GTA4 without having CD in the computer?

Everytime I try to play GTA it requires me to put in the CD, why do I have to do that?

Why can't I just play it after i've installed it on the CD, why do I need the CD inside to play it aswell.

Yes they are legit copies of the game because I have both of them and both their CD keys.

I'm just dissapointed that I need to have the CDs inside my computer to play it. Because my laptop doesn't actually have a CD drive in it, i have to use an external one which takes up a USB slot which I need.

So how do I fix this problem? If it comes down to it i'll just return it to buy them via Steam or something because this is retarded no offence...

just add your cd key to steam and download their version, no reason to buy it again

There's no legitimate way to play the game without the disc and hence, telling you how to play the game without the disc would be against the forum rules. I'm afraid you're on your own here.

IIRC SecuROM released an official No-CD patch a while pack. I tried to find it (someone send me a link to a forum that had it up) but now the download link has been removed. I'm sure you can find it with a google search still, or like I said, use a virtual drive.

But if this is against the forum rules then my bad, I just think that since the crack was offical and that virtual drives are perfectly legal it was ok.
