I know a lot of people have probably said this before... but the best is GTA: Vice City (IMO). Everything is just right in that game, the atmosphere, dialogue, soundtrack etc. The list goes on. And they got the 80s theme perfect... and I love the 80s, I just wish I was born earlier so I could grow up then.

San andreas and chinatown wars are the best but i choose san andreas. gta 4 is third.

Original GTA4 found it more enjoyable then TBogT in terms of realism. Gangs or even organized crime do not have access to AA-12, Walther WA2000, FNH P90...etc Granted Desert Eagle was not a realistic appearence in GTA4 as I was expecting .45ACP at most in a pistol.

id choose gta iv for the storyline and tbogt for free roam.because it lo0ks to me as if they put allot more colour into liberty city for tbogt .everything is so rich in colour !

San Andreas

 

Since 2005 when I first played it, I think it is the best game of all time. The best things about the game is that the world/state is so big and the game has so many good and new features.

 

GTA III is second.

GTA SA is my choice, though the graphics are outdated it's still fun to play. I love the gameplay and everything which you could do, GTA 4 just felt like a big pile of eyecandy.

 

Although GTA 4 was fun to mess around in, it needed a trainer to have some real freeplay fun, and that glitched everything up.
