Festivals 2011

With festivals already announcing headliners I thought I would start a thread for them.

Download have already announced System Of A Down as a headliner and Avenged Sevenfold have also been confirmed.

Earlier this morning Sonisphere have announced their first headliner as Slipknot. This will be their first UK appearance since their headlining appearance at Download in 2009.

Leeds or bust.

(That's my arm, with wristbands, btw)

Hopefully going for my third year in a row this (well, next) year. I really wish they'd announce the line-up before the tickets go on sale though. As it is you have to trust the organisers' tastes, which to be fair have been pretty consistent with mine for the past ~5 years. If you get a ticket and the line up's sh*t though, just sell it on at face value/for a profit.

I've reigned in my spending over this summer. I'm only going to Soundwave and No Sleep Til.

I really don't like Big Day Out at all because it's a bogun paradise, and I really f*cking hate the people that go to festivals like Future Music, Stereosonic, Summadayze and the like. The music is my scene though, unfortunately.

At least in Australia we now have a choice. Before my time it was BDO or nothing.

WHAT? I thought System was on an 'Indefinite Hiatus'? Where is this festival to be held? I might buy tickets to Europe if they are actually headlining.

Headlining Download Festival at Castle Donington [right next to East Midlands airport if you wanted to make the trip], doing at least 1 headline show in Europe too, only one I know of is Paris so far. Last time they toured in 2005, headlining Download was part of a UK tour. It is also rumored System will be headlining some of the mainland Europe Sonisphere festivals.

You bet.

Can hardly wait, I've seen pretty much every other major band on that card before so I'll be sitting pretty till Maiden come on.

I found out the other day that The Big Four of thrash metal (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax) will be attending Sonisphere 2011 in Knebworth so I'll be going to that, for sure. Hopefully Biffy Clyro don't f*ck it up, because they've been announced as well and they are really not right for that crowd. However, Pendulum and Placebo were at last year's, and they were f*cking incredible.

Omnia sunt Communia

Only festival I'm going to next year, like every year, is Rebellion festival. Just found out two of my friends' bands are playing (Charred Hearts and Spanner); so with any luck I might be able to get myself in for free (like I did last year).

I haven't got the money to dish out £100 for a ticket, especially considering how little bands I see, plus it's cheaper to just hitchhike up there, squat a place for the weekend then sneak into the venue - the only expenses then is food!

lol, my mate sneaked in last year and got a full weekend wristband, he just said it got ripped off in a moshpit and he lost it. I think i'll do the same, nobody who I hang around with actually pays to get in. And most of them go squatting for the weekend; that café over the road from the venue was rough as f*ck this year, trying to jump over that wall intoxicated wasn't good.

Don't forget Oxygen 2011 has been announced. Don't really want to go though. I'd give my arm to go to Leeds, Coachella or Glastonbury though.

Contray to my earlier post I've decided that Rebellion isn't the only festival I plan on going to this year. With any luck I also want to goto Punk Illegal in Sweden, Means To An End in Bradford, Scumfest in London and I'll be helping organize Subvert Festival in Bristol. May also goto International Ska Festival in London.

Life Festival is on again in my country. Should be about 5,000 people at it which is huge compared to when I first went. Plenty of all stuff electronic there - Drum & Bass, Techno, Psytrance chillout etc but also some Reggae, Traditional etc. It's a very international festival with a lot of people from the continent travelling to it. There's not so many festivals that cater for non-commercial music that's not sponsored by a drinks company - meaning you can go wherever you like with your booze. Highly decorative festival too with nice visuals and lots of creative stuff about the place. And it's set here..

Did Witness/Oxygen before and never again. It's f*ckin' too big. 20-35mins walking to get to your tent/stage. Can't bring your booze in to the arena. No decoration or anything extra. Over priced food. Every twat/arsehole under the age of 18 there to see some sh*tty artist you don't care about like Beyonce. Pink Cowgirl hats. Enough said.

Did do a large-ish festival last year. Electric Picnic. Got to see some great acts like Liquid Liquid, Leftfield, 808 State & Laurent Garnier. Great festival with plenty to do other than stand at a stage or face down in a pile of mud in the campsite. There's a rave in the woods which is basically the organisers of Life Festival playing Psytrance which is sweet when you still have a bag of Ket left and it's pissing rain Sunday night and you still want to party!

TPFS: sh*t, never knew about Life Festival, going to tell the lads and see if we get a chance to go down. Might go oxygen, only if i get free tickets off my cousin who works for a radio station or if my friends dad, Mick Devine, who chaufferus all the people playing at Oxygen to get us in.

All Tomorrow's Parties is the only one I'm vaguely interested in. I used to go to Download regularly, but the lineups have been getting progressively worse since about 2005. Bloodstock looks quite interesting too.

Well that would be sweet if it works out. Some of the artists you get at Oxegen are legendary like Aphex Twin or Fleetwood Mac but they would be much more suited at another festival.

Well, if you decide to go to Life and I'm there we shall drink a few togther, man!

One of my mates was trying to persuade me to come to Leeds this year, but the line-up is canny piss poor I reckon. A bunch of my mates pulled out after it was announced too. Other than The Strokes, the other two headliners - My Chemical Romance and Muse - really aren't my thing. I can take or leave Pulp, and there's a few bands further down the bill I'd have liked to see - Death From Above 1979, Interpol and The Vaccines - but not gonna fork out so much just so see those few. Going to see Vaccines in June anyways, and I'll be getting Strokes tickets for their own tour if/when they announce it.

Coachella's line-up is f*ckin' incredible though: Strokes, Arcade Fire, Cold War Kids, Black Keys, Kanye, Chemical Brothers, the list goes on... shame it's half way across the world.
