Question about car mods

Recommended Posts

im new to modding san andreas on pc and i had a quick question about car mods. Can you replace every car in the game or only one at a time? i started out downloading a bunch of different cars to replace the cars in game but start running into issue with the game crashing with an error. thanks

I usually install cars one by one manually. I use imgtool to import the dff/txd into the img file, then open the readme for that particular car and copy the carcols, carmods, handling.cfg, and vehicles.ide lines from the readme into the right spots in those files. Then if the car doesn't work quite right out of the box (sometimes wheel sizes are wrong or some handling flag is funky), I'll go back into handling.cfg or vehicles.ide and edit stuff until I get it working how I want. I also have a backup of the entire original game that I never change. It takes up almost 5 gigs, but it's worth having it there in case I ever screw anything up biggrin.gif Also, if you're wary of editing the data files by hand, just download one of the editor programs on here, they make it really easy to understand what means what inside the file. Good luck and happy modding!

Well, that's the beauty of doing it one by one. You can replace every car in the game, or just the ones you want to. For example, I have one copy of the game that's stock, with a few cars replaced, but I'm working on a TC that'll have every single vehicle replaced with new ones, including the planes, bikes, boats, etc. Also, just so you know, doing everything manually is more time consuming but more accurate than using a mod installer such as GGMM or SAMI. Doing it my way would probably take a good few weeks working on it a few hours a night to get every car replaced, but once they're in, they're in the right way and everything works how it should. Also, if you're planning on replacing every car in the game, you'll need to download Sacky's limit adjuster so that the game won't crash when you get too many hi-poly models in there.
