Hell No..
What's "The Boys Village?" The Boys Village is a short film me and my friend made randomly as we went out to explore some random abandoned buildings. We started filming, and just went along with it, and from nowhere, we had something and think it turned out OK. Some of you might remember the first one, here is the link to the topic: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=441158, but for those who have not seen it, here it is: (Advised you watch the first, obviously) Part 1 Part 2 We had to do the first one in two parts as YouTube only allowed 10 mintues to be uploaded, now it's 15 minutes, so the second is just as one and is around 14 minutes. We started filming it (the 2nd) around April/May, but due to things such as work/university/moving, things got slowed down and delayed, then the weather changed through the winter and we obviously could not film in the rain, but we did it, eventually! Seeing as we filmed it over so many months, we had to try and keep things looking the same, and most importantly, remember where we left off and how to carry it on. So yeah, it was a big challenge, a lot more travelling, and editing, but I hope think it has payed off. I hope you can at least enjoy it, maybe it could of been better, but it's done now and I'm pleased with it, so tell me what you think. C+C as some would say. Here it is... click it to go to YouTube and watch it in a bigger size. If you enjoy it, please share it how you wish, being on FB, or Twitter, Thanks all! I'm on Twitch! Are you? Typhus
First of all, I must say that this is brilliant work. The picture quality is fantastic and the music builds up the tension well. Be proud that you made such a great, classically scary movie. When the killer reached up the ladder I almost jumped out of my skin, there were moments of real fear. And what a great location! You were really lucky to film at such a place, did you write some of that creepy graffiti yourself? Or was it already there? Pentagrams, 'You're Next', 'FEAR'. If I saw that, I'd be loathe to stick around. Wonderful setting. However, I have one big criticism, and it probably says more about my own personal prefrences than your skills as a film-maker. Your main antagonist was pretty uninspired. The location was astounding, but when the villain is revealed as a man in a hoody, it's rather a disappointment. I think that in such a setting the villain should be a genuine oddball, the kind of weirdo who really would be lurking there and chasing off tresspassers. As it was, he just looked a bit chavvy, which is a shame as he had some great scenes. The sickle scraping against the wallpaper? Genius! I just wish he was a lot creepier and had a more distinctive look. Perhaps even talking to himself and mumbling incoherently whilst chasing the hero. Or maybe you could have seen all sorts of bizarre sh*t around the village. Like shrines and other oddities, that would give us an insight into both his mental state and perhaps his motivations. As I said, that's perhaps more based on my own love of a good villain than a serious problem with anything you've done, because you did so much right! Honestly mate, I hope you make more stuff like this, topics like this are why I come here

meta187
Good work as always, Ryan. Once again, a great location choice, good use of camera angles and music. I really like how you went to a bit more trouble to get some of the more difficult shots as well, such as filming upward from the grate. Just a few questions: * I'm not sure if I asked this in the last topic but I ended up watching the first two films for reference again. Did you guys spraypaint some of the more suggestive messages on the walls such as the, "You're next", "Thou shalt not walk in the house of CRUSH" and the Pentagram or was that just a happy coincidence? *Were the Manhunt and Silent Hill references intentional or just the side effect of too many video games? *On the part where "The Unknown" knocks out "The Protagonist" and you wake up with the sun in your face, why did he choose not to kill you? I wasn't clear on that. Maybe a shot of you tumbling down a hill after the initial hit would have made it make more sense but I really like how you used the plane flying overhead as a distraction leading up to the attack, very improvisational. *Your character kills the Unknown several times between the two films but he keeps coming back, so I'm guessing he's sort of a slightly more vulnerable Jason Vorhees type? My son actually laughed out loud when you hit him in the leg with the hammer. Others may nitpick but I think if anything you are getting some valuable practice towards pursuing this as an actual career, aside from this being a amateur film between two guys filming in their free time with a camera you have shown an aptitude towards employing many professional techniques and savvy editing skills, so keep at it. Tommy-Vercetti19
Great work, i'm going to show this to my Film Studies teacher. Blizzard14
This is great! Watching this reminded me of Manhunt and Manhunt 2, especially the plastic bag part, and the execution at the end. Keep up the good work!
Hell No..
Thanks guys, really appreciated. @Typhus & meta, the graffiti and words were already there, so that was a great touch that we didnt have to add ourselves. I'm not sure why he didn'tkill him when he knocked him out, maybe he just wanted to play around more? We didn't intent to give it a video game feel, so that's interesting that people are feeling this. @Tommy, thanks, and that sounds cool, let us know if you do, and the reaction! I'm on Twitch! Mr.Mister
Halfway through part II... I must say I really like your films. The fact that the characters dont talk makes it really good, and that seperates itself from other short films. Good amount of action and suspense for only a short film. Nice work!
