I have new problem... Yesterday I was playing and everything was great

But when I was starting game I see "GTA IV has stopped working" but it was starting anyway.

Today It's starting but after 15 sec it's dissapering sad.gif

I really wanted this mod but when it was installed and done i clicked on the shortcut, clicked play, logged in to RGSC then i got

GTA IV FATAL ERROR: VDS20

GTA IV FATAL ERROR: Invalid resource detected-please re-install the game

cryani.gif  cryani.gif  cryani.gif  cryani.gif  cryani.gif  cryani.gif  cryani.gif  cryani.gif

did anyone else get this issue? dontgetit.gif

I had this issue but then I reinstalled IVSA with Xliveless, now it just gets to the menu screen and crashes instead. I also used the torrent version of the setup by the way. Can anybody help?

I am using the following:

Steam version of GTA IV (1.0.7.0)

Vehicles

EPM

Vegetation pack

No ENB settings

Xliveless

ScriptHook

Scripts

Simple native trainer

no CJ, weapons or sounds

EDIT: Also I actually get the "GTA IV has stopped working" message just as the game is launching... then it shuts down by the time it takes to reach the menu screen

I was having this problem but yesterday I downgraded my GTAIV to 1.0.4.0 and now it works. Occasionally the problem returns but deleting my save folder (Documents/Rockstar Games/GTAIV) seems to fix it.

The game only seems to crash when it launches WITHOUT using my native resolution (1920x1080) and deleting my savegames folder seems to set my resolution back to native.

Hmm, well, I should've been more "thorough" in my question because the one post you read actually doesn't have the "entire" question I need answered or as I'd posted a few pages back.

Let me dissect what you're saying here. My comments in green, mate, because I don't think you understand what I'm saying.

]I developed the installer. And yes, it is necessary.

Does it create any registry entries? Alter any registry entries? Alter any other programs already installed or add any programs to the windows installation (other than the mod itself)?

Furthermore, there is no way the installer can screw up those 6 folders. Probably you did something wrong and/or you did not use the installer as intended.

Ah? No. I didn't. I've put out four sets of ENB settings and multiple vids and thousands of screenshots in the last five months almost without hiccup however, after this installer got through with my WindowsXP installation (more accurately after uninstalling IV:SA via the uninstaller in Add/Remove Programs), I can't run GTA IV after a) Repairing the IV installation (Automated by the stock IV installer), b) Removing and reinstalling completely and re-patching to 1030. Not even stock GTA IV will run now, let alone my modded installations.

My "six" folders are only used one at a time. I copy the contents of one folder (after deleting all files in Program Files) to the program files folder. However, using six different copies of the Program Files folder, one at a time to ensure "one" or "two" of the folders didn't "mysteriously" become non-functional, none of them work which means the problem is now either a) Windows Registry related b) Supporting program i.e.: .NetFramework, Visual C++ etc. related.

The installers copies an existing GTA folder and installs itself to that copy. The original GTA installation is untouched.

Yes, and on a perfect day that works however after removing the IV:SA installation by using the IV:SA uninstaller GTA IV is not able to run AT ALL. That's not "something I did," - that's something the IV:SA installer did.

Now, for you, I spend at least a month scripting and making everything work (at least at our end).

I understand, and I appreciate it. I do. Are you sure your installer process didn't pickup another software install and reflect the changes from the testbed that was used to create the installer?

I don't want a new computer or you to reinstall my IV for me. I want you to know that the IV:SA installer f*cked my GTA IV installer and perhaps you should revisit the install routine to make sure it's working properly. Get an installer routine watcher to check if there is anything going into the registry or messing with other programs.

===

Your installer puts registry entries or DLL registrations in to match Patch 1040 or 1004. I could not use patches 1020 or 1030 ONLY 1040. You should be more careful next time you create an install routine.

It doesn't. It only installs different files based on patch version. There are members that are using 1030 and have it working.

There are no registry entries created during the installation program, except if you install .NET Framework with it, but that's not the mod.

Only when you install the mod on EFLC, the launcher edits a registry entry to make the mod work, but restores it afterwards.

I wouldn't know how those folders wouldn't work anymore. The installer makes no edits to any other folder than the selected installation folder and the %temp% folder, so I'm almost 100% sure it isn't the installer's fault.

When uninstalling, it just uninstall the files it installed. If answered with "Yes" on the question "Remove the folder" asked during the installation, it just completely removes the folder where the mod was installed in. No other things are touched.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder\Start Menu2\Programs\GTA IV San Andreas][HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{9E9AFF8B-C052-44F2-88B4-726F1F6A24B3}]

Some questions;

- Please define how your GTA IV are "not working". When do they crash, etc.

- Did the installer install .NET Framework?

GTA IV is not working. Period. My EFLC disc has never been inserted in the computer and those registry entries are there. Read below for more info re: registry entries. It doesn't even load the splash or...anything. Click the shortcut to LaunchGTAIV.exe and nothing at all. Two installations were known working five minutes before using the IV:SA Installer. The other four, were copies of the primary two in different states of change / additional IMG / ENB settings. Going right to the folder to launch LaunchGTAIV.exe doesn't work.

I've been trying different combinations of Scripthook.dll, scripthookdotnet.asi and Xlive.dll (xliveless) for two days now after IV:SA uninstall / GTA IV repair / Complete Reinstall with all the folders that were working and the only thing that worked (briefly) was a) using the razor crack b) removing xliveless. c) Patching to 1040. That doesn't even work now with a change back to L3EVO's sets.

What's more, after the uninstall yesterday of IV:SA, which led me to the comments I made above about the installer making registry entries, there was a key that altered the LaunchGTAIV.exe location to the IV:SA folder in Program Files. Uninstalling IV:SA did not bring that back. Nor is the key there anymore at all...even while IV:SA is installed/uninstalled again. I should have got a screenshot of it, I knew I'd need it. If for nothing else to point out registry entries are there and to restore the key manually.

I suspect you'll find more of this bullsh*t with most of the other people here when they start uninstalling. If you're scripting an installer, perhaps you should have just scripted a batch file if registry entries "are not made," which, albeit benign in the example above I proved your statement wrong, I can tell you that installer clearly f*cked my registry re: GTA IV on the first install. I did not choose the .Net option because I have all the .Net packages installed seperately to 4.0.

The only thing that pisses me off to point of profanity is when people deny reality when it's right in their faces. I knew this would happen which is why I asked in the first place but nobody can answer a question clearly so I took a chance. What a waste of time.

I'm done with this _____ thread and this bullsh*t.

Click on "Quick connect" go to my server: 94.232.79.197:9999

How to load a server, you'll fall through it the earth to get rid of the console or F6, and enter in the field is "/ v 113" and you get to spawn a helicopter to fly from the ground.

You can quietly enjoy the game on the internet on my server))

Please go here and then I'm bored

This is bullsh*t, waste of time.

I want to congratulate to team which made this possible, and put so much effort into this, but IV sucked, sucks and will suck ass for modding. I'm trying 3 days already and I can't get it work.

I give up.

Happy playing to all those who managed to make this beautiful mod work on this sh*t-ass game.

You have a pole stuck in your a$$ or something?

The second key is a default key that is made to get the product displayed in the Control Panel. These are automated by InstallShield. I can disable this, but then no one can easily remove the mod.

The first key is not made by the setup, but by Windows to order the Start Menu.

There are no registry entries I've personally configured in the InstallShield project to be created.

The downloader does not alter the registry.

The launcher does, in one case: if EFLC is detected; it changes the installation directory to the folder where the mod is installed, because EFLC loads all files from that folder specified in the registry. But when EFLC is closed, this entry gets restored.

If you think you can make a better install system and spend time on it to get it working, feel free to do so, so I can enjoy my spare time.
