So this is something I've been wondering for awhile, do you guys think Niko was a legal immigrant or illegal? sure one of his quotes when he's running from the cops is something to the effect of "I've got my papers!" but I doubt he'd admit not having them out loud, lol who would Plus Roman mentions he dosen't have a Visa in the first mission, also maybe that partially what Niko means when he talks about how what he does is all that he can do to make money, could mean because he's not legal I dunno just a silly question I wondered lol Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We don't know exactly how and why Roman came to Liberty City. Because Niko came later, this might mean he actually took the time for the whole immigration process to carry out. True, I'm not sure about roman lol but we know for a fact Bernie is illegal. He outright says he is in the beginning cutscene for Union Drive so it wouldn't surprise me if Niko was the same way Also on that mission where you have to follow the Korean dude with the counterfeit money in a boat, Derrick says something to Niko about being illegal and saying he must know what its like to smuggle things into the country, he didn't disagree so that probably means he's illegal Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

No, and this often doesn't happen in real life either, because immigration is exclusively federal jurisdiction and not under local police and frequently an undocumented person cannot be matched to a database confirming his status, especially if the person gives false information. In any case Niko would not be deported until after he was prosecuted for the crime he was arrested for, and this never happens because, like all GTA protagonists, he can bribe his way out of custody every time.
