MartinBond
Hi all. Yes, i'm a newbie and i'm immediately asking questions, witch a can, bcause i'm a newbie So, here it goes: For my first ever project, i want to make a slightly more detailed version of Vice City's Perennial: The Perennial. Most hated car cince 2001, except for me ^^. Now, seemingly as one of the few I accept the fact that i'm a newbie and that i simply cannot achieve something like OP's fantastic work on GTA III's cars, but still, if I can get it to be a bit less "squary" at the wheel arches, resize the "logo" on the back and make the Texture around the front headlights a bit less square, I'd be véry happy. Problem is, I just downloaded Zmodeller so I dont have a clue what the h*ck i'm doing: Loaded the Peren.DFF into ZModeller. Question is: what now? or better: - Is it a reasonable challenge for a newbie to edit an existing DFF instead of building your own, - Is it reasonable to think anyone on this forum is gonna take the time to explain it to me? Thanks for reading, I hope someone get's incredibly bored someday and will reply
coin-god
1) Its reasonable 2) Its not reasonable I don't use Zmod, I use 3D Studio Max. But Im sure that there must be plenty of Zmodeler tuitorials out there, you could search them in google and look into the basics of the program. MartinBond
Right, so basicly for a newbie it's better to start in 3DS max? I'm very mutch willing to learn, don't get me wrong. At the moment, i'm just klicking buttons and see wat they do, as I find the best way to learn something is to do is yourself

But 3D MAX is much better option because it has more support for modding, and its an overwall better program. You choose what you think will be easier for you. And then just start looking for tutorials in google. Basic stuff, and then start looking into more advanced stuff.
RanxeroX
Everything Goin-god told you about 3ds-Max is true however if you want to stick with Zmodeler to learn the ropes, that's your choice. If you do, you can find a number of basic and advanced tutorials on the Zmodeler home site www.zmodeler2.com. Just thought I'd point this out as it's quicker than sifting through Google searches. BTW, there's also a free alternative to 3ds-Max called GMax that's the equivalent of 3ds-Max v4. With it you can import/export vehicles for Gta games. You just need to add a set of scripts for it to work with the Gta series (called Kam's scripts). It's not without it's own bugs & quirks but if you want to eventually move up to 3ds-Max, it's a good training tool.
