genuf
Hey guys. It's been 2 years from release. I've updated my hardware thrice to get this game running fine without any success. This is my actual system: GA-EP45-UD3L | C2Quad© Q9550 2.83Ghz | 2x2GB GSkill DDR800 | XFX AMD HD6870 | Thermaltake 550W W0134RU | LCD 23' Samsung 2333SW | WINDOWS 7 64bits I've tried all patches. I'm running the latest drivers, and i cant get the game running with default settings at a stable framerate without any kind of stutter (which varies and no commandline seems to fix it). Based on other users i should be able to run this game at high settings except shadows and... let's say 50-50 details / draw distance with night shadows on medium. i'm i right? I don't believe it. Any suggestions would be apreciated. I've tried many fresh installs of win 7 64bits, defrag, contig, memrestrict, CPU Oc to 3.4GHZ with no avails. All i'm asking is to get a minimum framerate of 25. Cheers. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/465344-i-think-this-aint-right/ Share on other sites
mkey82
I think at some point you'll just have to face facts and accept that GTAIV will not run well on some systems. Is there some part on your PC you haven't changed during these upgrades? genuf
Ram is the only thing a haven't changed. But it should be enough for the game. If anyone have any idea how to get the game playable i'll appreciate. Thanks, anyway Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/465344-i-think-this-aint-right/#findComment-1060252393 Share on other sites
DocMenach
To be honest I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to get decent framerates with that system. I get constant goods framerates with draw/detail distance at 80/80 and most settings at high. I've got a slightly less powerful graphics card than you (6850), but a more powerful CPU (core i5 760). I know you said you have the most recent video card drivers, but were you aware than new Radeon Drivers (10.12) were released 6 days ago? The HD6xxx was not 'officially' supported until this release, and I noticed an improvement after installing them. Also, the one piece of info you left out was what resolution you are trying to run it at. genuf
Hey thanks for the responses. Yeah, i'm aware of the new Catalyst 10.12, which i've installed twice and i think it's crap. I've no performance gain in GTA IV, plus i'm having various problems with vsync in other games. As i've a 23' monitor, i run it at 1920x1080. But it shouldn't be a problem for a Q9550. I've tried several fresh installs of win 7, although they all were 64bit, and maybe i should try 32bit, but that doesn't make any sense, well, any of this does. I really don't know what to do. Asus Rampage Formula | Xeon X3350 2.66GHz | 2x2GB KHX DDR2 800 | ATi Radeon HD5850 | Antec Quattro 850w | LCD 24" Samsung | Windows Vista 64bits w/SP2 | Creative X-Fi >The motherboard runs on a Intel X48 chipset >The desktop version of that Xeon CPU will be a Q9450 >Nothing was overclocked, all ran at their stock speeds Running GTA IV with patch 1.0.7.0 and using Catalyst 10.10 (non-hotfix) with the following game settings -Video mode: 1920x1200 (60Hz) -Aspect ratio: 16:10<----If you know your monitor's aspect ratio, specify it rather than setting to Auto -Texture quality: High -Refection resolutions: High -Water Quality: High -Shadow Quality: High -Night Shadows: High -Texture Filter Quality: Anisotropic x16 -View Distance, Detail Distance, and Vehicle Density all are set at 50% -Definition: On -Vsync: Off The game runs with at a average of 46FPS. Just formatted my system so I haven't got time to test it out with the latest Catalyst drivers Your CPU is faster, got a better graphic card (even though it's not high-end) and your running at a lower resolution. Your FPS should be higher than what I've got. Try out the Catalyst 10.12 hotfix or go back to a older version of their drivers to see if that helps. mkey82
Yes, it's just that fact. It would be like saying- "whatever I do, I can't hit 200MPH on the expressway, is it only the fact I'm trying to do it in a Fiat Punto?"
