dog_day_sunrise
+1 Nazi Germany saved Europe from Stalinism. They were the only ones to stand up to that Bolshevik Prick. Everybody else, the so called "righteous" allies, was pissing their pants at the thought of the Red Terror. Germany preferred to open a can of Blitzkrieg. Kind of true. Odd fact of the day. "Blitzkrieg" (which isn't actually a German term and was coined in the 60's) was actually originally a Russian idea. The USSR was the first nation to build battalions entirely composed of armored infantry, artillery and tanks, and actually coined many advances such as the inclusion of radio communication systems in all vehicles to allow battlefield commanders to get live updates on the progress on a tactical level, and make operational adjustments in order to enable their forces to carry momentum during sorties- of course, dependent on supply routes, which is where both the Soviet and German interpretations of "Blitzkrieg" fell down, being overly reliant on rail and road transport with the absence of more modern transport aircraft. Hence why interdiction became so important in the defeat of Germany during the Second World War, and why it was religiously taught as part of US Air Force doctrine right up until the mid 1980's (when they shifted to the AirLand Battle doctrine). That was before the purges, when just about everyone involved in developing a modern warfare system was executed without trial, essentially casting the Soviet strategic ability back to the levels of the late 19th century. Oh and the correct term for Blitzkrieg is "maneuver warfare".

Mike Tequeli
Correct me if I'm wrong but before and during the war Nazi Germany raised itself out of the gutter by: A) telling WWI victors to get bent and not paying reparations B) Liquidating Jewish assets C) Using slave labor in manufacturing. Fascism isn't a good economic model but it's often thought to be one, essentially they only made it work by breaking the typical rules of commerce. Theft is not a sustainable growth model for making everyone wealthy. Fascism perhaps was not as grossly inefficient as Stalinism as far as we know but Hitler's endgame was Europe with a lower population density and higher percentage of agrarian workers. He was anti-modernist, like a lot of God damned hippies today, and they never know how to have an efficient economy. He was anti-modernist, like a lot of God damned hippies today, and they never know how to have an efficient economy. Actually, Fascist economics isn't very far removed from the economic systems used by most modern democracies. The basic principals of a workforce in which every individual works as if a component in a larger machine, and promotes competitive co-operation between organisations and individuals to provide the most effective and efficient possible overall outcome still exist in every big business and developed economy on the planet. Remember, the German economy had completely stagnated from the Wall St. Crash onwards, yet by 1936 Germany had become the most industrially powerful nation in Western Europe. True, some of it was provided by what has later been termed "slave labour" though in reality it was essentially forcing the unemployed into work for nationalised organisations- they did get board, food and/or payment for it in most cases. As for reparations, they were paid up until 1933 and accounted for something like 33% of German domestic GDP up to that point; assuming the same proportion of GDP was sacrificed by the NSDAP party then German economic growth 33-35 would have still been vastly faster than anywhere else in Europe. Oh, and from memory, the government didn't start seizing property from the Jewish community until late 1934/early 1935, by which point they'd already overtaken their closest competitors in terms of industrial strength. I'm not condoning any of the actions of the Nazi government, or the individual mental instabilities and complexes of it's leadership. However, compared to the actions of Stalin or even Mao, they were at least successful in some areas of economic and political development- especially in the modernisation of warfare and the playing out of concept of offensive realism in it's most basic and simplistic way 1937-1942. Oh, and in response to an early comment- I'm part Polish-Jewish. My grandfather was a pilot in the Polish Air Force who fled to the UK during the invasion in September 1939. Abel.
In 1938, he had 80, 000 political opponents to the re-unification of Austria and Germany killed. Austria and Germany had never before been unified. Prussia threw Austria out of German affairs in 1866 during the Astro-Prussian War. Sorry, I phrased it badly, I was referring to the reformation of the Anschluss.
Moonshield
I for some reason find it hilarious that some of you kids are lumping Justin Beiber in with the likes of Hitler and Stalin. I understand you're jealous that girls won't ever fawn over you as they do him, but come on. Comparing him to some genocidal despot? Crom's blood, get the tomb dust out of your vaginas. The problem is the mixture of a most hated people topic with a most evil topic. It's one of those situations where the off-topic discussion, the relative demerits of the worst people in the world, is actually a lot deeper than the on topic discussion of who is hated by a lot of people. George Bush and Justin Bieber legitimately draw a lot of hatred from a lot of people, mostly because they are alive. This doesn't mean that they are in any way comparable to Stalin or Hitler. Also throwing in a teen pop star with those people in a sentence feels really weird.

But he's definetley hated by the government. If someone from the government says (on national television) that you "should be assasinated". I think it's pretty clear that you are hated. Adolf Hitler just rants about ''Wir Deutschen werden alle Länder in der Welt zu erobern!!!'' Osama Bin Laden is a tactical genius but a strategic failure. One of the great self-defeatists of the modern age. If I'm pedantic, Hitler doesn't rant- he ranted. He may struggle to rant in his current position
