Mainland Marauder
What would GTA be like if everybody didn't forget your crimes the instant you escape? I've long wondered that and RDR gave us a taste of what it might be like. It always struck me as a bit preposterous, particularly in IV, how you can get three stars and the police choppers are out in force, but you get outside that circle for a few seconds and they call off the dogs. An honor/respect type system could be extended to basically give you two or more storyline paths based on whether you play it straight (i.e. the way you play RDR if you're making an effort not to do things that lower Marston's honor rating) or you go all out as a ruthless, don't-give-a-sh*t criminal and you shoot everyone in sight. Maybe one day we might look at RDR as having laid the groundwork for that, where your actions in freeroam can affect what happens over the course of the game. Of course, perhaps there could be an option to disable it for those who find it obtrusive, if temporarily. Finn 7 five 11
I personally don't think GTA 5 should be wasting memory and processing resources on animals when most of the buildings in GTA are nothing more then impenetrable geometry. It would seem making more internal environments would have a greater impact on the game or better human AI that gives more complex response. That is a great idea, more accessible interiors would be great. I think gun fights were too easy in gta, i don't like FPS games so much i prefer GTA greatly, but it would be cool to have a few guns with FPS in a gun fight (just for fun) or have a FPS option for when you want to have a gun fight. Same goes for hand to hand combat, i want that to be awesome. Bullet time, that would be incredible but only for when you have to shoot and drive, you get 5 seconds of super slow mo to kill dudes (in FPS) then its over, and it takes a while to regenerate, that would make the game so much deeper. Minor details such as stab wounds and such, i don't really care for, maybe some blood in the face after being beaten, and some swelling (haha) but aside from that it doesn't bother me. Not all of this post belongs here i might copy paste some of it to the wishlist.
Tyler
I'm not sure people realise what they're asking for with more interiors. Think about it like this - Your city is wholly enter-able (You can go anywhere), yet, does any of it seem fun for the most part? Now imagine that mundane interior in a game. It's either that or extremely similar interiors everywhere. Your choice... (Then again there is the option to just be happy with the amount of interiors Rockstar puts already)

Even in IV, which had a reasonable amount of interiors, it was either identical to another or pretty much an empty shell. Maybe more 'specific' interiors, like the Lawyers place and the baseball team guys place in IV?
Official General
I definitely think that Red Dead Redemption contains a good few gameplay elements that the next GTA game could use for improvement from GTA IV. Here is a list of things from RDR that that I would like to see in the next GTA: * I want to see more random stuff from peds happening in the next GTA. In the rough areas of a city or area, I wanna see stuff going on in the streets that is not connected to the player - like seeing peds getting robbed, mugged, car-jacked, or they might be holding up stores or cargo vehicles, stealing cars, selling drugs, gambling, fighting, brawling, getting into gunfights and shoot-outs with each other. The peds invloved in the criminal acts can be a nice mix of common street criminals and gang members. RDR did this quite well. * I'd like to see the random side missions or activities seen RDR turn up again in the next GTA game, but this time rather than be fully optional, there should be some of them implemented in a way that is forced upon the player in certain situations. For instance, players maybe doing some drug-dealing and might sometimes themselves in a set-up by either being robbed by shady customers or being busted by undercover police officers in a sting operation - these situations would require the player to shoot or fight his way out of the mess. Or players might engage in gambling, like a card or dice game, win and might sometimes be pursued by the loser (s) who will try to kill them and get their money back, and the total winnings. The rest of the random side missions can stay similar to what is seen in RDR, like some stranger asking a player to help him/her, do something for them, get this or that, or save him/her. * I liked the fact that in RDR there was a nice variety of activities to do to gain money, like gambling and hunting animals to sell their skins. In the next GTA, I'd like to see a similar situation (although I'd leave out the hunting in GTA). The next GTA could do with stuff like illegal card and dices games and bookmakers for players to play and gamble their money on. I'd also like to see a similar bartering system like there is in RDR with the selling animal skins and meat for cash feature. In the next GTA, this could be replaced by players being able to rob a jewellery store and other vaulable goods stores, or hijack goods vehicles of their cargo to sell it on to a fence or pawn shop for money. A drug-dealing mini-game is also much needed in the next GTA to add more variety. The treasure hunt challenge feature in RDR can be replaced in the next GTA in the form players getting information from a source and going to a location to rob a building, drugs stash-house/apartment or a wealthy mansion. The ability to rob banks and general stores should also come back. * I would like to see animals in the next GTA, but ONLY if the map will contain large areas of wilderness and remote countryside. For instance if its based in Vice City/Florida, there could be dense swamps with alligators and other land animals, or coastal marine life like sharks and dolphins. However I would not want to see a hunting feature in GTA, as there is in RDR. I dont think GTA really needs that kind of thing, its not that type of a game in my eyes. Although maybe a mini-fishing game might be quite interesting for Vice City game. * Not seen RDR, but in the next GTA I would like to see the protagonist being able to swim underwater, just like in San Andreas, but with more much marine life and more detail with stuff like coral reefs (especially if its Vice City-based). Players maybe be able to stay underwater for much longer if equipped with diving gear and an oxygen tank that have to be obtained from somewhere. Diving underwater should also pose a risk of various dangers, like shark attacks. A mini-game of diving for lost or stolen loot and drugs sunk in the sea could go down quite well. * More explorable interiors are important for open-world games like GTA, it makes the world the player is in, feel less restricted. If there is a purpose for them being explorable, then its all the better.

That would strain the amount of resources they have. Such a feat will not likely be possible until they have more power and potentially algorithms to generate urban interiors which would offload asset creation onto the computer( diablo does this with dungeons and minecraft is using this for rudimentary wilderness environments made of cubes(are we about to see teh death of ID tech 5 engine before its' even introduced?), i think there is even a program that uses an algorithm to make realistic trees so development assets can concern themselves with other things). What i'm interested in is more interiors where firefights can happen or that you can use to escape police detection or air better, like grocery stores with multiple exits, office lobbies apartment complexes that allow for some room accessibility and leaping from a catwalk to adjacent buildings. Buildings grant you the strategy of funneling targets into smaller fire zones so you can dispatch or atleast suppress their movement(given risk-averse AI) and would give you an additional strategy for dealing with cops. The hospital in GTA has a significant interior but its' a cull-de-sac and you get pinned down in there. Some of the coolest interiors have more then one entrance. But no i would never call for every building to have internal geometry and textures not for a decade atleast, just more.
NinjaWJ
i like the thing about animals if the map allows it however i don't think dead eye should be in the game because the game could end up being too easy

I'm pretty sure nobody said that. I'm sure someone just asked for more expolrable interiors, but not for every building. I agree with having more explorable interiors. In GTA IV, I was a little disappointed that I could not enter and explore the 24-7 local grocery/convenience stores, the Bean Machine cafes, the pharmacies, the local banks, the police stations, the courthouses, more other nightclubs and restaurants. I reckon that Liberty City in GTA IV would have felt more like a living and breathing place than it does now, if it had more interiors to explore. Plus if you were able to also rob and burglarize some of the stores and buildings, that would have been a great addition. It would also have been good to have some more explorable interiors in some of the apartment blocks to see things happening like drug activity, prostitution and all other shady stuff at all times. I think a place like Liberty City could have done with all of this.

Well my comment was to user "unoriginal", specifically the "Your city is wholly enter-able (You can go anywhere), yet, does any of it seem fun for the most part? Now imagine that mundane interior in a game." comment Having buildings you can enter that are nothing but a void w/ interior wall textures would indeed be pointless Having every interior with internal geometry will probably not be viable for a decade because i think the interiors of houses, office buildings, groceries etc will largly be created by an a set of instructions meant to create realistic and intelligently designed urban interiors. The technology seems to exist but is in a very primitive state not just for reasons that its' new but because rendering environments and making them just doubles teh tasks of the computer rather then how computers just render them now. implicit in my original statement was that these environments would be realistic and the avatars would interact with them as they do in the hospital or at the food vendors in 4. Patrizio
I think on the issue of interiors, am I correct in saying there were only TWO models of interiors for safehouses/buildings in GTA IV? The basic long and thin, multi storey one, such as the Broker and South Bohan safehouse, and the second the slightly wider, with unusable elevator/life, such as Playboy X's apart. and the safehouse by the river? Obviously there was the basic hospital, Burger Shot, Lawyers place etc. But having no explorable police station, supermarket etc should very much be changed. Its unreasonable to suggest EVERY building have an explorable interior, especially as they would be bland and mundane and all the same, but it is reasonable to hope and suggest that there are at least 5 models of safehouse/building in GTA V that can be altered and played around with! On topic: I REALLY believe the countryside will return in GTA V. If we remember it was initially going to appear in GTA IV in the form of Liberty State, but was obviously removed and featured heavily in RDR and most definitley worked. It was also a feature that many GTA fans, including myself, sorely missed. If GTA V takes place in Vice City, then I firmly believe it will be a Flordia-esque state with the everglades as countryside OR a three-state system like in RDR. cactus.
Exactly, especially for a Vice-city based environment. In addition to everglades, the ocean itself would obviously play a huge role as well. Not only the iconic animals of florida and sea (crocodile, flamingo, shark, dolphin, manatee, etc.), but also many different species of fish would really contribute a great deal to the "aura" of such a setting. And although I agree with you on not having "hunting" per se in the game, I think fishing would be a prime example of "nice variety of activities to do to gain money," as would a plethora of other minigames like dice, poker, (sports betting perhaps?). Something as simple as fishing off the piers at first and selling the meat to the local fish markets for extra cash in order to get more guns/ammo. and later in the game assuming you get your hands on a yacht, you could do more deep sea fishing - perhaps in tournaments - for the bigger fish, which yield more money. Such activities don't have to be necessary at any point, but just there to enjoy and take advantage of. The bartering system is great as well, but I can't see nor want fish meat to dominate the inventory. I think drugs would be ideal for it, perhaps guns and ammo too (this would work well if the theft missions are brought back, but that's another topic!). As for Dead Eye, having such incredible accuracy with the gun is uniquely germain to the "western sharp shooter" themes of the wild west, and therefore appropriately fit well into RDR, in my opinion. But GTA doesn't seem to embody the same culture, but more so the thug-on-a-mission who can be strong and destructive, but not necessarily a good shot. But Dead Eye is fun nonetheless. It can have it's place in a GTA game without exactly being part of the game (i.e. not part of basic gameplay). I think the effects of certain drugs should allow the character to willingly enter a "bullet time" mode or slow motion, like it was in the III-era games.
