GoldenEye 007

Recommended Posts

I completely forgot they were coming out with a Wii version. Nothing will ever beat the game on N64 though. I used to play that religiously. Me and friends would sit in my room playing split screen all day.

Good times!

I am in 2 minds if you get the Kinext for my 360 or just get a wii. The wii is 95% because of goldeneye. one of if not the best ever game made for consoles IMO.

As far as multiplayer went then this game had is sewn up. Loved it.

I've never played this game, but I saw this and thought maybe someone would be interested:

http://www.pcgamer.com/2010/12/14/goldeneye-source-released/

It's basically a mod that adds the multiplayer aspect of Goldeneye to the Source engine. Worth a look if you're a fan, I'd say.

I don't mean to come off as a console bashing queer, but Kinetic is seriously a waste of money.

I mean, I love my 360, but anyone who didn't see that as an obvious ploy at aiming for the casual market is blind.

Just get the Wii. It has solid titles on it. It isn't just motion sensing, which is what Kinetic is all about

This remaster has been a looooooooong time coming, and yet they've still f*cked it up somehow for reasons unknown.

It was made in the 360 days, intended to release on XBLA, and at the last minute after it was done Nintendo stopped it. Fast forward to about last year and Nintendo wanted some Rare stuff on their Nintendo sub service and an agreement was made that finally allowed it to release on Xbox, and finally after many leaks it's finally here.

...but the Switch and Xbox versions are, for reasons unknown, different. The Switch version will include online multiplayer it seems but the Xbox version does not.

Edit: So the versions are the same, but this is not the remake that was made years ago and has been sitting on a shelf for years. The reason the Switch version has online is they're able to do some funky stuff through the NSO platform to do it. It seems Nintendo are still blocking the remake sadly.

Hmm, idk how i feel about this. It can never capture the essence of the orignal n64 version, so why remake? I dont remember the last good james bond game. Okay, actually I do and it was on the ps2 (forget which one).

Are you thinking NightFire? It was decent and close...

I will try out the Switch Version. Honestly, didn't think it would ever happen. So much red tape and what not to get this done.

Dont know if it was agent under fire or nightfire. The covers look too similar honestly, but I remember there were car levels if thats any indicator

As much as I loved this game as a kid, I have some doubts about it today. Controls have kinda aged badly and it's really stiff compared to other FPS games. I know it took FPS on console to a different directino at the time (impressive given the devs had no expereince with FPS games. GoldenEye wwas originally planned to be some sort of Rail shooter) but it really shows its age. I'm sure a lot will have som enice nostalgia, but on 00 Agent the difficulty can ramp up with enemies' fast reaction and love for throwing grenades (Aztec) at th emost inopportune of times and no checkpoints.

As for multiplayer, I can just see the mess. We have 3 characters that people will race to pick, in order: Oddjob, Siberian SPecial Forces and Moonraker Elite (Female). First one's obvious; too damn short, second one often blends into some stages, and third one is short, but has bright yellow clothing.

On a side note, I loved messing with friends by hiding in th etoilet vents of Facility. They didn't know hwo to get up there unless you'd respawn there.

And I hoep they make the respawns on random location and not in a set order like it was on the N64. See, on some stages it was almost impossible to come back from gettin gkilled as a skilled player with enough map knowledge would know the EXACT order of respawning and spawn camp you.

EDIT: If enemies figure out how to shoot over railings, some stages will become damn near impossible. Especially Cradle.

It's going to be interesting with it running at 4 times the fps it originally shipped at 12-15fps. I think that will be enough to make it feel alot fresher and there's no way they would ship it with the same controls it had back then certainly expecting modern fps controls.

Still sad the remake never saw the light of day in the end, online multiplayer would've been nice.

It's nice to finally see the game make its way to Xbox in some form though cause yea, it's taken literally over a decade for it to finally happen lol.

I want a legit VR version to be made.

I'll probably check out the switch version this weekend.

This isn't really a remake, it's the OG version. The Switch version even has some pretty standard emulation issues (missing sounds). They've had a little bit of work done to make the controls work, game runs at a higher resolution as well, but yea, this is basically the OG game.

The remake was coming to 360 over a decade ago but when it was just about ready Nintendo blocked it. They only now greenlit it for release cause they wanted it on NSO, but obviously the deal was that it'd be the OG version and not the remake.

Yeah this is 99.9% the original. Can't tell if anything graphically they have altered. The only difference is now you have achievements and can use your Xbox controller which is big. Just being able to strafe normally and use the aim button to just shoot like a normal fps is a huge improvement. It always makes me wonder how many older games from 25 years ago would be still relevant today if they just had better control schemes. So far I am surprised how modern this game feels now with the updated control setup with a proper controller and not that POS N64 joke controller. Almost nothing beat Goldeneye for FPS games for a long time, it had more death animations than your latest COD game, guns all sounded great, the impact noises of bullets hitting people was a huge part of making it feeling satisfying. Not much felt as good as this until Rainbow Six Vegas. Even today this game feels amazing.

The character models are hilarious!  😄

I tried the first bit of the game. It's pretty fun. I only played split-screen multiplayer of it back in the day at a friends house. But it's surprisingly still fun.

I also remember GoldenEye for the N64 having a death animation in which the enemy staggers against a wall and slumps down sitting against it. It's a unique and conditional death animation that always caught me eye. Too bad enemies despawn really fast after dying. But in Perfect Dark they'd remain for a significantly longer time.

And some enemy idle animations can be quite fun. Heck, I swear that in some rare cases they can sneeze, with a sneezing sound!

People will hate me for this, but I think the N64 controller is the best controller ever made. The C buttons to look up, down, and strafe were amazing, as well as holding R to manual aim. It was just so accurate. I can't for the life of me play a FPS with dual analog.

Kind of pointless now anyway, as I've switched to PC like 20 years ago, and only use keyboard and mouse, with a few exceptions. Hope they put Goldeneye (and Perfect Dark please!!!) on Steam at some point.
