Favourite 80's Tracks?

Recommended Posts

Arran B

I grew up in the 90s and 00s but 80s music was definitely the best decade for music. It was actually because of the GTA games that I have such a diverse taste in music now. I certainly reckon that V will feature an 80s station, and I'm telling you all now, I definitely reckon the song Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel will feature, dunno why. Just have a feeling..

Going to post my 5 all time favorite songs and they are all in the 80s. Love 80s music.

The Cure - Just Like Heaven, favorite song of all time

Joy Division - Love Will Tear us Apart, I like the BBC version music video

New Order - Dreams Never End, 3rd place

The Psychedelic Furs - Love My Way has anyone else posted the furs yet? I've only looked at pages 1-5 and 18 and 19.

The Cure - Lets Go To Bed, the cure again

Has anyone posted Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark? Good 80s band too. Also there is a lack of Depeche Mode, surprisingly.

This group was long forgotten but this song is unforgettable, to me.

Believe it or not, the singer is Ricky Gervais when he was in the pop group Seona Dancing back in 1983.

If it wasn't for me going to The Human League's XXXV tour, I wouldn't know any of the League's songs except from "Don't You Want Me Baby", "(Keep Feeling) Fascination" and "Love Action", the last two I know from GTA VC and VCS.

Well the 80's had some of the best Gothic Rock (well so did the 90's but the 80's is where it all started) so I have no real particular songs I like the most but these are just two that I really like.

Oh then there's the awesome classic Deathrock that came out of the 80's,

Don't even get me started on all the amazing Post-Punk, Batcave, Coldwave and Darkwave music that came out around this time.

I'll give ya guys a quick top 5. Not my favourite 5, just a quick pick top 5 deal.

YES from 1983.

U2 from '83

Petty from 1989

Tom Cochrane and Red Rider from 1980

John Mellencamp from '82.

Still, it bothers me that I left out so many great bands/singers from the 80s. Talking Heads, INXS, The Police, Billy Idol, April Wine, AC/DC, Def Leppard, Dire Straits, Don Henley, Gino Vannelli, Guns N' Roses, Men at Work, Michael Jackson, Rush, The Scorpions, The Clash, Van Halen, etc. Not to mention the 80s had to be the greatest decade for one hit wonders.

Video above is the Ramones performing "Pet Sematary" live at the MTV Studios back in 1989

and below is the music video from same year featuring scenes from the movie "Pet Sematary".

Song inspired by Stephen King's book and film of the same name.

My favorite song from the Ramones of the 80's.

Ramones Forever.

Funnily enough, at work tonight, my favourite U2 song (In a Little While - from the last '90s, posthumously dedicated to Joey Ramone since he was listening to the song on his deathbed) came on the radio just as a woman wearing a t-shirt with "HEY HO LET'S GO" emblazoned on walked in... Gotta love those seemingly insignificant, yet very appropriate, coincidences in life. colgate.gif

I would have to agree if I'm honest the best decade was indeed the 80's with regards to my genre preference. Although Sabbath really rocketed rock and metal into the mainstream during the 70's it was at the turn of the 80's that everything went global quite literally. Still without a doubt the best decade in general for music.

The 80's were (and still are) the best era for music. I love Rush, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Police, ZZ Top, Van Halen, and MUCH more.

Favourite 80's track...so many to choose from, must be the best decade for music ever.

Billie Jean - MJ

Sweet Child O' Mine - Guns N Roses

You Shook Me All Night Long - AC/DC

Born In The USA - Bruce Springsteen

Jump - Van Halen

Fast Car - Tracy Chapman

Livin On A Prayer - Bon Jovi

Just some of the bunch but I could go on all night.

Stefche beat me to it with Duran Duran and Phil Collins, both are definitely my favourite artists from that era, so I'll go for a couple of other songs.

Yes, this is one of the cheesiest songs ever, but it's also a fine example of how to achieve longevity in the music industry. Even now, nearly 20 years after its release, it's still a very well known songs, still listened to by many, and still bloody good. I take my hat off to Mr. Richie.

And then there's this, a love song by a bunch of goths. When I first started listening to these guys, they felt as though they'd come from the future. That was in the 90's. I later learned that this was simply because their sound was so unique and finely tuned that they essentially didn't belong to the sound of an era, it was all their own, and that forever impressed the balls off me.
