If its simply between consoles then it’s the PS3. I don't think there's much scope for debate really but R* have stated that the PC version is the definitive version, though with the caveat of requiring a high spec machine.

The Xbox 360 version renders at higher resolution because the game was mostly developed first for the 360, not because of preference but because GTA IV development began before either the 360 or the PS3 was released, and the PS3 came out a year later than the 360. Rockstar could either work with available hardware, which was just the 360, or get nothing done until there was PS3 hardware. They didn't wait for the PS3. (Although they did delay GTA IV six extra months, probably because they needed the time to get the PS3 version caught up.)

All of Rockstars's official screenshots and trailers, that are 720p, and that are not of the PC version, are of the Xbox 360 version, because the PS3 version renders at 1152x640 and upscales to 720p, while the 360 version actually renders at 720p. Anything using RAGE, including Red Dead Redemption, has a softer, slightly less detailed image on the PS3 because of this difference.

On the other hand, Rockstar used the greater capacity of Blu-ray to render the in-game TV content of GTA IV at higher resolution for the PS3 version, so when you watch TV you can zoom in closer to the screen than you can in the 360 version.

EDIT: Another advantage for the PS3, if you buy the GTA IV Complete Edition, you get GTA IV and EFLC on one disc, because of the capacity of Blu-ray. The 360 version of the Complete Edition is two discs and so you have to switch discs to switch games.

The 360 and PS3 is a PC too

true but not entirely,a console has all the same componentes like a motherbord .cpu .ram .rom .graphics card .hdd ect. but what makes them difirent is what os it has installed .and you cann0t install w!ndows xp on a xbox 360 because it has a power pc cpu. it is possible to install l!nux on a xbox 360 and a ps3 but i think it is not worth it as it would be illegal.

I can beat you at typing in correct English, does that count?

I would say, probably, the 360 would be my system of choice simply because I think it's a bigger user base and, personally as PC gamer, I would say the 360 is the more appealing console overall. That said, I've not played either console version so I'm just speculating. I'll admit I'm biased towards the Microsoft side of things (PC, 360) and that I find the 360 controller to be more comfortable than any controller for the Playstation(s).

I doubt the PC version is the "definitive" version because, all things considered, it's an absolutely shocking port and Rockstar could, and should, have done better with it.

I pick 360 because i played the ps3 version once and its framerate was almost constantly below 30fps and I dont like the controller.

I have both versions, PS3 and 360. The 360 version is rendered at 720p, while the PS3 version is rendered at 640p.

I see no difference to my naked eye, although, the 360 version has more vibrant colours, making it look just a bit less realistic than the PS3 version.

Are the PC controls on GTA IV hard to play on? I've been thinking about getting TBoGT , but I don't know if I should get it on Xbox 360 or my PC. Does anyone know which is best? confused.gif

It's the right forum.

I have better control as using the PS3 controller.

PS3:

Lots more peds and cars on screen at once, city feels more alive because of this.

Rarely any pop-in or texture loading.

Softer and better looking shadows.

Softer look overall.

360:

Better framerate.

Pop in and texture loading is much more frequent.

Faster load time when starting the game.

Much more colourful and sharper looking.

I'm trying to decide myself.

PC:

All of the good points of both consoles, and with the modding scene there's no contest

Cynical Penguin

I've played GTAIV on both PS3 and the XBOX 360. And tbh I liked the PS3 one more, just seems to be more "smoother".

XBOX because PC has too much flaws and it always crashes. With the 360 it just goes. No problems at all.

That's a typical console vs. PC argument. Unless I had the most powerful gaming PC, I'd be thinking about whether I'd found the best settings for graphics instead of enjoying the game. Other people enjoy tinkering and options.

Yea, on the consoles you don't have to think at all. Just pop in the disc and play. On the PC, you have to work hard to get any programs to run, and the outcome is surely worth the work that you put in.
