shadow85
Hi, Installed everything successfully, updated to 1.0.7.0, signed into social club etc etc. When I go to play, the disc authenticating icon comes up, but then nothing happens, no error messages, windows, or anything. The icon dissapears and the game wont start. My specs: TT TP 750W GA-P55A-UD5 i5-750 @ 3.6 GHz 2x2GB Ripjaws @ 1440MHz GTX 295 Raptor 150GB HD Windows 7 ultimate x64
mkey82
This is probably a securom related problem. Try reinstalling the VC++ libraries found on the game disk. Do you have any disk imaging software installed?
shadow85
I even went to repair when I tried to install again, and it said installing direct x and Microsoft visual C++ redis, again but the game still wont start.
shadow85
Yes I think it is a securom problem, because I just tried another game that uses securom, Alone in the Dark 5 and that did exactly the same thing, it wont start. How do I fix this? I have already re-installed Visuall C++ 2005 redist.
shadow85
I had to download a crack to get Alone in the dark 5 working, this means I will have to download a crack to get GTAIV working. Can't believe this is the sh*t I have to resort to get legit paid games to work.
shadow85
I noticed that GTAIV starts properly until I apply this patch: "title_update_7_EN.zip from the website. Is there something wrong with this patch why does it make GTAIV not start?

Iffy50
From my post below: I installed patch 7 last night and my GTA 4 promptly stopped working. This is a fault with the patch. To get it to work again: Go to your browser and open Disc 1. One of the folders is: RGSC Open this folder and run setup If rockstar games social club is running, the game will run. shadow85
i did as mkey mentioned above, install the new GFWL manually, and it worked.
mkey82
Christ people, when you are in doubt GOOGLE. Generally, the internet is not the a place where you'll be taken around by hand. 1. GFWL= Games For Windows Live. Check under installed programs for it and remove all the installed versions then install this GFWL update 2. Yes, Daemon tools causes issues with Securom, remove it. Cottontop3000
Hey everyone. Great Forum! This is my first post here, so be gentle. I know this thread is old, but, a couple of days ago, I had the problem that the threadstarter did. I didn't find this thread until today though, and for a different reason. Some things have (sort of) become more interesting for me since reading it. Today, I was searching google for references to certain files/directories that McAfee QuickClean couldn't or wouldn't clean out of my temporary files folder, even though it identified them as targets to remove, repeatedly. I'll list them: (ohhh....the time and effort it takes to live sometimes) AUG2005DXREDIST DXREDIST G4WL inst Temp1_title_update_7_EN(1).zip title_update_7_EN Temp1_title_update_7_EN.zip title_update_7_EN Temp2_title_update_7_EN.zip title.update_7_EN ISTMP3.DIR ISTMP0.DIR I was interested in why QuickClean wouldn't remove these, wondering if they were new malware of some sort. Today, in my search regarding the files above, I was directed to shadow85's 5th post in this thread. This was kind of an "ah-hah" moment for me because, a couple of days ago, I found gtaforums for the first time while looking for a solution to the problem that this thread was started about, 2 years ago. Weird full-circle kind of a thing. Twice, in 2 days, for two different reasons, I am here. (Briefly, here's what happened to me with regard to GTA IV, in case there are any other latecomers to the game.) I'd install GTA IV, create the two accounts necessary to register and play the game (one at Rockstar Games and one at Games for Windows Live, which is now basically xbox live I think), link them, and then every time I'd click on the large PLAY button in the bottom left corner of the old Rockstar Social Club "enter" screen, I'd get that damn "WS10 error" and it would kick me back to the desktop. I spent almost 36 hours trying to get into that game. So, I reinstalled. And reinstalled. Eventually, I found gtaforums, a godsend. Here's what I pieced together from several separate threads here. I installed the newest version of Games for Windows Live http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/pc/downloadclient and I installed the latest patch for GTA IV, which is here http://support.rockstargames.com/entries/4...-0-5-2-japanese. Next, I had to spend a good while trying to get back into the game, because when I installed the patch, it said I no longer needed Rockstar Social Club to play the game and asked me if I wanted to delete it, which, of course, is exactly what I did. So, no more club, and...wait for it....no more doggone shortcut to the game itself. He he. Very funny. Hardy har har har! I'm a relative newb to the technical side of the games I love so much, so I didn't know where to look to find the .exe file for the game, and when I did eventually stumble upon GTAIV.exe, which I was sure would work, it didn't. No...the one you need is named LaunchGTAIV.exe, which (phew!) happened to be located in the same place thankfully, "C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV". On my computer, with my OS, that is. Anyway, I dragged that file to my desktop as a shortcut and got into the game, finally. Hope that helps someone, because this is work, getting all of this down. Now, back to the reason I'm here today, the 12 files I listed above. Thanks to this thread, I now know that the .zip files are left over from the patch for GTA IV (I must have gone through the re-install and patch process three times, since there are three .zip files), but I don't know why McAfee QuickClean isn't removing them, nor what the other 8 files/directories are. Anyone got any thoughts on this? Cottontop3000 P.S. Now that I'm able to get into GTA IV, guess what? 10-15 fps. He he. P.P.S. Why am I a player hater and what is that sickly-yellow looking symbol near my name? And, if you don't mind, could someone give me their opinion on whether or not it sounds right for me to be getting such low fps for my system, which is: How can I get my DxDiag.txt file in here? Or should I? Edited January 9, 2013 by Cottontop3000
