Yes, thanks for the replies.

And as stated in PMs i sent , please forgive about Vice IV and is there any way i can make up for giving these false assumptions back than? I can help if you say so....

You shouldn't take it too seriously and won't happen again.

And from here, let's just stop spamming and hating on each other's projects/work, can't achieve anything by doing so

I haven't asked this question in a while and seeing as it's been a few months I was looking to see if the following has changed. I remember RussianCJ telling me a while ago that we wouldn't have the option to choose between the Vice City files and the original IV cars/weapons/peds etc in the installer because it would be incompatible with your data files). However, in GTA IV: San Andreas you are able to choose which features you want to install and which you don't. So if they've done it, I figure that surely it must be possible for Vice City Rage as well. Has this changed at all? I'm just coming from the point of view of those who only want the map from Vice City, but everything else to be the same as GTA IV. If you aren't able to select what you want from Vice City Rage in the installer (timecyc, cars, weapons, radio etc), will we be able to add the originals back in manually?

You should but one thing I would do if I wanted the original stuff but with Vice City's map is at least have vehicles retextured so there Vice City instead of Liberty City.

You should but one thing I would do if I wanted the original stuff but with Vice City's map is at least have vehicles retextured so there Vice City instead of Liberty City.

The reason I have these specific requirements/wishes is because eventually I want to make a legitimate stunt video using this map mod. And I'd love it if stunts landed in the Vice City map could integrate into legitimate GTA IV stunt videos (unmodded/no cheats) with the original GTA IV map, but if I changed anything else besides the map then I couldn't, I would be 'cheating'. The main requirement of making legitimate stunt videos is that everything related to the map and vehicles and the player model must be exactly the same as the original game. This means no handling modifications, no collision changes, no model changes; change any of these things and you change the way the vehicles handle and the physics behave, making your stunts illegitimate/cheated. On the other hand custom maps are allowed, because all you're doing is giving yourself a new map to stunt in, you aren't changing the way the game fundamentally plays (unlike you are when modifying handling/player models etc). Visual changes such as timecyc/texture modifications are also okay, because they don't change the way GTA IV handles when stunting. A good rule of thumb is that if something is impossible on an unmodded version of the original console game, then you can't make it possible on PC through the use of modifications, otherwise you're cheating (of course, custom maps are exempt from this rule). You can see the type of stunts I mean if you click on my YouTube channel link in my signature, every one of the stunts in those videos has been landed without any modifications to the handling or physics, making them completely legitimate.

So effectively as a stunter the only thing I want is the new map, the new paths and the new scripts. All of these changes are necessary for a fully functioning map of Vice City, but they don't change the way the game plays when stunting. This way I could still use the original vehicles with their original handling, and do parkour stunts/rocket boosts on foot without having player models/physics modifcations/animations changing the way the game handles. Hopefully you can see where I'm coming from here. I'm not asking for the Vice City Rage team to change their installer to specifically cater for stunters, I'm saying that if you give people the options to take and leave what they want from the mod, then everyone can play the game specifically catered to their own needs. This makes everyone happy smile.gif

The problem of the people is that they think they are smarter than me... (It's a quote)

Let me explain you. Our modification will have online player statistics. All the original files, modifying of which can destroy the balance between players, will be reserved by launcher (models, configuration files, scripts and etc). It means, that modders won't be able to modify content (at least without our permission). But different add-ons and patches from Rage Team will be able to modify it. Also we want to make a single modification configuration for all the players (one version of the game, one available type of content and so on) to make it fully workable and not to have problems with half of the patches and mod configurations.

Fair enough, I really wish you would let people keep what they want though. You could do that but disable online stats for those players so no conflicts are created smile.gif

Just replace the original files, for vehicles:

vehicles.img - /pc/models/cdimages

handling.dat - /common/data

vehicles.ide - /common/data

carcols.dat - /common/data

vehoff.cvs - /common/data

Thanks, I've got a feeling I may need to know this information tounge.gif

There will be still DAT files, that will be adapted for new vehicles. These DAT files will be connected with map files (vehicle spawning, for example). We don't want to rebuild half of the mod for it.

And one more thing. Don't try to change our development plans. All of them are accepted by the whole team, and changes of these plans are very difficult to do.

There are some problems with ped bump linking in episodes. We are working on it.

Now I'm not exactly an expert, but I did just spend most of my afternoon reading this whole topic and everything... Whenever I saw RussianCJ about to say something that didn't include a screenshot, I cringed. The modification looks excellent, but that's all I like about this: the art. RussianCJ and the VCR team, good work, but bad attitude. I'll definitely be downloading this when I get IV on PC. But respecting you guys? No. And you don't care, and I don't either. Just eating my burger and wanted to say my say, don't even mind me, 'cause you won't anyway. Keep trudging along guys, good work!

(Yes, I'm confusing)

I don't understand, what do you call a bad attitude on our part. All our bad attitude to some users on this forum can be explained. We are doing everything possible to finish our work and not to screw up a first impression on our modification. It explains, why do we keep some secrets about the modification inside the team, why hadn't we released a beta yet and why don't we pay attention to some user's ideas and proposals.

No offense intended, just realize that. I'm behind your modification all the way, but it looks like you guys have some tools you guys aren't sharing, which is kind of selfish. Let me put it this way, I was a member back here in 2006 and 2007, back when modding was a team-effort and everybody worked together (at least, I recall it being so) at getting San Andreas moddable. Imagine my shock when I came back after four years and found that this was no longer the case, and the number of selfish people on these forums had increased drastically. Everybody is competing against each other, it seems, and keeping things secret. It's like some bad joke. So I'm not bad-mouthing this modifcation, nor the team, I mean you guys did a really good job on this, and I love it. But isn't modding a team effort? Isn't it all about what you AND your audience thinks is good? If people have proposals, at least hear them out. If they come up with something insane, then by all means don't incorporate it! If people want to improve their own total conversions for IV, and IF you guys have the tools, then why not share them? Nobody is competing with you, but you guys seem to be competing with everybody.

Face it, you're not a game development company like Rockstar, Activision, etc.

So why not make this a community project? I don't mean make everything public, but at least listen to some things people say, because so far as I noticed, most of the time you said something along the lines of, "No, we're going to do it our way."

I know it's your project, and you're proud of it like a father is proud of his outstanding son, or a baseball coach is proud of his state-winning team, but the team still has spectators, and if they're all snobs, then the spectators are going to lose interest.

[Don't know if that metaphor was clear, I guess not, I'm multi-tasking here] - Here's my point:

Create the mod to suit your tastes, but don't do it to the disadvantage or distaste of others, or there would be no point on showcasing it here! And as for the tools, I have no idea if you have any advanced tools, so I'm not saying you do, but if this is the case, why not share them?

EDIT: And I'm not saying this out of my own interests, I don't own IV or EFLC on PC, and don't think I will for some time, and even then I doubt I'll be modding them. I'm just interested, and had something to say, which I did.

So why not make this a community project?

Because community has very different tastes. Rage Team is an independent team. And Vice City Rage is an independent project. Our development politics is single and also independent. We are trying to work like a team, not like a community. And in our opinion it's the correct way of development. If you have another opinion, then it's your choice. And in this case we really don't care about it. We can't cater to the entire community.

And that's why IV:San Andreas is bound to be much more successful than this. People actually feel like they are important, like they play a part. But anyway, I'm out. I said what I want to say, and I still like your mod, and will download it when it is finally done one day. Cheers guys, and good luck, doubt you'll see me here in this thread again unless I hear there's a BETA release.

Don't you think that for the enormous amount of work and effort that had already been put into Vice City Rage, the Rage Team has deserved the right to develop and finish the project their way?

To be honest, the models, the engine, and everything else is made by a game developer. They are just f*cking around with some models and textures, made by other people. icon14.gif

They are not making a new game, for your information.
