Yup the guy who inspired Omar died a few years ago in 2012 Donnie Andrews. He was actually on the show and part of Omar's crew.

I read The Corner, a lad they shadowed in it ended up playing mouzones bodyguard, he was just a street kid from baltimore. And yeah a lot of the wire was based on real people, events, such as donnie escaping by jumping out of a window

fantastic show, imo on another level to most of the big series. Im also a convert to season 2 as mr pink was saying, at first it threw me off but going back its almost my favourite..poor frank..and ziggys 'ending' was superbly acted.

it's based on real sh/t because the guy who created the series took most of it from his old job.

David Simon worked for the Baltimore Sun paper covering the police homicide division and narco task force.

he wrote 2 books about his experiences which became the basis for The Wire and the HBO miniseries The Corner.

Yeah HBO likes to share it's actors around on it's shows.

It was pretty weird seeing the actors who played Herc and Wee Bey on Entourage lol

herc and daniels too? dont remember but i dropped it after bout 5 series, just became monotonous and just bloody depressing in general. Had a good few seasons though and obviously pioneered all the great shows that came after it.

has anyone saw the wire musical.....felicia pearson in a dress, omar singing songs about omar stuff,,its pretty bizarre

Just re-watching The Wire now, it's brilliant, especially when you leave it a few years and watch it over, it's like you almost forget how good it is. Easily my favourite series after The Sopranos.

Did you find that topic? I'd love to talk about The Sopranos ending.

And I didn't hear about The Wire musical. Bizarre. I'm not a fan of musicals though. :(

This is pretty cool if you are wanna get your Wire nerd-on. I do remember someone meticulously made a Google Maps-style The Wire map with locations and pin-points to locations that occurred in scenes.

we've talked about the Sopranos ending at length before.

if you guys want to talk about it again, we can, but it'll just be one big spoiler tag after the next. you can't really talk about the ending properly without spoiling some key aspects of the series previous seasons.

also, here's this...

I re-upped HBO Now for GoT and since there's so few quality series running right now, I've been rolling through The Wire again. I hit season 4 yesterday and this sh*t made me literally laugh out loud.

Such a good show.

E - I had to rehost this due to stupid embedding rules so if it doesn't work, it's the S4E1 intro.

I remember being sorry when the original run of The Wire ended. I think most had a different favorite character. I'm watching Power now, which is pretty good.

Yeah I started Power and found it quite enjoyable. I must continue on with it. It's on Netflix UK.

Has anyone seen this amazing trailer for The Wire? It's for their HBO Go or something. It's really great.

Just finished up watching this show for the first time, can honestly say it's the best tv show i've ever seen, so good that I just started rewatching it as soon as I finished it.

Season 2 I thought was surprisingly good considering the somewhat mixed reviews, even better on a rewatch. Season 4 I think is the best and 5 was the only one I didn't think was great.

The Wire would also make for an excellent inspiration for a GTA game.

Glad you enjoyed it and Season 2.

Yeah, I've thinking how great a GTA game set in Baltimore could actually be amazing or at least a GTA inspired by The Wire. I think if they could do that and take a step towards a serious story again like IV's story but have fun gameplay stuff to do as well, it could make for the best GTA yet. Also, another late 90's or early 00's game could be cool.

For anyone that hasn't seen it but is curious...

59, that's so young. An awful amount of actors in The Wire have worryingly died prematurely.

He was only 59? I thought he was older. Very concerning though Robert Chew died, Deandre McCullough, Donnie Andrews...

Is this The Guy?

So this book just came out. Its looks interesting and Im looking to get it

https://www.avclub.com/all-the-pieces-matter-delivers-a-fascinating-oral-histo-1822837008/amp

Theres a section of Jonathan Abrams All The Pieces Matter: The Inside Story Of The Wire about the blink-and-youll-miss-it scene in which the Wire character deputy commissioner of operations William Rawls (John Doman) appears at a gay bar. Doman kept wondering whether that reveal would lead to a major plot arc for the character but it never did. In his brilliance, he never touched it again He just dropped that little seed in there, Doman said of the shows creator David Simon.

All The Pieces Matter is filled with nuggets like this, tantalizing anecdotes about the dynamics of the shows cast and crew that feel like they could be the subject of full chapters or even another book. Just one chapter contains stories about Wendell Pierce and Dominic West taking a young Michael B. Jordan to a strip club for character research and the actors judging a pretty pussy competition, before transitioning to a fascinating glimpse at their living arrangements. Seth Gilliam and Domenick Lombardozzi decided to rent an apartment together in hopes the closeness would give them the camaraderie needed to realistically portray partners Carver and Herc on screen and wound up playing marathon sessions of Madden with whoever dropped by. Meanwhile Clarke Peters, who seemed to embody his character, Lester Freamon, bought a five-bedroom house and rented it to actors who shared his distaste for television and enjoyed sitting around reading, painting, and playing music. All of these stories beg for follow-up questions, but Abrams quickly moves on.

You know I always wondered if they ever planned to do anything with that Rawls scene and now I know. If I remember correctly they were looking for Omar in a gay bar and dude flips out and causes a small scene leaving and when the crowd clears thats when you see Rawls sitting at the bar laughing. Definitely looks like its worth a read Edited by That Guy There

This is from a gag reel

Maybe they were planning to do something with Carcetti's advisor and Rawls?
