chronic lumbago
Intel HD graphics is the biggest problem. My laptop has a little worse specs than yours and when I tried to run Vegas with low spec mods, it still stuttered a lot. It was unplayable. It manages to run Oblivion on lowest specs smoothly though. Also, I watched a Fallout 3 video how he made it run on a low end laptop with Intel HD. Didn't try it yet as I rather stick to my console. Edward Nashton
Question for any of you savvy laptop gamers out there, I normally play on my desktop PC, so I'm not too familiar on how laptop hardware handles video games. My laptop specs are intel HD 620 graphics, i5 7200u, 12gb RAM - I'm wondering if this can run original Skyrim worth a damn, hell, or if it can run Special Edition (not holding my breath, though). I can't seem to get a straight answer from anywhere else. Okay, so I've got some interesting news, I tested OG Skyrim on my laptop (without the HD texture pack) and it ran pretty damn smooth - low settings, 1280x720, 60 fps with the occasional dip to 45 fps. Played for about 2 hours without any issues, I think I might be able bump a few settings up a bit higher and still get a decent frame rate. So if anyone out there has a laptop with similar specs to mine, you could definitely play Skyrim on it. And to think, I was considering buying a Switch in order to make down time at work a bit more bearable.

My laptop automatically sets the game for High Settings, and my laptop is much - MUCH - weaker than yours. nVidia GeForce 860 (I think?) Intel Core i3, 4GB RAM I believe. Sh*ttier than yours, and can run the game with multiple high-quality (usually 4K weapons & armor, 2K or 4K/2K Mix everything else) with little to no stutter + mid/low-level ENBs. Only spot where I lag like mad is in Whiterun. I don't know how good your Graphics Card is (which is the selling point), but everything else roasts my laptop. Pat
I would suggest that anyone interested in Survival mode opt into the CC beta currently available on the PC version, because apparently for the next week it's free to download and keep forever and after that it's going to cost a whopping 800 credits. $8 for the equivalent of Fallout 4's free Survival update, as well as the pre-existing Frostfall mod for Skyrim which was apparently designed by the same person that made the paid version, i.e. Chesko. Which brings up the question, didn't Bethesda say that you can't submit mods you've already created to the CC? Because that seems to be exactly what Chesko is doing, but oh we can sell it for $8 to our loyal customers so who gives a sh*t about what we said before, just pay us already. chronic lumbago
From what I understood, it will be only free for one week? Meaning you can play it for one week but then need to pay, like a trial? They weren't specific. Either way, it's like Frostfall for PS4. I'm not sure if I can miss that one, even if I have to pay for it. Damnit skyrim, I really don't have time to come back. If it's free then I'll probably drop my new fallout playthrough completely
Pat
Based on what I've heard, if you download it while it's free you keep it forever, but I'm not sure you can get it for free on the console versions. It sounds like you have to opt into the currently running beta to get it, and as far as I know, the Xbone and PS4 versions don't run betas. I'm wondering what's going to happen to Frostfall; I've been seeing a lot of people say Chesko jumped on the paid mod bandwagon immediately when Bethesda first attempted it on Steam, so I kind of expect him to stop all development of Frostfall and I wouldn't be surprised if he just took it down entirely and told people to buy the paid version. It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense considering the fact that he's already been paid, but with the current tension between people that support and don't support the CC I could see someone like him doing it just out of spite. chronic lumbago
I hope it's free to get and keep forever in the first week. It sounds the same to me. I'm already planning my survival character. I'm not sure if I will finally go with a Beast race. I have never gotten far with my beast characters. I'm out of ideas. chronic lumbago
Speaking of discoveres, I actually found out something new in skyrim - after 1000 hours I honestly thought I've seen everything the game has to offer. Seen all the well-hidden quests, spend hundreds of hours with most races, seen every dungeon, seen tiniest details, EVERYTHING. And yet, here I am. Right at the beginning of the game, when you go with Ralof, if you don't pick up the key from the imperials, Ralof actually picks up the key and opens the game himself. It was jawdropping. Mister Pink
amazing Just a friendly reminder not to post one-word posts. It can be considered spam. Thanks. @Fashion: That's great. I have no idea what/who you are actually referring to in the game but I don't even want to know. Skyrim has become my favourite game of the last 5 years. Although I'll probably never play 1000 hours (who knows), I want to be surprised like you eventually. On my current save I think I've around 168 hours. That's not a huge amount compared to others but it is 7 days of my life in a fictional world! It's still nearly 2 watchings of The Sopranos which is 6 seasons and 1 hour episodes. Seriously though, I was wondering what I would find as a I went a long. I'm not looking at lists of available quests or anything. I'm just organically stumbling upon quests and still enjoying the game. I must be a slow Skyrim player because I notice some people with more quests done with much higher Gamerscore and locations discovered, in half of my time. I wonder if it's because I just spend so much time looting, hoarding, buying and selling or what. Also, is there a standing stone thing that will help me level up faster? chronic lumbago 1 🅵🅴🅽🅸🆇 🅵🆄🅽🅺 🅵🅸🆅🅴
chronic lumbago
The key thing I discovered is nothing major it was an intended pun. I was simply amazed I actually found something new in this game after so many hours, especially right in the beginning. Just keep playing the way you've playing, exactly what I did. The only thing I remember looking up was locations of these thieves guild stones. I stumbled across many hidden locations and dungeon quests on my own, many around the borders of Skyrim itself or hard to reach locations. Many dungeons, caves and crypts includr quests once you've entered them within Skyrim itself. I didn't explore every single location on my first playthrough and came across many great surprises in dungeons I've skipped on my previous runs. Falkreach, the area between Winterhold and Windhelm, northwest Soltitude and many more all have a huge amount of dungeons. I also have to say, I was and am still playing the game in a slow pace. Been playing almost 6 years now and Skyrim always pulled me back in. I had 250 hours on my first character and that alone took me almost half a year. With the Special Edition, I mainly focus on having fun with the mods, mainly to help me create even deeper and unique characters. New companions, new houses, enemy spawns and much more. I did one playthrough so far with about 80-100 hours and didn't even touch the main quest. Kinda RPed a bit, made a badass mercenary orc who posessed avatar-inspired elemental powers from Magic Evolved (water, fire, earth, wind). Rendspire house mod adds a huge estate with many new followers so I kinda RPed that it's a new guild. As I progressed, I learned new elemental skills and made my way through the ranks. I know this sounds f*cking silly, but I loved that character. I did the MQ twice so far lol. I just focus on the guilds or my own adventures and call it a playthrough after 100 hours or so. The first three standing stones you come across (Mage, thief, warror) let you level up faster. But there's also the Lover's stone, which makes ALL skills lever up faster, but not as fast as the individual class stones. Mister Pink
Ah.. I must re-read your original post. Read it on my phone quickly. That's cool. You've put so much time in to the game. I think this is my main run-through. Because before when I originally played it, RPG's were new to me and I'm a total idiot when it comes to games some times. There was so much I didn't know about back then that one may say I was "doing it all wrong." So with the SE edition I thought I'd playthrough it. I knew there was massive things I didn't complete like the main quest or siding with Imperials/Stormcloaks. I never crafted armour or anything back in when I first played it. I really just loved the world but took a very casual approach to the game. I didn't realize I would get so stuck in to the SE edition. I thought after 50hrs you just kind of see most that there is to see but the game keeps on giving. I haven't even touched mods. Not that I don't want to try them but I think you're in a good position. You've practically seen it all. Now mods can just be a bit of fun. I forgot about the stones at the start. Think I remember getting the Lovers Stone in an old save too. I think I'll go for the Lover's stone. I think I even remember where it is, the general location. But yeah I've got my warrior skills where I need them but want to start leveling up other skills. In Lakeview Manor, I have a chest just for a mage. I play as a two-handed warrior but I thought if I ever decide to play as mage, rather than make a new save, I'll just start focusing on magic. So any rare mage's outfits, staffs, scrolls and potions are all kept in a chest in the house. Any magic item or rare weapon I've been storing. I'm a terrible hoarder of these things. In fact I get more of a sense of empire building from Skyrim that I did with any GTA's except maybe SA. - Multiple properties, buy/sell economy, armour and weapons collection etc. So good. That's half of the fun for me. chronic lumbago 1 🅵🅴🅽🅸🆇 🅵🆄🅽🅺 🅵🅸🆅🅴
chronic lumbago
Good to hear you're having fun. That's exactly what makes Skyrim so good: you can play the game exactly how you want. There's just no right or wrong in this game.I also make sure most of my characters have some sort of personal collection: daedric artifafts, bones, skulls, scrolls, books. Oh and drawven artifacts. I had a Telvanni dunmer character once who was obsessed with anything dwemer.Since my next character is gonna be a Survial hunter, I will mod myself a small cabin somewhere in the woods, collect pelts and catch fishes more often.I personally don't like to have a main character, a jack of all trades. I really love planning my characters a bit more and focus them on specific tasks, quirks, skills and quests. That way you also get to play as most of the different races, each with a unique playstyle. My first playthrough of course wasn't like this but once you put a few hundred hours in it, you see potential in making more unique characters. So far Skyrim has been 6 years of replayability to me. Longest game I've ever played. I thought it was finally over a while back but now with the PS4 mods, potential for more unique characters has grown. Did one playthrough on the special edition so far but dropped it for a while because of other games.Yet, just when I thought I was out, Skyrim pulls me back in... .................. Guys, make sure to download the Survival Mode creation while it's free!! Sorry for the double post but nobody seems to be talking about Survial or the new CC content so..I like Survival so far. I noticed that you need A LOT of food if it's uncooked so you might as well not even bother eating raw food. There are some very cool details included. Raw meat can make you sick, vamps and werewolves have a higher cold resistance, vampires can feed to restore their hunger, argonians are immune to sickness and the khajiit can eat raw meat without getting sick. Also, the CC release content is definetly a step up from Fallout 4. Gear actually requires you to follow a quest. Most are very short and dissapointing though. No new notes, no new dungeons, no story at all.The exception is the new Sheogorath staff. It has a backstory, an okay quest and it requires you to craft the weapon.Arcane arrows is incredible. The new arrow types and arrow quivers are simply gorgeus. For 150 credits, it's definetly worth it. 6 new arrow types, even a telekenisis one but haven't got it yet.I also couldn't resist getting the Ruins Edge bow. Yes, it's overpriced. 400 f*cking credits. But damn, that bow is absolutely beautiful. It's really something else. The model is an A+. Even the eye has its own animation. It moves, it blinks and just feels so badass. On inpact it causes a randomized effect on the enemy.Btw: don't bother with the zombie mod. It's sh*t from what I've heard and I suspect it will be discounted/free for halloween. Divide pack gives you two armor sets, two new weapons and a shield. I haven't bought that one yet as I'm not playing a character that uses a lot of armor. It looks pretty good though. You're gonna pick up the gear from a random bandit, with zero explanation why it's suddenly in Skyrim, why the bandit has it and not even a short lore letter explaining the armor. It's bare bones. Don't expect anything more than the armor sets and weapons. Personally got Ruins Edge, the new staff and arcane archery. I'm very happy with those. The only thing you need to do is Sign Up, but that's free. You don't even need to download the Nexus Mod Manager (MNN), if you know how modding Skyrim works you won't need any tools, aside from your brain and paying attention to your Mod Load Order. Headsup: Don't buy the new version yet, if you're gonna delve in the world of modding. SKSSE (Skyrim Special Edition Script Extender) is still in Beta AFAIK. It still isn't as awesome as the original, SKSE. Assuming that you're not on a budget, get the original version and stick to that for the time being. If you utilize your stuff right, your Oldrim (Original Skyrim) experience might even top the new one. Going to start a new character and give survival mode a go. I remember in oblivion if you killed someone or stole something you wouldnt be able to use the armor or weapons until you visited all 9 shrines again. A mod from the Nexus? Maybe, although it'll be a serious Script-Heavy mod. Creation Club? Bah, just forget it. Take this "survival mode" for cheer example. Its a joke. Compare this "mod" with the stuff you have in Nexus. All it does is slap un-configurable cold, hunger and fatigue (NO THIRST?!) stats on you with a stupid mod layout. Nexus? Download Campfire, Realistic Needs & Diseases (or iNeed or Last Seed) and FrostFall. All of these mods are manageable on their own (discounting Last Seed), and all of them offer full experience. Actual ability to build campsites (which, for some dumbass reason, can't be done in Survival Mode), full needs (hunger, fatigue AND thirst) and better and more realistic/immersive Hypothermia (your temperature will drop depending on how cold the place is, in the frozen sides it'll drop to the max and if its just a cold breeze you'll only feel cold, you won't be in danger of dying from cold). TL;DR: Ignore the measly Survival Mode and get the three mentioned mods if possible. OT: I'm DYING to get this game again. Gaming in Libya means you'll have to buy pirated/cracked versions of the games, my gaming PC had the sh*tty Win10, I took it to my father's friend to change it to Win7..... only for the f*cker to not only use an un-genuine copy of Windows, but also "blocked" any chance of playing Skyrim again on my PC. In rage, I deleted every file but the Data folder. Any time I install Skyrim, when I launch the SkyrimLauncher.exe it only says "install" instead of the usual stuff it says (Play/Settings/Data Files/Site Suggestions/Exit). I can easily [not] transfer the file to my laptop and play Skyrim on that, but my laptop is too weak for the mod-combo I have (+16GB's worth of 4K/2K retexture + high-end ENB that not even my own PC can't handle). Worst part is, 11 of October is drawing near and I want to Speedrun the game/main Questline in that date, as a celebration of the Anniversary, but I can't do that because of my issue. In any case, I've made multiple screenshots during my play. K-END Pure Light Performance (this sh*t's tough!), pretty much every aMidianBorn and Rustic retexture (discounting Clothes) and Y.A.L.O - Yet Another Landscape Overhaul (name me a better retexture in terms of color, I'll be waiting).CBBE + Real Fitness (females in this game need all the muscles they can get).
