NinjaWJ
I posted this topic to discuss the length of the GTA5 storyline? how long do you guys think it should be? i found the main story for GTA4 somewhat short (maybe i was spoiled with GTASA ). I think the game should have at least 100 missions to make every playthrough feel fresh but i think people might argue that a longer story would cause people to lose immersion

Slingaa
I don't really mind the length of the storyline, just so long as there are a lot of different paths to take so playthroughs are almost always new and fresh.
Akavari
I wouldn't mind having like 50 missions but have an assortment of protagonists to play as with their own storylines. Sort of like the impossible trinity but you'd get to choose one at the beginning instead of buying DLC packages.
Narcis_speed6
I don't mind how many, as long as it has action and drama in them, or any other details to make me keep playing.
GTA 360
I'd say about as long as the original GTA IV, TLAD and TBOGT added together, plus side missions and more decisions a bit like the money or revenge option in IV. Oh, and more missions like the last one in IV too.

Didn't IV have around 92 missions, which isn't far from 100. For me, I want alot of missions, but this is only because I keep feeling let down when the game ends and nothing has changed. They need alot of missions that actually lead to something.
Finn 7 five 11
More the merrier, but sometimes the story ends up far fetched, which i don't mind i like some over the top missions, but not too many, but too little means "kill this kill that" like in IV. Craploads of side missions would be awesome, maybe some more storyline races too.

I think the reason i thought SA felt longer was because you had to do the flight school missions and get gang turf before triggering a new set of missions

D- Ice
I'd be happy if it was the same length as GTA IV's storyline, ideally maybe a bit longer, up to one and a half the amount of missions. The problem with it though was that it was very indifferent - mission variability was non-existant past two or three different mission frameworks, where they just change the gangs you fight and locations. Also major revelations and story turning points were way too few and far between. The main story in IV can have easily all been very easily covered by one fifth of the missions they had, the rest they should have worked on with better twists, turns and revelations. TheTomster
They need to bring the SA concept back. Where you had to work your way around a map of 2 or more cities, and some land in between. SA was an impeccably good story, LS -> Country -> SF -> Desert -> LV -> Back to LS for redemption. It was a completely bonkers off the wall story, the way a GTA story should be. I've played through IV a few times now, and the first time was amazing, but now it feels boring because you basically just play a hit man through about 40 missions. I liked missions like Packie's first mission where you had to ambush the triad's meds coming into the city, and then steal their truck. There should be more missions like that, and not just "here's 5 grand, go shoot this guy, mission over".

ScotchMouth
As a typical GTA fan I would like a boat load. I think R* faces a challenge with the upcoming GTA. I think players and reviewers alike are noticing the repetition of the "Go here kill this guy evade cops". Not that i have a problem with those missions making up a large chunk of the game. I would like to see more variety. TBOGT was a step in the right direction. The pacing was good and the missions seemed balanced to me. I think we could throw in some missions where stealth is used and give it a bit of variety. I remember SA seeming like it took forever. But i will go out of my way to maximize my play time. Do a couple of missions and then seeking out side missions to accomplish right away.
xgtamontariox
I would personaly like to see around 85 missions which can compliment with intiguing side missions and activities to keep you going and hooked on still. Usually when I complete the main storyline and missions, there is not much left to do which makes me feel less interested and the game becomes somewhat dead. I definately agree that the storyline should be fairly long, balanced with a huge array of activities left to do again and again. San Andreas and TBOGT almost nailed that target perfectly. LeBronK23
After buying GTA: SA from the XBox Live marketplace thing, I decided to try and finish IV and SA during my downtime around the holidays. Made me realize how much funner SA was TBOGT was definitely a step in the right direction though. Edit: Oh yeah, and the last mission in SA is a lot better than the last mission of IV... NinjaWJ
i think they should add some RPG aspects to it like working with different factions to increase the playtime and give it more replay value
Long Haired Freaky Guy
TBOGT was definitely a step in the right direction though. I 2nd that one. The variety of missions was great, and the stuff they had you doing aswell...one minute you're stealing a train with a helicopter, next you're climbing up a long tower whilst killing cops and shooting down choppers. IMO, BoGT has the best missions out of any of the GTA games. Another point I'd like to make is that it's not Quantity but Quality am interested in. I hate the missions that involve driving to a location, shooting some men and then driving away to complete a mission. The thing is, they tried to improve on this in the IV-era, but when you had the guys chasing you in cars or whatever, it was so unrealistic. You could drive away from them completely, then suddenly they'd be transported to right behind you...was very noticeable in the DLC games, such as when leading the crew in L&D, or the Drug Wars in BoGT. I'd like the missions to be more packed, like missions that actually have consequences and stuff like that. I mean, you complete a mission and once the mission is complete, you are free to roam the city. Surely if there are that many criminals in the city, someone should be after you all the time? Official General
I think the number of missions in original GTA IV storyline were long enough. I believe there were around just over 90 storyline missions in GTA IV, which in my view is a good number. However, being a big GTA fan that I am, I would definitely like to see a bit more. I'd say a 100 main missions for the next GTA game would be great, just the right amount for very interesting and intriguing storyline. But my main problem with the GTA IV storyline missions was the repetitive nature of them, not the amount of them in numbers. GTA IV's 92 missions was good enough. I just wished that the missions were a bit more interesting and engaging. About halfway through the game, I just got fed up of those predominantly hitman-based missions. The next GTA games needs a much better variety of storyline missions that invlove other stuff to do than just hunting down and killing people - I accept that killing people is a staple aspect of GTA games, but GTA IV went a bit overboard, come on! I wanna see more stuff in the main storyline missions that invlove other kinds of crimes that require little or no violence, with more money-motivated reasons for them being committed. I also wanna see more side missions and activities that are fun and interesting and varied. Buying and owning/managing properties and businesses, drug-dealing, gang wars, gambling, robbing stores and small banks, burglaries, hijacking cargoes, smuggling and other things would add greatly to the replay value of the next GTA game if they were all implemented as side missions along with main missions. Side missions like these would also do a lot to provide a nice, fun distraction away from the main storyline for a small while if player feels like doing something else to occupy their spare time with. I'd also like to see more randomness in the next GTA game, just like the type we saw in Red Dead Redemption. For instance, someone might try to rob you in the street or in an alleyway, or set you up in a routine drug-deal that has gone bad. Or someone might just ask you for your help in a difficult situation, stuff like that. Edited December 31, 2010 by Official General
TheLostBiker
200 story, 300 side. I've had GTA IV for 5 days now. 100% completion on it, and EFLC. It was too quick.
Kwandilibro
Depends on the location. If it's one city, I'd say about the same as IV or less. If it's multiple cities and some countryside like SA, I'd say 125-150, providing they aren't pointless or repetitive.
