trip
Sorry if this is a rehashed topic. Search isn't working and I couldn't find a topic. So...is anyone getting a Kinect? At first I wasn't excited, but after talking with a friend who has had one since release I'm starting to think it may be worth it. I may even get in my car and see if BestBuy has any available today. Any experiences? Any thoughts? Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/463016-ms-kinect/ Share on other sites
Reconite
You shouldn't let peer pressure influence you unless it has something you (yourself) actually want. Also; This look fun? Mati
Yeah. Looks really fun Honestly, no I think kinect is a sh*t idea. Why should lazy xbox gamers stand up and swing their arms like monkeys? Also; [/img]http://i53.tinypic.com/vctnw3.gif[/img] This look fun? I don't know what he's doing there...i've seen the actions from the manual which controls the game and i can tell you that is not one of them . There's not many games out for it at the moment, you've got your kiddy games, fitness type games and a few party games, not worth forking over the money for one yet imo. EmagmaLak
Im going to buy it, dont really want it though When it comes to new games and gaming products, i have this weird thing where i feel i need to buy it even if i dont really want it! Voodoo
If I wanted to jump around and flail my arms like a spastic, I wouldn't need to shell out an extra hundred and fifty to do it. As far as I'm concerned, it's just a ridiculous gimmick to help them sell more sh*t. Need some exercise? Go for a f*cking walk. trip
Well, I just got finished playing with my new kinect, and I must say it was down right hilarious and fun. Voodoo., I was in the same camp as yourself until I talked with my buddy who has one. I thought it was a pointless gimmick too. He is a hardcore gamer so I trust his word. He said it was strange how much you feel like you are in the game, and I must agree with him now after my first hour with it. Aside from the still shots it takes of you looking like a fool(i will upload some later), the funniest part for me was how much it exactly matches your movements. I had a beer on the coffee table next to me and I would take a sip after each game in kinect adventures. Just seeing my avatar bend, grab (fantom)beer, and take a sip was worth the $150 I wish I would have bought a few more games. I may remedy that tomorrow. @Reconite, wise words. For the record...I'm in my 40s and don't really have to contend with peer pressure. @Seddo, yes there isn't a big selection of games yet. EA active is one of the reasons I got it. It was either this or a wii fit, and since I have an xbox the kinect made sense. My wife likes exercise videos and has been wanting something like this to work with. Aside from EA active, she is looking forward to the dance one too. Voodoo
Just seeing my avatar bend, grab (fantom)beer, and take a sip was worth the $150 I wish I was as easily entertained as you, then. Even if I was so inclined, I'd probably rather just leave an orange peel out for a week and then chase the fruit flies around the room. trip
He is a hardcore gamer so I trust his word. Pffffffffft "Hardcore gamer" is so overused it's become completely redundant. I like to think of a hardcore gamer as someone who has a lot of years and commitment in. I call myself hardcore even though anyone here could most likely smoke me in any game. I'm hardcore because I started with pinball, grew up with video arcade games, watched every console come and go starting with pong. Like I said - I'm in my 40s and manage many hours of gaming every week. Even if I suck at 90% of today's games - I think the time and energy I put into my hobby is pretty hardcore. My hardcore gaming friend is only a handful of years younger than me, and trust me he is hardcore. pffffft Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/463016-ms-kinect/#findComment-1060202445 Share on other sites
Reconite
How are Pinball and Pong "hardcore" in the slightest? Old? Definitely. Classic? Maybe. Hardcore? Not quite. Reconite
Reconite, you must have scored high in your reading comprehension. I'm sorry that you have no understanding of what the word "hardcore" actually means in the gaming industry. Edit: My point was that you seemed to think that because you started with an old game that automatically makes you a "hardcore gamer". Being "hardcore" has nothing to do with how long you have been gaming. Rebel
If it ever drops in price to around £40-50 then yes I'd probably get it, especially if it had some real games that you could play with it. But until that day, if I want to actually see ''myself'' in silly moments while throwing my arms around and what not I'll stick to a Wii. Being "hardcore" has nothing to do with how long you have been gaming. Not trying to throw a spanner in the works or anything but, what the hell is a "hardcore gamer" then? tubbs51
oh brother.... the whats hardcore and whats not discussion... the guy has been playing video games since before most of us were born... and growing up with games and still being a dedicated gamer in his 40s is fairly hardcore... you dont have to stay up for 48 hours plus playing a video game to be considered hardcore... Gamers that are dedicated to said hobby for decades is hardcore considering what us as humans go through... like marriage, raising children, a fulltime job... and to be able to play games for decades is a difficult juggling act... and i give him props to still being a gamer at his age... there arent many gamers in or above their 40s... so lay off the guy cause everyone has their definition of "hardcore gaming".... and none are incorrect... On Topic: I think im gonna save up and get Kinect just cause it looks interesting and considering im one of the handful of people that dont have a Wii... @murdoc: nice changing sig Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/463016-ms-kinect/#findComment-1060202559 Share on other sites

cidamelo
Hi tripmills do you think Kinect is better than Wii? It was a brazilian who invented Kinect And I love pong, I play until today!! There's some old games who are really fun! I think a hardcore game is who has the videogame as a primordial hobbie, I consider myself between casual and hardcore! trip
@cidamelo, I don't own a wii, but I have logged a few hours. IMO kinect is better since it maps your actual body. It's fun not to have a controller in your hands, and it makes you use all of your body parts. @hardcore gamer bullsh*t, I'm not gonna get involved in that stupid nonsense. This is a kinect thread. I am no where near as hardcore as some people around here obviously Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/463016-ms-kinect/#findComment-1060202740 Share on other sites

Ari Gold
That's a fair point. But, you said yourself that the term hardcore is bestowed upon someone when they're considered good at a video game. So, say that you never play FIFA, yet your friend plays it all the time, and you decide to play a casual game against him and happen to beat him 5-0. By your logic, the casual dude who'd never played it before will all of a sudden be more hardcore than his friend? I mean, sure, skill level plays a part, but I think it's a combination of both time AND skill-level, not necessarily one or the other.
