An Idea I Have. DIFFERENT SERIES

Recommended Posts

Firstly, I'm not sure if I should post my idea here, given that this is specifically GTA.

My idea is a SEPARATE SERIES with it's OWN UNIVERSE. I just want to get the point across right now that this game, if made, would have a Universe separate from the Grand Theft Auto/Manhunt/Bully Universe and the Red Dead Universe.

My idea is for a sandbox game set during a zombie epidemic in the very near-future, in a parody world. The style is that of Red Dead Redemption in terms of gameplay, but it focuses A LOT on statistics and other stuff, and has a massive world to go around. Given how technology is advancing, I've taken back my earlier opinions about thinks like GTA: USA being unrealistic: they probably will be plausible within but a few years.

BASIC PLOT

I haven't worked out the idea for what caused this epidemic. The zombies are basically the Brooks variant (NOT the Romero), with some changes. I didn't want to do an epidemic coming out of nowhere, but my terrorist-plot-gone-wrong idea sounded too political. Maybe it was a cure for cancer or something, like in the movie version of I Am Legend.

The protagonist is a man, probably some factory worker, from Cadillac (Detroit). I've been making up the plot as I've been going along.

At this point, the US has retreated to the Rockies, Appalachians, and the Great Plains, leaving states behind. One of these states, Moingwena (East Michigan, Indiana, North Ohio) has seceded. The player's world is in Moingwena and Jollietlac (Ontario). This world is filled with abandoned cities, town, and wilderness, with survivor towns sprinkled around. The wilderness covers a lot of area, but the player can choose to stay around civilization. The focus is more on the world that the epidemic has created, not the epidemic itself.

STATISTICS

This game is LADEN with statistics like Hunger, Thirst, etc. Granted, I put these in my GTA: Stuartia idea, but I actually have a reason this time. My inspiration was the Zombie Survival Guide, and since much of that book is devoted to surviving and not just combat skills, Hunger and such are added to force to the player to think about how they will feed their character, not just mow down enemies.

I had a stumbling block when it came to zombie bites. I've decided that the player will have a typical Health Bar (NOT regeneration), and an Infection Bar. The latter has two statistics: Virus Strength and Time. If Time hits 100%, you die, and you remove the problem by reducing Virus Strength to 0%. You have to buy expensive medicines or brew them yourself to cure the disease.

On one final note, there is no Auto-Aim. I decided that it would be too easy if the shambling zombies could be mowed down fast with no effort. However, Dead Eye has been replaced with "Zone" (couldn't think of anything better to call it). There are several varieties. One of them lets you choose targets in slowed-down time and then fire, like Level 3 Dead Eye. The other gives you Auto-Aim, targeting the heads of zombies and the chests of humans.

WHAT CAN I DO AFTERWARDS?

Very late on, the player gets the ability to build their own survivor town in Canada. This is highly limited: you basically follow a pattern of choosing a building to build, either pouring money into it or playing the Construction mini-game, and recruiting people to join. There is also a limited to how large your town can be. However, this gives the player something else to do.

There are also lots of minigames, like in Red Dead Redemption. The Saloon minigames (in particular, Poker and Blackjack) are included, along with some new ones, and there are more practical pastimes, like zombie hunting (you can join the Military in an attack) and other time-wasting crap like that.

WHAT DOES THE WORLD LOOK LIKE?

There are two sides: Moingwena (America) and Jollietlac (Canada). There are three counties and three metropolises.

Jefferson County, Moingwena: The starting region. Large numbers of survivor towns to hang out in, and carved up by rivers and mountains. The east is a barren wasteland, though.

Cree County, Moingwena: Barren and depressing area. There are survivors, sure, but this county (cut in two by a river that runs to the Invisible Wall surrounding the world) is the least populated area. Several islands: one has zombies, the other has been reclaimed and is safe.

Braddock County, Jollietlac: Most of Canada. Stretches along the entire northern side of the map, and is cut by rivers. Many abandoned cities.

Hanover, Jollietlac: A parody of Windsor. The smallest city, but still large. A Canadian island is nearby.

Iroquois, Moingwena: A parody of Indianapolis. A large city in the southwest corner of the map. Heavily infested.

Cadllac, Moingwena: It used to be an urban hellhole. Now it's an urban hellhole full of zombies. Many gangs survived the epidemic, and have strongholds scattered around.

Between America and Canada is a parody of a Great Lake (I haven't decided which one). The water takes up a significant part of the map itself. There is ONE bridge connecting the two, and a heavily infested city is on the American side, so you will generally have to take an airplane (if you somehow find one) or seafaring vessel to the other side.

If I want to post it somewhere, I guess I could find a website directly related to Rockstar in general, and not just GTA.

BTW, I was hoping somebody could suggest a good name for it, using a Red Dead style (the first two words denote the series, the last is the particular game). I came up with Mort Terre: Promeneur, a French phrase (due to both of the states/provinces being former French territories). I realized, though, that it wouldn't do if set in anywhere that has not had a French history. Though you could follow the pattern, renaming it in different languages. Though that would confuse the hypothetical customers....

call the game "TurboProject" and all the spinoffs/DLCs/sequels can be called "TurboProject: Ballad of Jim" or something

call the protagonist Jericho Jetmir. He has to get to his friend/mother/daughter/army and he must get his pills for his disease/ADD/AIDS which comes into effect during gameplay.
