DVD Install Requests "Disc 3"

Recommended Posts

I am attempting to install GTA San Andreas, Second Edition for the second time. The first (successful) install was a few years ago onto another older hard drive. Now after a successful installation of of Windows 2000 (SP4) onto a new larger hard drive (350 Gb), I've been successfully installing my preferred software systems as well as the favorite computer games. smile.gif

But for this installation when the (only?) DVD is used, the install proceeds as usual; but there is a delay when a pop-up says "Please insert Disk 3 that contains the file: audio\STREAMS\AA". Choosing the "Browse" option, I find the "audio\STREAMS" file on the DVD, but no AA file is found. the pop-up refuses the selected "audio\STREAMS" folder on the DVD. The only other option provided is Cancel Install. So I cancel. confused.gif

Since I've just moved, I'll recheck my memory---There is only one DVD in the GTA San Andreas, Second Edition, City Guides booklet game package---Am I right?---No Disc 3?

How do I get past this installation pop-up?

I'm new to this website; but I did a forums search; and was unsuccessful in finding a thread.

Any help will be appreciated.

There is only one Original DVD in the Original Game.

Are you using a 'Backup" copy of the game?

It sounds like you have A downloaded (Pirate) game on your 'disk'. They usually don't have audio files to save space and make the downloads quicker. smile.gif

I ask because there is such a file on my Version 2 disk.

Drive(D):GTA_SA<audio<STREAM<AA

and before you might ask:

Reinstalling the game will restore the missing audio files.

GTANet is not a file sharing network. Please don’t ask for original game files. Reinstall the game.

This isn’t a file sharing site.

Sorry, we can’t give you original game files.

Note: Pirated games don’t usually have audio files.

Always play the game with the Original DVD in the Drive.

Thank you, lil weasel.

No, this DVD is not a copy, a back-up CD, nor a pirated or downloaded version of the game. I purchased this game, new, a few years ago when it was current from a brick-and-mortar retailer (I think it was Game Stop). I'm a 61 year old architect and I can afford to pay for my games.

This DVD ('disc') was packaged inside a booklet titled City Guides, included as part of the purchased, plastic wrapped, Second Edition sales package, which I still have. This DVD also includes the original GTA San Andreas graphic. And I've indicated that this game was successfully installed a few years ago.

I've found that the DVD file E:\audio\STREAMS\ now initiates a Windows pop-up that says: "E:\audio\streams is not accessible. This folder was moved or removed."

So I have two further questions:

1) Is it possible to install the game without the audio files?

2) While searching these forum threads for this problem, I stumbled across a number of references to corrupted DVDs of this Game Edition. Is it possible that the DVD has become corrupted after a few years in storage?

Any help will be appreciated.

If no scratchs or other obvious cleanable defects then, It's possible the laminate seperated (foil/plastic) or the foil rotted from age or storage conditions. (From being in the Video business we found it doesn't take much, temperature, etc.)

I think the quick fix is to ger a replacement disc. I got mine a few months ago from Amazon.com for 10,00$US. In my case the disc got a serious scratch.

Chances are that some other software is interfering with the installation. Do you have any virtual drives active? Softwares such as Alcohol 120%, Ultra ISO, Daemon Tools, etc.? If yes, then uninstalling these softwares should be the first thing to try.

If that doesn't work, then try installing the game on some other PC. Check if the installation goes fine on the other PC and report back.

Thank you, girishb

It will take some time for me to get to another computer and try an alternate install as you are suggesting. So I'm working with the assumption that what I have is a corrupted file sector on my originally good DVD.

As I said above, I'm in the process of reinstalling software and games from another, smaller hard drive. So I investigated the original, working, installed files on my older hard drive. There I found all the original \audio\STREAMS\ files that the installation process was seeking. About 3 Gig of files. smile.gif

After a bit of creative use and renaming, these files were accepted in the installation process using the "Browse" option. I now have a new, working installation of GTA San Andreas on the new hard drive.

But I still have a corrupted DVD. And one would assume that a game manufacturer, that charged me somewhere around $60 for this game when I bought it, would have a working system for replacement of corrupted disks. Shouldn't there be serial numbers or game codes or other methods for verification?

But thanks again for your help.

A while back I mentioned that I paid 50,00$ for my game when I bought it, and got laughed at by the kids on the forum. The kids now-a-daya seem to think that the 'new' price of 10,00$ is what it's worth.

The Disc itself is the key. Since the game only plays with the Disc in the Drive they avoided the need to use pass codes, which I like.
