Very weird issue with Dvd writer and GTA discs

Recommended Posts

I had one DvD writer die when I was playing GTA IV and had the disc in the drive all the time. The DvD writer stopped reading all discs. Not saying it is connected, but it was weird.

Got a new DvD writer a Samsung Sh-s233C this time I kept it up to date with firmware and everything.

The Dvd-writer is working fine. I tested numerous dvd's, games, movies, cd's etc. Successfully burned a dvd. All working fine.

The only discs it can't read though is GTA IV and EFLC. It was working fine for the most part but occassionally the disc would not read. Occassionaly the disc would read (ie. can see the title in My Computer) but a Securom message would pop up saying that I needed the original disc. I bought both GTA IV and EFLC in original packaging and they are legitimate discs, registered, verified online - everything. Was having problems again this morning with the Securom message and saw I could update the firmware for the DVD again. After the update the drive can't read the GTA or EFLC discs at all.

I thought about disabling stuff like Daemon tools just in case there is some weird SecureRom conflict going on - Still nothing.

I don't think it is the drive this time since I have tested numerous other dvd's and cd's. It is only the four discs of GTA IV and EFLC together not working.

I therefore do not think it is the discs either. All of them were working fine at various times. I do wonder if this is Securom related.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

What version of the game you have (retail, steam, other online store)? Retail

What is your OS: Windows Vista Ultimate Sp2

Sometimes, just disabling virtual drive softwares like Daemon Tools does not work. I remember one time when I had to uninstall Alcohol 120% because it was causing conflict with another application. Try uninstalling Daemon Tools completely.

Also, just to be very sure that the discs are fine, try them on another PC (if you have one or try it on your friend's PC).

Thank you! smile.gif

I tried completely removing DaemonTools and it did not help. Will still go and test the discs on another pc once I have the oppurtunity.

I contacted Samsung technical support and Take2's as well. Have not heard anything back though.

Thank you for the help.
