GTA V The DLC Disscussion

Recommended Posts

As we all know GTA V will take some aspects from both GTA IV and RDR, however the fact remains to be seen is for DLC what would Rockstar be willing to do, a story mode expansion like in IV with Johnny or Luis or multiplayer/single player upgrades like RDR with no story being added to it.

Now before any of you start saying that there was Undead Nightmare for RDR that in my mind is not cannon and cannot be seen as an expansion to the main story considering it rips apart the time space continuum, so my question to you is this: story or upgrades? RDR was small on the story expansion side but offered a fairly large amount of content that upgraded the game's multiplayer. However GTA IV's DLC had many upgrades that were contained within the singleplayer and not much was done to improve multiplayer, in the last expansion as RDR.

So make your choice, upgrades for multiplayer or expansions for single player.

NOTE: This is not saying that both of these options won't become a reality, I would just like to hear what the fans of the series would rather have for their DLC.

Discuss.

EDIT: Well, f*ck.

An expansion of the main story, defiantly. What they did with IV was extremely well done and I would eagerly buy more of the same content for the next release. Not only would it add a ton more replay value but it showcases how clever the storylines are by incorporating the crossovers.

I think the next GTA should be like GTA IV was with Niko, Johnny and Luis. Except instead of having to buy episodic content the game will just come with all three protagonists and you can choose which one you want to play first. Instead of one having 100+ missions and the rest having about 20, each story will have like 50 missions. The exclusive features like weapons/vehicles should be kept to a minimum too, just make it so each story has pretty much everything available.

Snake Without a Tongue

I loved the DLC for GTAIV and I loved Undead Redemption for RDR, but I really preferred getting the extra stuff in multiplayer in RDR. Assuming GTAV takes its MP cues from RDR, I'd like to see some ten dollar add ons. Maybe all the above since it was all awesome. Multiple full-length stories in the same city was pretty sweet.

Finn 7 five 11

Definitely the story, there was a couple new features in the GTA DLC's anyway, although somewhat minor.

I actually enjoy the DLC's heaps, they are good fillers between games, and sometimes you don't want a full game.

I loved the episodes. In my opinion, TLAD and TBoGT was and IS easily the best downloadable content ever.

I liked Undead Nightmare aswell, but the GTA IV Episodes felt like bigger productions, and they were more worth the money than any of the RDR DLCs. I liked some of the RDR DLCs, but mainly, many of them felt like a rip-off, and just sort of going the way most other companies do. Making bad DLC worth almost nothing, and charging quite a bit for it. That first DLC for RDR wasn't worth anywhere near 800 microsoft points. You got new multiplayer maps and characters, and a tomahawk. I'd pay 240 microsoft points for that. The only thing in there i wanted was the axe. So yeah, i didn't buy that. You could fight in Blackwater multiplayer in free roam. Why would i pay 800 microsoft points to be able to do it and basically just get to do the samething but with an "End"?

Nah. Legends and Killers and Liars and Cheats pack were not worth the money. Liars and Cheats offered a bit more. I actually got that one, and Stronghold was / is brilliant. But the best DLC for Red Dead was undoubtly Undead Nightmare. Just like the IV Episodes, it was greatly priced and gave alot of new playtime.

And as long as the story of the main game is long and well written, and works on its own, like it did in GTA IV, i would love for them to do somethign simular to the episodes in GTA V.

If they must take us for as much as they can, then episodic dlc, although I will always wait until they are released as a game, like I did with eflc. Although I didn't think much of TLAD, BoGT was better than GTA:IV, I just wish that had been the main game.

I'm with everyone here in wanting story expansions like TLaD & TBoGT were to IV. They were expertly written and I loved the little crossovers so more of that please. May be they could stretch to 3 Epsiodes this time...?

I do like akavari112's idea of the main game simply having 3 Protagonists and you play through them one at a time or you chose whichever story you want to play first. A similar game to that was the first Getaway where you actually ended the game halfway through but then you play the next 12 missions as another character which expands the story and puts everyting together.

I haven't yet played Red Undead Redemption (hey, see what I did there?) so I am dissapointed to read it isn't really considered canon, although I must say I am not surprised considering the content haha!

If RockStar have got their thinking caps on thenthey will include episodes that also include Upgrades...then again, the nameless probably got it right by saying they will most likely 'milk us for as much as they can'.

Alternate character's interweaving storyline, tons and tons of side missions (if only so many are in the base game) bringing taxi, bus, coach, dancing... and a different angle on the city (or state) through the new protagonist's eyes and situation. Pretty much what the Ballad of Gay Tony did for IV. Or maybe a vampire fantasy storyline! >.>

Not very imaginative perhaps, but it's not easy to define a fantasy DLC without knowing what the basic game will contain.

I have to agree with what a few other guys have said, i like how R* did the DLC with IV. As even though it was a new game (actually 2) you saw some of the characters that you did when you spent time as Niko and his time in LC. Also a few of the missons overlapped which i thought was a nice touch like the mission with Niko and Johnny in the museum etc, so i think going down that route again cant hurt R* aslong as the storyline is good. (Which it always is)

The-San-Andreas-man

I think we should have a story DLC (like in IV), a zombie DLC (Like in RDR, single player story or no SP story), and a vehicles/weapons/features pack(the other 2 will have these) that include more content than the others, but with no story mode changes.

That's just my idea, so yeah lol

Definately, They are a brilliant way to fill a gap between the present and future gta. If people have reached 100% completion though want a little extra to keep them going then they'd crave a new DLC or episode. They provide things such as a new storyline, extra achivements/trophies and new vehicles/multiplayer activities. I would definately love another episode. lol.gif

Long Haired Freaky Guy

If they do release DLC content, then IMO they need to plan this whilst making the original V game. Having all 3 IV games run at the same time brought across many things that contradicted each other, but ere fun nonetheless, and it was fun to see them all come together.

I loved the IV DLC, especially TBoGT, with all it's weapons and explosive missions. Yes, they were short, but this is the whole point of DLC, too make an addon for a game without putting so much into it that it classes as a seperate game.

Kind of on the same topic as DLC, but seperate in a way, I was thinking the other day about whether or not it would be possible for online players to have updates added to their game? Like, they could add little changes to the map, such as road works or new buildngs/structures been 'built'...

They aren't doing those types of DLC's anymore, they've said it. The reason is because it costs too much money as it is like creating another game, it's also a waste of time for them. They wanna do something different, believe me this comes from Dan Houser himself. I think i read it from the GI magazine or somewhere, i can't remember though since i deleted the last preview magazine.

Something simple would be nice, just like a regular DLC, adding some new weapons, new vehicles, new peds. There's already three protagonists in the game and most people won't probably even bother playing all of those storylines, so why make even more missions with DLC's?
