80's Vice. Tis all.

tis been done

tis worth doin again.

It's been done twice let's see something new.

Like Los Angeles on the 70s or Chicago on the 20s or London on the 60s (Also done twice I know but not in 3D)

Finn 7 five 11

now we deffinatly don't want Rockstar going back before the 70's (60's is pushing it

Whilst i think it may not be such a good idea to go back too far, mainland has a point, why not? i have not played GTA 70's or 60's yet (and neither have you) so i have no idea how good/bad it might be.

Modern day/near future.

Mainly because i like R* do satire with the present and we could still get fragments of the past like some classic cars, clothes and they refering to any given time in the Radio, internet, tv without a whole game need to be set in the past.

GTA5info.webs.com

I'd like it to be spread through multiple years, including the 80's, 90's and end in modern day. cool.gif

However, if those sites discovered recently are for the new GTA (which they most likely are), then it means there will be computers/internet in the game making meaning it has to be set somehwere between the early 2000's and modern times.

i voted for modern day and here are my reasons:

- the distant future (or medium distance future or whatever) wouldn't be gta, it just wouldn't have the gta feel with all the flying cars and robots and stuff.

-the past (1900-1940) I consider Red Dead.

-the 1990's we have already experienced in SA and LCS.

-The 1970's-80's we've had in GTA VC and VCS.

-1960's we've had in London (although we didn't really capture the whole effect)

1950 is too early to be GTA. It fits Mafia 2 best.

So the present time is the best time.

Thanks to whoever bumped this topic. I presumed this was as dead as a dodo. Some interesting replies in this thread. Personally, I would like to see GTA5 set in the modern day. I wouldn't want it to be set any earlier than SA.

1960's or earlier - no thanks, that would be Mafia, RDR or LA Noire. monocle.gif

1970's - Yes please! Some good rock n roll, some good drugs... and we haven't been there before! tounge.gif

1980's - Sure, totally sweet decade. The music, clothes... etc. cool.gif

1990's - Well... no. Not interesting enough. Couple of good radio stations probably but... no. Too much Hanson and ugly haircuts. suicidal.gif

2000's/Present - Sick and tired of it. Don't want no irritating cellphone or lame in-game computers... yawn.gif

Future - No thanks. icon13.gif

1890s - 1940s have been done by other Rockstar Games

1950s haven't happened yet

1960s have been done by the Londons

1970s haven't happened yet, but supposedly AGENT will cover this

1980s have been done by the Vice Cities

1990s have been done by San Andreas and Liberty City Stories

2000s have been done by III, Adv, and the IV era games

2010s has been done by Manhunt 2

Near future has been done by GTA2 and other Rockstar Games.

So really the 1950s and 1970s are the best eras to work in.

I would be happy with anything 50's to modern day. Having it take place in the future would be a big turn off for me. Part of what makes GTA so great is how close to reality everything is. Having the game take place in the future I guess we would have flying cars but what exactly would be playing on the radio? Their couldnt be an pop music stations because about 95% of most pop station formats are current songs that are popular today. Also you would be assuming what type of clothing people wear and what type of gangs will be around in the future. To me it just sounds like the wrong road to go down.

What about an alternate chronicle/reality? Like a steampunk future with technology from early 1900's (just steampunk). Or a world where cars have a personality and the mankind is about to die out. Or even parallelworlds with different times where you can switch betwenn these.

Okay, apart from these excessive thoughts i am for a present-day-setting or the 1970's. I highly bet on present (2010, 2011 or later).

I 100 % agree with this.

My only addition to this comment, is that I hope the next location is Vice City.

Forget that futuristic nonesense. Kill that noise

About that steampunk idea ? Kill that noise

I haven't any favorite time setting in particular, I just want the place to fit with it.

As it's called Grand Theft Auto, I don't consider any time setting before the 30s (there were cars before but it wasn't as common as it became).

-30s/40s/50s : NYC or Chicago.

-60s : London, Paris or SF

-70s : Chicago, NYC or SF

-80s : Miami or NYC

-90s : LA

-Modern : Well, any major city in Europe or USA.

When I said future, I meant like 2030, or 2040 for the VI series. Not 2200, I don't want to play Star Trek, but having a 30 year projection of America would be nice, I have faith that Rockstar would come up with good gameplay in a near future setting.

A image of vice city like this makes me want it in modern day even if its no real

The separate games like agent and la noire would cover the 40's and 70's for you guys but rockstar should stay modern day.

Just look at this pic if rockstar used rage in this modern day pic of Miami

If you want some futuristic game go play Halo, if you want some game to be set in 2019 go play Splinter Cell, if you want some game to be set in the 60s or 70s go get Mafia, oh come on, GTA must be set in the 80s, in Vice City again, otherwise it won't have feeling, plus, Rockstar always tries to utilize a social event to make a GTA, or almost always a movie:

GTA Vice City - Scarface and Miami Vice

GTA 3 - The Godfather, Goodfellas

GTA San Andreas - Boyz In Da Hood, and all the gangsters thang in the 90s

I wonder why anyone would want the next gta v to be set in the near future or some further futur

e era? These modern times have nothing to offer especially when the music of today sucks so badly (not all) but most especially hip hop. There hasn't been anything in this decade which has soo much classic reference apart from 9/11 and the recession which I think it was done briefly in iv , you don't get that feeling you get when you play sa or vc because these eras in those games have a very good atmosphere I love the 80s 70s even the 90s they were just great times the music, fashion, the way people spoke were all well done, gta really blend the eras and settings perfectly in those games. But coming to think of the modern day people really take advantage of all the technology today that it seems kinda boring to even recreate I dunno how to explain it but you get the point. Kinda like nostglia

That looks like Playstation home. GTA would be sick if it had a draw distance like that.

the room seems a bit to small, to make a good safehouse, and why would anyone want to watch TV in a video geme, only good thing about it is the view.

its probably a hotel room and also TV makes the game look more realistic because gta is always had tv in it so why would they take they feature out

medium and distance future would kill it. 1930-40s would also kill it cause of LA Noir.

anything 50s-modern 2014 is cool with me. less preferably not 80s or 90s again - but even then I'd be cool with those anyways cause it's a new GTA.
