Capcom sucks

Recommended Posts

Someone recently told me that Capcom sucks.

'Wait! Wait! Wait! What are you talking about?'

'Capcom didn't suck BEFORE. NOW, it does. They don't make games anymore, and some decisions are questionable'

So I got my typing fingers ready and knocked on my good buddy, Wikipedia's front door. The more searching I did, the more it became apparent...

CAPCOM HASN'T ACTUALLY MADE ANY GOOD GAMES RECENTLY

Dead Rising? Oh, sure, the first one. But the second one (along with Tatsunoko VS Capcom, Dead Rising 2, Street Fighter IV, Umbrella Chronicles, Megaman 9, and a couple of others) were 'co-developed' with other companies.

Capcom has also lost a LOT of good talent recently. Especially with Clover. Recently, Inafune has also jumped ship-something to do with the upper echelons not caring much about the developers and creativity.

It's sad, since they have some of my favorite franchises. I yearn to see Megaman X9 someday. I also wish SFIV wasn't so.....bad....artistically speaking. I've said it before and I will say it again; everybody is built like f*cking Zangief. Not to mention the character roster and...well, that's a seperate topic for another time.

Capcom general GO!

Mainland Marauder

Capcom rarely put out crap in its heyday. Even the lame product placement stuff (anyone remember Yo! Noid on the NES?) was fun to play in its day, and some of it holds up today like the older Mega Man games. I actually played through Mega Man 3 not too long ago after thinking about the fact that it's 20 years old this year. I remember renting that when it came out and playing through it over Thanksgiving break from school.

Then of course there was Street Fighter. And I played the first SF before there was a SFII. Proof that a good concept that failed in execution the first time can be fine-tuned into something great. Final Fight defined mindless beat-em-up fun. At the time, those were some huge player sprites.

...OK, I'm rambling now. Never mind me.

Thank you, for elaborating.

The first Resident Evil games were f*cking awesome. And nowadays? Well, not even f*cking close. The fact that Shinji Mikami didn't even want to play Resident Evil 5 after what Resident Evil 4 was, must tell you something.

Well, Bionic Commando to me was something. With all those combos and weapons with those machines that I never seen before, where you have to think and find out the weak spot of them, that took me some time indeed, with all those features, with a little open world where you could take your path in the way you like it with plenty of different environments, it was an enjoyable game. icon14.gifalien.gif

Bionic Commando was a rare case of the home version being an improvement over the arcade; it and Mega Man were early examples of going outside the set order of levels or stages that was the norm then. Nonlinear game progression was something that Capcom helped pioneer.

I'd say a new-gen Final Fight where you go around sandbox style and fight only hand-to-hand with some melee weapons would be good. Except usually when game makers resurrect an old franchise, they blow it.

Capcom was arguably the king of 8-bit NES chiptunes music. I recall games like Legendary Wings where the music was more memorable than the game itself.

The Resident Evil games are brilliant, all five. Yes people were disappointed with five but I thought It was still a good game. Apparently they are going to take about 5 years making six, come on we want one In the next 2 years.

I'd much rather developers produced a faultless game and I had to wait for it, rather than releasing a brilliant concept marred with bugs, continuity errors or missing content.

To simplify, I'd rather have a Half Life 2 than a dozen Fallout: New Vegas' or S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Clear Sky's.

Capcom has had many more good games than bad, therefore they do not suck. And even if Dead Rising 2 wasn't as good as the first, was it really bad? I haven't played it, so I wouldn't know.

It was ok.

A short lived thrill but I felt way more compelled by the Overtime mode and general story in the first one.

I like Capcom for many of their past games and also enjoyed the last installment of Resident Evil just fine.

They have a really cool, unrivaled portfolio of fun characters and artwork under their belt from the last 2 decades with maybe only SNK or Nintendo coming close but it's time they branched out and introduced something completely new and kick ass instead of trying to ride on the good name of all their past successes. I could say that for a lot of classic game developers though.

Who cares! All Japanese games suck balls anyway!

Gran Turismo, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy (mostly, ignore the MMORPGS), Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Pokémon (hell yeah!), and even Pac Man..

It's fair to say that Japan has come out with some brilliant games. I haven't heard of a brilliant Japanese game lately though (GT5 is good, but isn't genre defining).. We'll have to wait and see.

If it wasn't for the Japanese, none of us would be gamers.

I don't recall Capcom ever making a true RPG but there were plenty of games that scraped the surface of RPG-ness if you will. One that I remember was called Black Tiger and it was sort of a successor to Ghouls 'n' Ghosts but you could gather money and buy weapon/armor upgrades and other powerups. It was sort of like Ghouls 'N' Ghosts had an illegitimate child with Legend of Zelda. Don't think it ever got a console port for some reason.

Capcom Back then? Oh hell no.

Capcom Now? Meh. I dont know. Depends.

I f*cking love capcom. everyone has a favorite Capcom game. Im waiting for Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 and ive been thinking.

Why dont they just stick to platformers/ 2D fighters? Honestly 90% of capcom games for the NES we're platformers. We're they good?? oh hell yes!

Capcom today. well i havent got around to playing Dead Rising 2 yet. the First one was hella fun tho.

Final fight was hella fun and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 is still my #2 fav fighter. (Next to Mortal Kombat)

You two are missing the point completely.

This is what I'm saying; 'Capcom nowadays sucks cause they haven't made any good games recently'

Oh, sure, they've PUBLISHED several fantastic titles (I liked Tatsunoko VS Capcom), but Capcom hasn't DEVELOPED any good games recently.

There's a difference between developing and publishing. I never said Bionic Commando was bad, hell, I haven't even played it. I'm saying that a Swedish Developer made it, not Capcom.

I know what they should do make baldurs gate 3

Capcom has never made an RPG.

Breath of Fire

I'd say a new-gen Final Fight where you go around sandbox style and fight only hand-to-hand with some melee weapons would be good.

Final Fight:Streetwise

WARNING:It sucks

it's time they branched out and introduced something completely new and kick ass instead of trying to ride on the good name of all their past successes. I could say that for a lot of classic game developers though.

Capcom has actually done that quite a bit. Devil May Cry is (relatively) new, as is Dead Rising, Lost Planet, Okami, etc. They're relatively new IP's.

The problem with Capcom is that they're simply outsourcing their game development. They're relying on their IP's too much. Sure, we all want MvsC3, but they need to do more than just HADOKEN CROSSOVER #49. Hell, I actually commend them for going without Street Fighter for so long (before IV) yet still making incredibly good games (before the current Gen of consoles

I haven't heard of a brilliant Japanese game lately though (GT5 is good, but isn't genre defining).. We'll have to wait and see.

'I haven't heard of New York coming out with any good games recently'

Japan isn't a person, it's a place. Besides that, Japanese Dev's have come up with some brilliant games.

Viewtiful Joe, No More Heroes, effin

(click the damn link), the newest KOF with terrifically awesome sprites in glorious HD (it was a special treat for all lovers of 2D fighters), Bayonetta (which was Devil May Cry, except with tits), and many more.

The talent that created great Japanese games is still there, and thriving. It's just that they can't compete with the surge of new gamers that are primarily Western, and primarily purchase shooters. Japanese Dev's don't have the budgets that Western Dev's have. They don't roll out the advertising machine like Westerners (which I would assume is easy with a Western company like Microsoft which owns the world). I have seen so many commercials for New Vegas, but SFIV (which was awaited by all-casuals and hardcore alike) didn't get nearly as much advertising.

The younger crop of gamers nowadays is pretty uninformed about...a lot of sh*t. I don't mean to come off as an elitist or anything, but they don't know much about the classics-mostly developed by Jap Dev's (like, 99%). Their Master Chief is the 'old school's Mario. Similarly, my generation doesn't know of much before Mario (lol Atari f*ck is that?)

Who cares! All Japanese games suck balls anyway!

EUROPEAN AIR IS BETTER THAN AMERICAN AIR HAHAHA.

I don't understand how people make a distinction between the two. They're the same sh*t.

The only difference I see is that Westerners seem to love men that take inordinate amounts of steroids. Also bald heads. So bald.

Either way; non-gamer spotted. Any gamer worth his salt enjoys video games, not alliances. Please return your Gamer badge ASAP.

Yes of course but should they redo the whole thing? I dont think they should, they should release a new game In 2012 and then redo the whole thing for the PS4/720.
