The-King
Now as of late I've come to notice less and less reports being acted upon by moderators, I've reported a good dozen or so spambot posts linking to that dealstudios site (among others) and the posts are still there, unedited and completely un-acted upon. Gaming chat has seen several massive topics that are against the section's stated rules, IE: the two topics in regards to the best console/system, both posted by the same person and reported for being against the rules on multiple occasions. Numerous topics that should have been locked have been left open because it seems as if the majority of our moderatory staff don't even look at reports anymore, I've even seen a couple of oversized signatures stay as such for a day or more before having been acted upon. Hell we have several moderators who haven't even logged in in weeks nor posted in months. I understand the staff have lives outside of the forum, but anymore that seems like nothing more than an excuse used to validate apathy. One would figure that if you're granted such a position it's supposed to atleast be understood that you do your job. It's also occurred to me that we have plenty of active members who have consistently supported and been an active part of the community. Some having been led-bys for a gratuitously long period of time who deserve the position far more than those who aren't even around to use their powers. And of course some evidence, just for solidarity. Here's one, a reported post by a spambot, which has gone completely un-acted upon. And another that's been reported and is still there. I'm quite fond of this one, which is rather amusing because right before I reported it two moderators (James and Mark) answered the spambot's pre-generated question. Of course the two blatently against the rules console wars topics as well. |PropagandaIncorporated:|: Steam:|: DeviantArt:|: Last.FM|
coin-god
I agree with you. And let's not talk about the V and IV forum. Ive been thinking this while watching this topic: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=464344 The guy was spamming, trolling or whatever for some time until he was banned (reported him twice I think), but now he has another account and even keeps trolling. I also reported his new account now. Edited December 8, 2010 by goin-god
Ryan
I agree with you. And let's not talk about the V and IV forum. If you don't mind me asking, what's the issue in regards to moderation in the GTA V forum?

If you don't mind me asking, what's the issue in regards to moderation in the GTA V forum? Sorry, I was thinking about the spam and stuff.. but forgot that you actually take care of that. Another problem in moderation, imo, are the Modding Competitions. Although we asked plenty of times, and me and other users PM'd Dutchy and GK about it, we hardly get any info of why there are no competitions planed. I even suggested that a few non moderators could set it up, but no moderator replied. http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=427726&st=60 Pretty much the whole Comp. board is pointless because of this. In all seriousness though, if there are any issues with the V forum you see, don't be afriad to say them. I'd rather know about them and try to fix them then not know. Honestly, I think we need some new staff. We've got a decent hand full modding staff and global moderates who are inactive or don't do anything. Why not replace the inactive ones with new ones who will actually do the job?
uNi
If you think something that has been reported got missed or forgotten please consider openning a topic about it here. There's several staff members that aren't mods or even led-bys, once of us we'll have a look and bump it into an mod or admin if necessary. Well the thing is, it's been going on for months now and is consistently occurring. The-King
Are you sure this member is a spambot? Completely sure, the two sites I've noticed the Spambots linking repeatedly are Dealstudio and DVDthebestonline, a good eighty percent of the spambot posts I've reported had links to either one of those two. |PropagandaIncorporated:|: Steam:|: DeviantArt:|: Last.FM|

Of course the two blatently against the rules console wars topics as well. You have picked 5 issues on a forum with hundreds and hundreds of posts per day. Out of the 80-100 reports over the course of a day, 1 per day getting missed is extremely good if you ask me, is that around a 99% moderation rate? If we had 50 active moderators there would still be bots which are missed, its a part of forum life I am afraid and until we move to the new forums there is nothing we can do to stop them. However I dont see anyone else losing sleep over it and getting very upset about a few random bot posts, while I thank you for bringing the 5 rouge posts to our attention there is also another method of reporting said post again? Even sending a PM to a moderator or ledby? When I log onto the forums on a morning the first thing I do is check the reports, most of the time MM, Xcom, Jelly or Freak have done them all and theres none more to do, and please dont forget over night (UK) there can be 4 pages of reports, then I check in during the day along with other staff and we keep on top of the reports. We cannot police every single forum, I am not starting at the top of the forum and going through every single section, every sub forum and then every single topic. Take into consideration all the sections, all the sub forums then the amount that is posted on a daily basis, 5 missed reports is nothing so I am lost to why you have taken this so seriously but again, thanks for your concern and I will eradicate your concerns straight away. @goin-god - I will get Ryan to bring this matter up in the staff room and we can get a solution sorted out. Miro
^Waddy actually sorts out the reports. Same goes for jelly. I remember reporting a lot of over-sized signatures and actually only Waddy and jelly sent me PMs related to them. Means they care . It's true that there are plenty of mods and admins who are inactive, but seriously, you can't un-admin Tank for not posting, or anyone else. Why not make a moderator selection? So that people can vote who they want mod and who not. Pretty sure being, all the staff should take care about the reports, not only a few. I'd guess the only reason why we have so many moderators and/or administrators is because of the shiny past they had. Just saying... If we're going to play around in imaginary maths land, The-King is one of 356,562 members. If each of those members posted here about five unresolved issues, you'd have an astronomically ludicrous number to counter your '95%' figure. Anyhow, it seems like Eric's been reporting this stuff at length, and without action taken - brought it up here. Now action has been taken. I don't think he's done anything to deserve the cheeky tone you're giving him. You even say yourself: 'We cannot police every single forum'. Perhaps you could use a few more global moderators, so you can police every single forum. It's been a while since we've seen some fresh faces, and god knows there are some deserving ledbys. Tyler
Otter, I think we all know that you want to be a mod, that doesn't mean you get to ask. On a serious note, I think some of the area moderators should be made into globals for their work in their respective forums. Maybe Girish, Ryan or GTArv. Just a suggestion, though. I don't think he's done anything to deserve the cheeky tone you're giving him. You even say yourself: 'We cannot police every single forum'. He has indeed been helping out with reports, I myself commended him earlier this year for exactly that, because he reports many report worthy posts. Again, out of the many he has reported which to be exact is 251, only 5 have been 'missed'? Again, thats not bad is it? I have no idea what you are talking about regarding my 'tone'. I think I covered everything in my post in reply to Eric. There has been no news at all re the new GTA game and until then the forums settle into a far inactive place. Some of the admins and mods often go inactive during these periods, and as I stated in my previous post the reports are always handled very quickly apart from the 0.01% which have now been dealt with. The general opinion when this was brought up only last week is that we have no need for new mods at all. I hope my tone is more to your liking? And I've got a snowball's chance! There's a few great candidates off the top of my head - Moonshield and uni, for example. Level-headed longstanding members who don't go inactive in the lull between GTA releases. editx2 - girish Edited December 9, 2010 by Otter
Jay
Otter, I think we all know that you want to be a mod, that doesn't mean you get to ask. I never understood these types of presumptions. Moderating is a hellish, thankless job and only a particular brand of masochist would wish for such a position - especially on a forum of this size. Or someone with a dick that is particularly tiny. Mark
They all are online, it's just they're from different parts of the globe. So you have a few online during in the day and a couple at night. I think the reason why a bunch of staff members seem inactive is because they're anonymous. I mean, why are they? When showing we're online, we get (well, I do anyway) over 5 PMs a day about random sh*t or name change requests. If I'm busy enjoying real-life and merely pop by on my phone once in a blue moon, I log in on my PC to find 20 odd PMs sitting there from irate thankless members. I don't blame the majority of staff for appearing offline! I've been damn well inactive recently due to work commitments, however I pop online at least once a day if I can to check the reported posts, often to find none to do. I don't have time to sift through the boards myself at the moment, hell I get half a day a week to myself if I'm lucky. That's just me, I'm sure a large number of staff are the same mind. We're generally older members, all with full time jobs and other commitments, so we rely on you guys to report stuff. If I don't see any in the last 1 or 2 pages of reports, I log out and get on with whatever else I should've been doing instead of moderating a gaming forum. Maybe a few more Globals wouldn't hurt mind. Plenty of worthy people.

There's at least 4 or 5 mods in this current state in life. Would it really hurt to add a few new faces as global mods who are active and could help out?
