Morsaw
THEY NEED TO IMPROVE THE CITIES POPULATION/PEDESTRIANS/TRAFFIC!!!!! I swear sometimes the freeways feel like ghostowns. When you go to star junction you see only about a handful of people, when in reality, theres like 10000 people there in the real NY. Also, I wish the environment could socialize more with itself, so it feels more real, not as if the world revolves around you, I mean like people should actually have destinations, people can be seen buying drugs. You can actually get to know them by listening to them, lik for example, you can see a guy saying, "I have to find my daughter." And on the other side of town you can hear a girl saying, "I hate my parents, im glad I ran away." (Even though that would completely untrue and set a bad example for kids playing the game, if there are any.) So what do you guys think?
Morsaw
And about that increase population thing, ITS SO FREAKING EASY FOR ROCKSTAR TO DO!!!! All they have to do is increase the peds, nothing revolutionary there, they just need to change some game codes and whatnot.

Finn 7 five 11
Yes yes, we have all heard it before make the game more life like blah blah. Whilst i do agree with you to a point, it is only a game, and if there were 10 000 people in star junction wouldn't it be a pain in the ass if you were trying to get somewhere? or if there were traffic jams everywhere you went? In SA you could see people buying drugs. (Even though that would completely untrue and set a bad example for kids playing the game, if there are any. GTA setting a bad example? no way!!!! If games set an example to kids, then every kid would have a customized weapon from cod shooting people. Try setting out your post properly next time as well. NickRad
Yes I totally agree, i'm tired of going to places like Star Junction and it being very under populated

Not that I do, But I do understand that you can't just "increase the peds". If it were so, most developers would. It has something to do with RAGE, the Rockstar engine. like Anvil (The Ubisoft engine, used for Assassin's Creed ) It handle huge amount of AI great, at least compared to other engines, but there's still along way to go (At least for RAGE) before you can do a "life like" Time square. And then there's all the restrictions of the current hardware.
Akavari
They can't just turn up the pedestrian amount, it's not that simple. The game will lag and sh*t.
AceRay
The AI would suck if you added more. so, just avoid going there, go somewhere else.
Tyla
I'd give one hundred mindless clones for ten peds with a purpose. It's not the amount of them, it's what they do.
Niko_Vercetti7
I'll go to Star Junction sometimes and they'll be like four cars there total. And to add insult to injury they are usually all the same exact car just in a different color. I suppose everyone in Liberty City bought the same model car. Finn 7 five 11
Like Maxopower said, ps3 and xbox's processing power is not high enough to handle more pedestrians, if there were a millions peds everywhere you should be able to lose cops in the crowd (better ai) and they don't know exactly where you are. On PC it could be possible to have more ped density if you had a good computer. There is if you play PC (not me) a Pedestrian Density setting, but i don't know if this setting when at max exceeds pedestrian density normally on xbox and ps3, or if it just makes it lower than the set amount on ps3/xbox. No. Right now, a handful of cars and people is all that's possible on 360 and PC. Increasing the amount without sacrificing frame rates would mean using a lower poly city and less visual effects, which wouldn't be worth it. The PC is much better in this regard, but you still have to hang around an area for the cars and peds to build up. It's going to be a few years until there is hardware powerful enough to render a large amount of traffic anywhere you go. It's not as easy as 'changing some game codes and whatnot'. Filip
Anyway, I have increased number of peds, simply by editing some files I don't really remember. But anyway - in GTA 3 you can even do the same. On the trailer from GTA IV, we can see thousands of peds running through Star Junction. I bet that they decreased this number just because of fps
visionist
What I absolutely Hate is that every time you die and respawn outside a hospital there are absolutely NO VEHICLES AT ALL ANYWHERE. What-The-Fu*k? I just died and need to steal a vehicle and get back into the action but there's no vehicles to be seen. The streets are deserted. Rucke
I totally agree with this. I was walking around Star Junction (Times Square) in Liberty City when I realized that it didn't actually feel like New York. In NY the traffic is much more heavy, you hear car horns all the time, people yelling things etc. I really think they could have improved that to make it feel more realistic. Jabalous
I totally agree with this. In NY the traffic is much more heavy, you hear car horns all the time, people yelling things etc. I really think they could have improved that to make it feel more realistic. Could there be technical limitations that prevented them to make Star Junction more alive? I'm sure there are. RAGE engine was created for different reasons, one of them is to make it able to handle more objects in one screen, but there are still technical limitations for the PS3 and Xbox 360, so in GTA IV, you can still see some textures pop-up especially if you are going in a high speed. This problem is present almost in every current-gen game, but it's far less than the previous-gen games. I think it's a matter of frame rates, the developers need to balance the aspects of a game, so there won't be noticeable frame rate drops. It's impossible to create Star Junction as it's in reality in terms of the traffic, because that simply will cause the game to run at very low frame rates, that if it didn't stop completely from running. There are still potentials that the PS3 and the Xbox 360 are able to offer, that Rockstar North can take advantage of to create more traffic in order to make the settings more lifelike. Rede
I've modified the popcycle file to put hundreds of pedestrians on the streets and dozens of vehicles. It hasn't caused any additional lag but you do notice more identical people.

Secura
Yes they should fix it but they won't becuase the 360's dvd power cannot handle much more ped density then it already has, and though Blu-Ray for PS3 can handle up to 8 x more i'm told rockstar will not risk losing sales by giving one console more then the other. For PC it's fine considering that there are more then 3 different types of computure. So, sad for people on console who want more but if your using the PC then your fine, unless it's not to powerfull then you pretty much screwed, since you will have to spend money on a larger hardrive or just buy a new one for increased density, which to me seems rather worthless. Emm Ell
Let's not forget that when IV was made, RAGE/Euphoria (not certain which is relevant) was still relatively new in a GTA setting, so ofcourse it is going to see improvement over time. Finn 7 five 11
Maxo, it has taken me a while but i realized that trying to explain things to some people here is pointless since many just post their post and don't read what else has been posted already. So your efforts to tell people it's about processing power are fruitless, but its worth a try anyway i suppose.
