*SCARY*Abandoned FunFair After The Katrina in New

shall I repost this?

That woman that did trips in Prypiat

From what I've heard the roads have low ammounts of radiation, and as explained there, some places even have less radiation than your standard European City...

However when you venture offroad or inside places that had open windows during the disaster, you're probably getting too exposed...

Besides radiation doesn't care of your cancer rate, does it? afaik it should have pretty much the same (high) chances of causing cancer... But that is the least of your worries if you go there... radiation poisoning kills quicker...

Radiation poisoning is actually relatively difficult to get. You need exposure levels of about 4-6 Greys to major organs to result in a 50% chance of death, which equates to a seriously high amount of radiation. The ambient radiation level of water in somewhere like the UK is about 5000 Becquerels per litre. I can't find any half-decent conversion charts (mainly due to the fact that Greys and other measures of radiation absorbtion are completely unrelated to levels of exposure) but in terms of pure energy transfer 5 greys is about 20mg of sugar, as pure energy. I know that's not very helpful, but it's a large exposure of very high powered radiation for a prolonged period of time (well above that of say, commercial x-ray machines). It varies due to isotope and method of affect, though. For example swallowing Polonium in any meansurable amount will kill you outright, whereas being exposed to something like Cobalt-60 or even Caesium 137 (like in the case of the Goiânia incident) won't nessesarily result in death (in the latter, a number of people were exposed to more than 74 trillion Becquerels (so the cumulative dose of 14.8 billion litres of water) of radiation for a period of over an hour without being killed).

That said, the effects of radiation, particularly penetrating Gamma radiation or ingested alpha radiation, do accelerate growth in cells of the body; accelerated growth increases the likelihood of uncontrollable or irregular growth, which is essentially what cancer is. However, gamma level radiaton around Prypiat is quite low, and alpha radiation gets stopped by a sheet of paper, let alone your skin, so you'd have to swallow it for it to have any effect.

Oh, and it's widely believed that Elena Filatova/KidOfSpeed is actually a hoaxer, who took all the pictures on a guided tour, not a supposed high-speed clandestine motorbike ride through the deserted streets.

good to know I wasn't the only one thinking of Dark Carnival...

Anyways, walk into the Red Forest and you WILL have more rad poisoning than a lifetime supply of medicine will be able to cure (Why didn't anyone research Rad Away yet?)

Besides if you eat any dust particle there by accident you're effed, alpha and beta radiation isn't stopped so easily when it's already inside you, so a dust storm would be a cancer summoning...

Then again, I'll say that my knowledge on radiation is what my memory still retains from the last time I read that kiddofspeed article plus some school classes that I don't remember well... So yea...

lol.gif Nobody seemed to notice that! Pretty funny!

Ontopic: That tour video was great. I like creepy places myself, dark places. My yard looks creepy at a night with full moon since I have a big tree in the back, the branches look creepy.

Actually I do want to go, a lot. Next time I'm on the bike in Eastern Europe I might go down. Not on the bike obviously, but on a proper tour.

The rad stuff got drummed into me when I worked for DSTL. I'm not sure if I remember it all properly, as it was a while ago and I wasn't paying attention, but I didn't get radiation poisoning at the AWE facility in Aldermaston so I must have done something right...

If I was one of those people that used quotes in their sig. I would use this one tounge.gif

OT:

I have forever been fascinated with Pripyat. The whole story starting from conception of the city is just great.

I stumbled on the stills of the NO six flags a bit ago. The video was nice. Why was the guy so amazed with the swings? It seemed like a 3 minute shot.

Some nice abandoned parks in Japan and other Asian countries.

Just a few samples. The front page of This Site has a bunch of great photos.

There is something strange about radiation anyway, scientific stuys showed thet the animals which live in the off-limits area don't realy show any anomalys which you might thought of. Martins which come to this area to raise the offspring in summer have to face the following: their kids will most likely develop two tail fethers with differnt lenghtes which makes them unable to fly percisly which leads to a higher number of dead squabs than normal whereas the martins from closer areas don't have to worry about this like they already developed a limited immunity. It looks similiar to other animals of this area and examinations showed that there isn't a noteable differnce in the social behaviour or physical properties of individuals from the 'contaminated' areas and thise which live far away.

Furthermore there are still people living in the area, who came back two years after the contimination and they're fine... in fact the whole nature is developing fine in the whole area and the mutations found in plants and animals were very often quite harmless.

Also the myth of the so many mutated babys is only a myth, in fact the number was quite manageable and only mostly only occoured in a limited time periode.

I think Six Flags is missing out on a unique opportunity.

There's a report I've read that suggests that Chernobyl only related in around 50 deaths in total. Not sure how true it is, but it is the case that apart from the Liquidators, very few people were directly affected.

The only really noticable effect has been the Red Forest- where much of the equipment used in the cleanup got dumped. There have been reported cases of gigantism in various plans, intake of radioisotopes has caused most of the trees to have brown leaves (from memory caesium-137 contamination in the groundwater) and various animals becoming albino. No mutants, no real reports of increased birth defects in people living near the NPP either.

Hi friends, did you know about that? I know Katrina happened some years ago, but this amusement park was abandoned after the hurricane, it's so scary, it's worst than Prypiat Funfair! It's strange since 2005 it is totally abandoned!

Looks better than Detroit.

And there's a lot of abandoned homes, too. They're pretty much old-style buildings, no windows, some of them probably used as crack houses. This one is practically collapsing after years of neglect.

I did notice they had to get permission from the city to film there but later on I did consider just how much creepier this place must look at night or at sunset. Would love to see that.

It's just a factory. And the ghosts are just the bouncers from the nearby strip club.

I feel so sorry for those poor people in New Orleans. I still remember seeing the footage of bodies floating face down in the flood waters.

Is the city actually a ghost town now? Do people still live there?

Of course people still live there. However it is miles away from what it used to be, and probably never be the same again.

I used to live in New Orleans and left after Katrina. I went to Six Flags there alot, and walked the same paths in OP's video, and went on those exact rides. Seems weird to look at that video now and think that I was there not so long ago, but I haven't been back since I left so I know many things have change. I'm sure you'd find plenty of abandoned buildings and parks like those
