oterd
Hi guys. just having a few problems with the shadows in GTA4. cant find any other info on this so i guess its unique to my PC. There seems to be a invisible "box" type thing around my character at all times... while on foot and in cars. Its pretty small, maybe a meter or two around the character ingame. Anyway everything inside this box has a normal shadow. but when other cars drive out of the box the shadow underneath it turns to crap! only shows half the shadow, gaps in the shadow etc. seems like my shadow draw distance is farked. When cars drive out of the box, or line infront of me i can see the good shadow turn to crap as it goes though heres my pc: EVGA X58 SLI 3 Intel X58 i7 DDR3 ATX USB 3.0 SATA 3/6G (131-GT-E767-TR) Intel Core i7 950 Nehalem 3.06GHz 8MB 1333MHz LGA1366 OCZ Intel Extreme Series 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3-1600 CL8 EVGA nVidia GeForce GTX480 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-E Microsoft Windows 7 OEM Home Premium 64Bit I run everything around high / veryhigh and have tried taking the settings down but it doesnt work. Ive seen other screenshots and all shadows under cars from a distance look fine so i cant figure out whats causing this.. also ive just got this PC so i havent played any other patches. only the latest. i think im on patch 7 or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
oterd
Also how would i go about reverting down a patch or two? anyway to bypass GFWL auto updates?
Jigglyass
To play online, or to be online on GFWL, you have to have a latest patch installed. Lookup xliveless if you want to play in offline mode, with any other patch. Do you happen to use SLi?

oterd
doesnt memrestrict just reduce stuttering or somthing? my gta runs ok
Jigglyass
doesnt memrestrict just reduce stuttering or somthing? my gta runs ok With patch 6, R changed the way textures and shadows are handled in conjunction with video memory. That memrestrict basically forces GTA to use all of your VRAM, possibly reducing your problem or eliminating it. Also, try uninstalling the current driver, use driver sweeper to clean its traces and install current latest.

oterd
how do i take my game version back to 1.0.4 or 1.0.5?? could i just download it manually and install it over the current one?
LCstuntman
No, you gotta reinstall the whole game. Can you take a screenshot of what is happening?
oterd
my screenshots arnt working properly. ill try to explain it better. firstly, car shadows from a distance / short distance arnt very dark and sometimes only show half. but as the car comes closer to me theres some sort of invisible shadow draw distance line. and when the car drives over that line the shadow darkens up and fills in most of the shadowless areas. second problem is that the shadow directly under the driver, passanger and back seats of a convertable with its top down is missing. not sure if this is a game related graphical bug or something to do with my pc. sorry if my explanations are a bit confusing or dont make any sense at all. kinda hard without screenies
