OKSPADT
I decided first to ask is it possible to make mods with Steam version of GTA IV? And if it is possible, there will be more questions ahead: I have noticed that there are two folders in GTA IV folder, common and pc folders which contain data, maps files etc. I'm new in the modding and I don't understand what are the differences between common and pc folders? And i liked the try modding, so should i take backup for the both folders? I don't know anything about those two folders. I don't even understand why there is two of them which contain same folders (like data, maps).
TheTomster
If you have no idea what you are doing, do some research first. Don't just jump right in, because modding just might not be for you. And Steam IV seems fairly unmoddable, as most people in the past have shown, at least ENB series (ultimate graphics) doesn't work with the steam version. There's no harm in backing up both folders, although be aware that they include some large files (pc\audio\Sfx\speech.rpf is 1.49 GB). You should, at the very least, take backups of each and every file you intend to modify.
dme
I've never done any modding before... mainly because I've never had a computer that would play games good enough. Well I finally invested in building a very nice gaming computer and want to buy and mod GTA IV. So I'm guessing buying the retail version would be the way to go instead of steam? It costs more on Steam anyway.
