[WIP|IV] RealStreetsIV text mod

Has anyone attempted this yet? It's a lot of work, considering the maps of NJ, NYC and LI that Rockstar Games made aren't exactly "paint by numbers". The biggest problem is that bridges are all in the wrong places and streets are highly simplified, but I've been changing the names of the streets to make sure of 2 things; That all streets have real names and that those streets connect to each other in real life. When I'm done, you COULD use a map and set off on a real trip though the city...albeit a short trip but that was R*'s choice. I wanted to show you my progress and ask if seeing this completed is something GTA IV gamers are interested in.

Credits:

MisterV for releasing the original real districts for the older patches. Most of the credit goes to xmen for creating the X GXT editor 2.1. Ever since patch 5, MisterV's work has unfortunately not been usable. Now I bring you most of the areas his mod had, and as a plus, All of the streets! Maybe.

This download is WIP! I've only changed lower Brooklyn and lower Manhattan, and only when driving. Character's subtitles will still include the old names, but if you want me to change them, I can do that too. One more thing, this was made for patch 7 but I need to know if it works with 5, 6 and EFLC. It will not work with 1.0.4.0, but I can also make that version if you want it.

new download(rapidshare)

12/02 - test version

12/03 - I've added better streets between Coney Island and Prospect Park and changed some major roads.

Yes, this is something I am highly interested in. Props to you for doing this, it may seem like something small to most people, but it's definitely a big task, and a useful one for any future "LC to NYC conversion" mods.

All you're doing is using GXT editor and editting american.gxt right? I could do this myself, but I have no time. Props to you for making it as realistic as possible. I'd like to use it when you're done. wink.gif

Yes anyone can modify the file and yes it is a lot of work. It's like putting a puzzle together to get all the right streets to match up. I've finished most of Brooklyn so download the file and give former Broker a spin!
