I used to be an avid fan of Smiths, but at this point I only listen to them to hear Johnny Marr play guitar. Morrissey as a person has deterred me from Smiths music, but it doesn't stop me from frequently listening to them. Nonetheless, a great track from Smiths.

I hear you buddy. Some bands, I really just listen to the music and don't care much for the people. I used to hate The Smiths because I associated them with a time/incident/people in my life at a certain time. But I grew out of that. It's still hard to listen to some tracks because it reminds me of a difficult time. However, I never idolized Morrissey other than his skill for singing and writing. I probably wouldn't get along with him in real life. Some of the things he says are a bit annoying. So, I never felt too pushed to really know more of him. And I like that. The man is still a bit of a mystery.

And I read Marr and Morrisey didn't even have a writing relationship like other duos. Often Marr would send Morrisey the tracks and he would just sing over them. Like it was a collaborative effort but not in same room collaboratory.

Marr on the other hand is a joy listen to. He's got great stories. And I Noel Gallagher has great stories about Marr lending him guitars for early Oasis gigs.

[1] I feel like I could say the same thing about the band Tom Tom Club. Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz, both previously members of Talking Heads up until the breakup in 88, have been harassing David Byrne for quite some time now. I love Tom Tom Club's music, just not the people behind it - mainly Frantz and Weymouth. If you want to read more about that, check this out:

[2] I think Morrissey's singing is good, as well as his songwriting. I have recently come to enjoy his singing once more, but I feel like Johnny Marr playing the guitar will always be my favourite part of the band. This applies for a lot of the bands I listen to. I do remember reading something about that around a year ago, it's sad really. It seems like a lot of 80s' bands had deficient relationships (e.g, Pixies, Talking Heads, Guns n' Roses, New Order, Smiths, etc....)  I listened to Marr sing a few songs live in recent years, and he's alright. As much as I love Johnny Marr, I feel like Morrissey was better than Marr in terms of singing.

He did alright here.

Spoiler

[3] Indeed, it is a thrill to listen to his stories. I actually never knew about the Oasis thing though, I don't listen to a lot of them. I also watched a few interviews, including this one recently:

That guy's like a local celebrity in the town I'm from; saw his iconic beret and shades at the town museum in a display case.

(I happened to have these shades in my pocket and donned them for this selfie upon stumbling across this exhibit).

Random.

I mean it.

My brothers went to that all boy's school. I knew better and went to a coed one across town.

I've also sang at the Fairfield Halls with my school too.

Lloyd Grossman's American, I think he's from the same part of America that voice actor who played that smart gremlin's from.
