Osric
Should they do a GTA MMO? I know this is a hot topic and is highly debated, but I'm wondering if they were to make an MMORPG based off of GTA, how would YOU do it? Here's my idea.... Base it in the III Canon, to please the III fans and give some closure. Keep making regular GTA games in the IV Canon. Also, due to the immense size of GTA IV's Liberty City, you'd only be able to keep it in Liberty City, unless you made Vice City and the San Andreas cities smaller and less detailed, that is. Plus, the GTA team said they were done with IV's Liberty City for the time being. Give full character customization. Players can choose the race, gender, and age of their avatar. (I know people will be upset with a female avatar, but you should still have the option for those who want to play a female). Players can buy safehouses, weapons, vehicles, and clothes for their character. Make cops playable, to give a general alignment feel similar to World of Warcraft's Alliance and Horde, and the short-lived APB, which looked promising, but couldn't support itself in this economy. With new technology, you can add more detail into the cities. That way more places are accessible. The default city should be Liberty City. Then, add Vice City, San Andreeas, Carcer City, and Capital City as DLC/Expansion stuff, with new gangs and such. Add Carcer City and Capital City, as both have been mentioned in GTA III Canon on the radio. Capital City is an obvious copy of Washington DC, but I think Carcer City would be good as Chicago or Detroit, somewhere in the Midwest. I never really played Manhunt, so I may be wrong in depicting Carcer City. Similar to how World of Warcraft's's Alliance and Horde have races within the factions(Note, I have never played WoW, but I have read about it), do the same thing with gangs for Criminals and police departments for Law Enforcement. These would be the Criminal Gangs playable at the start. (It'd change with different cities) 1. Leone Family (Leader: Toni Cipriani) 2. Triads (Leader: Unknown) 3. Diablos (Leader: El Burro) 4. Yakuza (Leader: Yuka Kasen) 5. Yardies (Leader: King Courtney) 6. Cartel (Leader: Unknown) 7. Southside Hoods (Leader: D-Ice) These would be the Law Enforcement groups... 1. Avenging Angels/Vigilantes 2. LCPD 3. SWAT 4. CRASH 5. FBI 6. Army 7. CIA/NSA (The group Mike Toreno belongs to) While I know the real Yakuza doesn't allow women, this is GTA, where Asuka became leader of the Yakuza after Kenji died, and Yuka Kasen's really the only Yakuza-associated character in the GTA III canon who isn't dead. At least with the Leones, while Salvatore Leone is dead, it's safe to assume that Toni or possibly Joey has taken control of the Mafia, while the Cartel and Yakuza leadership is a question mark. Also, everyone starts off with one vehicle. For criminals, it's their gang car, and for law enforcement, it's a police cruiser for LCPD, SWAT, and CRASH, a Freeway for the Avenging Angels, a black Kuruma or Rancher for the FBI, a Patriot for the Army, and a black Sentinel for the CIA. Anyway, there's my ideas, how would YOU do a GTA MMO? Edited November 26, 2010 by Osric
uNi
It has been proven already that it works, and works pretty well. There's a lot of RP servers around that are doing that.

The game even had one of the original guys behind the series with them, and still the failed. MMO's never pays of for a developer/publisher. They are way to expensive, and so far only Everquest and WOW has actually made money, everything else has cost the publisher millions of dollars and many many years of development time. uNi
IPB is really a BAD example to see if it would work imo, the game is pretty sh*tty.
