Otter
Metroid (NES) was a better game than any fancy-pants piece of sh*t game out today. They shouldn't even be called games. They're (somewhat) interactive movies. I truly can't tell you how much I agree with this. Elitist rose-tinted glasses bullsh*t. And if makeshyft wasn't being facetious, I'd punch him in the balls. If it doesn't theres a problem with who made the game.
Otter
I'll take a hundred GTAIVs over one Super Mario Brothers any day. I'll take a gorgeous cinematic experience over mindless platforming regardless to how iconic it is. I gave up on GTAIV about 1/3 of the way in. Metal Gear is a gorgeous cinematic experience. GTAIV was a goofy crime simulator that tried to take itself too seriously. I'd take 1000 SMB games over another GTAIV.
visionist
Call me when real-time raytracing is possible. That's when things will look incredibly realistic... although we'll need a bigger storage medium that Blu-ray discs at that time because models and textures will have to be incredibly detailed to match the amazing rendering environment. Here's a good example of how sh*tty current gen consoles are: three PS3s struggling to do real time raytracing rendering of a car model on a flat plane. Lag, lag and more lag. IBM put this together, so I'm going to assume that it's not really any software issues, although I'm sure it could be optimized a bit more. Please explain the idea of raytracing. I haven't heard of that yet. Remember that numbers and specs are meaningless to this noob. PS that Murci demonstration vid wasn't very clear to me- what is so groundbreaking about real time reflections?
E.A.B.
I hate this. Those pics look f*cking boring. I don't care for realism since it bores me to death. You guys are forgetting something; games take a lot more cash today than yesterday to make. Part of the reason is because of all the work that goes into increasing the graphics by 10%. This has several repercussions: -Developers aren't willing to take big risks on games since they cost too much to make (WAIT A SECOND, THIS SEEMS LIKE WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW!) -Developers simply rip off successful ideas and go with the flow -blah blah blah Basically, the more money companies spend to make something, the less they're willing to do riskier things. Do you know why independent films tend to be more 'out there'? Do you know why smaller budget games tend to sometimes go in a different direction? Money. The less it costs, the safer the gamble. I like it that way. I prefer to have games be games and not pumped up to block buster movie status.

Ari Gold
Graphics should always be secondary to a game's entertainment value, and that's a constant. It's possible for graphics to be a part of the experience, but you'd be a bit excessive if you bought a game just for the graphics, unless you lead a mildly-boring existence. Real life's got pretty good graphics.

Node
TBH i hate little kids who think that the Xbox 360 or PS3 is better than The PC gaming, I mean ive got nothing against the xbox or ps3 im just saying that for a xbox or ps3 its what £250 but for a top of the range gaming PC its between £1000 - £2000. So tell me how is a £250 Console going to be better than a £1000 - £2000 proper gaming system ?

Otter
Nope, totally agree with you. You just didn't happen to have a shining example. I'm afraid that most indie developers tack important sh*t - like writing, for instance, or, you know, acting talent - on at the last minute. And it's not like that sh*t's expensive - it's just outside of their sphere of influence. Which is a shame.
Robinski
TBH i hate little kids who think that the Xbox 360 or PS3 is better than The PC gaming, They are, for me. I like not having to worry about specs, drivers, hardware and the like. I like being able to buy game> put game in tray> play game. Just because one platform has more power doesn't inherently make it better, especially when all that power turns into a massive jerk off competition, as seen in all the signatures here consisting only of PC specs. But what do I know, I'm just a kid who enjoys playing his Baby'sFirstGame console.

Otter
Eh, I don't think it's about being proud of a f*cking machine. I think it's about the fact that, at least until recently, PC gaming has afforded a richer gaming experience on many levels. Sadly, that has declined with the emergence of the mainstream gamer - where all the money is being spent these days.

I'd rather download a game and have it one click away for as long as I want and not be forced to move positions when I want to take a break from a game or even have to change disks from some clunky DVD drive, not to mention not having to pay for a half assed online experience, I get dedicated servers, for free. I can go strait from playing a game to watching Youtube videos, hell I can watch Youtube videos and browse the internet while playing the aforementioned game, and have done it before. Does your precious doitalleasily Xbox come with Photoshop, or an internet browser, or dozens of comprehensive chat programs, hmm? In two clicks, right after making this post I can be playing Team Fortress 2 or Call Of Duty 4 without having moved an inch. The whole "herp derp PC gaming is a hassle and expensive" bullsh*t is played out as f*ck. The hassle is a one-time thing more or less unless you're really into it and a PC can be built for around $500 that's notably more powerful than both the Xbox and PS3 combined. |PropagandaIncorporated:|: Steam:|: DeviantArt:|: Last.FM|

Well, not everyone's a lazy geek. I'd type more regarding laziness, but I'm going to get up and get a drink because I'm thirsty. Hell, after that, I might need to urinate in case my bladder feels a little full. Of course, before I do this, I have to undertake a little activity called walking. Now, I'm in a bit of a hurry to walk since my mouth is dying for some hydrogen dichloride (H20), so I'll copy and paste a section from the Wikipedia article on walking. Walking (also known as ambulation) is one of the main gaits of locomotion among legged animals, and is typically slower than running and other gaits. Walking is defined by an 'inverted pendulum' gait in which the body vaults over the stiff limb or limbs with each step. This applies regardless of the number of limbs - even arthropods with six, eight or more limbs. If you want to read the full article, click here. It's really easy, trust me, you won't have to move an inch.
Kimd41
I believe next-gen (or next-next gen) graphics will be Vray powered. Vray2 with GPU rendering will be released this month (I think?) and I believe the GTX480/580 can render Vray at realtime but with artifacts. I wouldn't be suprised if in 2 years there would be GPU's powerfuk enought to render perfect Vray at 120+fps.
