Jigglyass
Because you don't have enough Vram. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/464666-uses-alot-of-vmem/#findComment-1060235780 Share on other sites

IronHide-AW
The default game behavior is to restrict settings based on resources / memory to try and keep performance up. The more you go over available resources the more you risk it chugging to disk and obliterating performance. You can bypass these things to see how they impact you though. I.e you can remove restrictions so you can set whatever you want and see if it destroys your gameplay or not. In particular the -norestrictions of this guide is a place to start, or removing all with -nomemrestrict which is the one I recall using. mkey82
Also, you need a screen with proper resolution, 1440x900 can't possibly show all the details on 100 draw distance. Remember that VRAM without any actual GPU raw power means sh*t. I.e. a weak card with loads of VRAM is still a weak card. YankeesPwnMets
The cheapest card today with over 1204 MB of VRam is a GTX 470 with 1280 MB ram at 250 bucks. But I think something like a Radeon 5870 2GB edition or GTX 570 1280 MB would be a little better Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/464666-uses-alot-of-vmem/#findComment-1060240365 Share on other sites
BLKMAG
57 avg fps is ok but you're definitely GPU bottlenecked. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/464666-uses-alot-of-vmem/#findComment-1060240542 Share on other sites

Shalashaska1
GTX 470 does not have enough vram to max the game without popins. Are you able to explain this further? As far as I can see (from using nomemrestrict), running the game totaly maxed out at 1920x1200 uses 1211MB of vram. The GTX470 has 1280MB, which the game shows as 1240MB, meaning with max settings you have headroom of around 39MB, which is enough to stop it from highlighting the red memory warning. With my current GTX 275, I have set the graphics so they use around 30MB less than the cards full vram, and I get no popins. Do you own a GTX 470?, I am soon to buy one specificaly for this game and would like further info, thanks. ArtG818
57 avg fps is ok but you're definitely GPU bottlenecked. What does it mean when its bottlenecked im not very good at this thanks Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/464666-uses-alot-of-vmem/#findComment-1060244545 Share on other sites
mkey82
It means that the parts are not well matched performance wise. If you have a slow CPU with a fast GPU, you'll be CPU bottlenecked as it will keep the entire system slower then the other parts would allow. mkey82
Well, depends on which card exactly you have, but probably yes. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/464666-uses-alot-of-vmem/#findComment-1060244568 Share on other sites
Jimbatron
Your VRAM will still limit how high your settings can be raise, the GPU will determine how well it runs on those settings. From your report, it looks like you are running an early patch of the game. The latest patch seems to reduce the VRAM requirements - but in my case I took a performance hit.
