Sniper rifle bug leads to crash

Recommended Posts

Well that's one nasty bug I encountered. Everytime I use any weapon outside the sniper rifle, it goes on well, as usual, but if I use the sniper rifle, and aim with it, the game just disappears within a few seconds/minutes (it just happens randomly, sometimes I can shoot dozens of bullets, others it crashes as soon as I look in the scope) - no crash message, as if I just minimized it, but it has indeed crashed as if the game's process spontaneously died since I can't find it on the process list and has disappeared from the bottom bar.

Note: each time it happens, the windows context menu pops up, as if I randomly right-clicked on my desk and as if Windows took no account at all that I was full-screen.

For your information, it first happened WITH a heavily modded game at first, which is my regular install, but it also happened WITHOUT mods, on a complete vanilla install I keep as backup. Each time with the same odd process closing and menu opening.

My specs:

GeForce FX 5200 128 MB

Windows XP Service Pack 3 (and don't tell me to use Vista or 7, it's NOT gonna happen)

1024 MB RAM

Way enough disk space available

No virus detected

2x GTA San Andreas version 1.0 from the box, so no downgrading needed. (one is modded and I play on it regularly, another one is installed on a different drive and is completely fresh, unmodded and untouched, and is used for backup purposes to avoid reinstalling)

What should I do? It happens whatever my install is, modded or vanilla, it oddly happens ONLY with that weapon and ONLY when I use the first-person eye-in-scope view. Is there a bugfix for that? Should I reinstall the game even though it didn't happen on my vanilla install?

Okay, nevermind that problem, please close this thread. I have found the solution.

Thx Ryosuke for creating the SA Save Editor. I'll just use a backup, vanilla file and copy all my stats. It's a process I call "Save forwarding" or just "repairing". I forward my stats (and only my stats) from my old file to the new using the save editor, and I continue playing, on a, data-wise, fresh save, but stats-wise, I continue playing my old save safely.
