The fact that people walk around carrying coffee cups and drinking from them, cops buy hot dogs and walk around eating/drinking. (especially the PC version, but i don't have the luxury of owning a pc good enough), but the detail on the paths and roads and buildings. even the peds. Several months ago i was riding a bike (TLAD i think) and i crashed, my bike flew across the road and hit a wall, i fell off. As i started to get up, a ped was standing LAUGHING at me. The way everything in IV is thought out - the websites are all parodying real brands, the radio, the vehicles. No other game that i've played, at least in the sandbox genre, has come close to that level of detail. The character development is brilliantly done too. Niko's backstory is compelling, and for me at least, i certainly got emotionally involved when it came to Dimitri, Peg and Darko. The reason why i rate it as the best game i've played is because of the detail, because of the well done character (ok i admit casting could have been better when it came to Niko/Roman*, but Hollick and what'shisface did a good job)and because of the story. * - i'm talking about the accents here. Free mode online is my favorite part. over 2.5 years and I still get some play in, even if just for 20 minutes, at least 4 nights a week. LC rules. It's a physics engine that is designed primarily for real-time collision and dynamics of rigid 3D bodies, ragdoll physics, and optimized collision detection. All of this is according to Wikipedia. Now, back to topic... IMO, the graphics and physics -- all of what makes GTA IV the best in the GTA series. The improved elements and features (e.g. the wanted level system) are as well a nice touch.
