Starman01
Hey GTA Fans, this post is my last hope, that someone can help me. I'm so much pissed off already, I cannot really tell you Like so many others, I have that stupid stuttering problem, that makes playing absolutely impossible (well, it's possible, but certainly not making fun anymore). What angers me most is this : At the beginning of the year I had a Radeon 3870 with 512 MB in my machine, and GTA and EFLC worked perfectly with very high settings (except shadow) and in 1600x1200, absolutly no stuttering. But the card burned out, and I bought a new one, this time a Radeon HD 5750, it's supposed to be faster and has 1GB of memory. Now guess what, from the day I installed the card, the game isn't working anymore. And I think it's pretty clear, that GTA is the ONLY game that suffers from the new card. I'm completly lost now. I tried several mem restrictions, installed many times, tried many of the few still on my HD existent Catalyst Drivers , and tried several game patching versions, but NOTHING creates effect. The game stutters. Even more annoying, it always starts stuttering at EXACTLY the same game time. It's really obvious, that the game starts to load data in the GPU memory, and once it's full, has a problem to remove it and replace with new stuff smootly like it did on my old card Everytime I start a new game, it works well. I drive out of the harbor, turn right, drive up the small hill and close before the cab depo the stuttering begins, and never stops. (Same reaction with EFLC). So it's pretty obvious that this is nothing more than a f*cking memory leak. I just don't get it, why a card with half the memory had absolutly no problems. When I lowering settings, it just takes a few seconds longer until the stuttering starts. Also visible, when the stuttering as started, even the menu I enter with "Esc" is stuttering, including the mouse mover, the system is completly lagging Has anyone an idea, what else I can do ? Is it possible to safely disable 512 MB on my videocard, or maybe different drivers, hacks, what ever ? I don't want to forfeit these excellent games, just because the rockstar guys are not capable of porting their console crap the right way. Sorry for being rude, I'm just so disappointed that I "lost" this game, and I want it back My current system config is this : Dual Core E8400, 2x 3,2 Ghz Win XP SP3 4 GB RAM Radeon HD5750 Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Any help and suggestions are appreciated. mkey82
Did you install a fresh OS after ugrade? Which settings are you using? Use memrestrict. Make sure your system is not overheating while playing GTAIV.
Starman01
Install newest ati video drivers, but dont install catalyst control centre Hey there, I just have to say one thing !!! @Pegi, I f*cking love you !!!!! It's unbelievable, it was the Catalyst Control Center that was causing the stuttering problem, what a huge pile of crab. Certainly the last time, I have installed that. The game is running now extremly smooth, even without any commandline at all. I play in 1600x1200 with high textures, far view sight, I just turned down the shadows. The game (GTA4) has now unfortunately a habbit to crash, but I rather take that into account, as long as I can play. Maybe it's also because I installed the latest patch. I'm reinstalling EFLC right now and check, if this works as well (then I can go havok with the APC again ) So now, after many months, I finally have my anti-stress game back to remove myself of any angry emotions. Yes, it's not Games that make you go mad, they help keeping you sane by unloading your stress (and what's better for getting rid of stress than running over a few dozend walking peasant and have fun watching them fly ) So, thanks a lot, and maybe make the comment with the removal of CCC more public !!
