VincentPericant
firstly...hi! i've been stalking for a while. it's been great reading some of the better ideas. and it's been hilarious reading some terrible ideas. but now i've got the week off work, i'm still hungover and it's raining, i figured i'd finally sign up.. secondly i'll apologise if there has already been a topic on this before (i have done a search, but can't find anything relating to it specifically though) i've read a lot of arguments/debates on here over the months, mainly regarding realism/grit vs. fun ... IV vs. SA. now obviously each have their pros, and each have their cons. but i feel that rockstar decided with IV is to have this "standard" storyline of IV, then use the DLCs to add in different styles to make everyone happy. TLAD was EXTRA gritty (maybe making it a bit more 'realistic'?), and then TBOGT was over the top with it's hollywood plots and explosions etc.. okay, so there was no jet pack and the lark, but still...it was more daft. the thing i wasn't overly happy with was how short the DLC storylines were. the technical aspect of videogame engineering isn't my strongest field, but i would assume that the creation of the city as a whole (buildings...streets...AI...etc..) would be the most time consuming part of the production process. i would again assume that a rough story for the main game would have been written prior to building the city, then both tweaked afterwards so that it all falls in line together. what i'm basically getting at is surely with the time given...surely they can create longer stories for DLCs when all they have to do is work around a city that is already built? liberty city was a great city, and i wish they would have (and i think that they COULD have) milked the city a lot more to give us longer stories for the DLC games, and maybe giving themselves more satisfaction by making the most of the city they made. i REALLY hope (and i think that they will) make longer DLC games for V. IV and it's DLC follow ups had it pretty spot on in the terms of the order that they were released.. we were all new to (the new) liberty city with IV, so niko was the perfect character to start off with. fresh off the boat, and like us, didn't know the city at all. by the time TLAD and TBOGT came out, we already knew the map perfectly, just like johnny and luis would have done when we started playing as them. i like how their stories linked together now and again...but were far enough apart to have a completely different feel to them. i don't know how V will treat this...but for the realism argument, surely it's best to start off with a character that is completely new to the city...then the DLC characters know the map perfectly like we would do, by the time we get to use them. i think longer stories for the DLC in V would mean that they could push the release dates (of V then DLC1, and DLC2) further apart instead to keep players happy more often (though i'm sure they love to annoy people because it's creates more anticipation, and maybe people would get less bored if there were massive gaps), and STILL give the same amount of time to creating VI. they could probably get away with charging more for the DLCs if the content was longer too (i'd be happy to pay a bit more anyway). will V see rockstar use the same method of giving us 'grit' and 'fun' as they did with the IV DLCs? and will they be longer? either way...i think that we can all agree that the V version of TBOGT should have jet packs and flamethrowers Edited November 8, 2010 by VincentPericant Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/462716-gta-v-dlc/ Share on other sites

VincentPericant
Isn´t it a little bit too early to talk about GTA5 DLCs? it is and it isn't.. IV had missions where we saw johnny and luis, before we ever even knew that there would be DLC games featuring them both. so obviously the DLCs were planned before IV was even released. so maybe it's a good time to talk about what we want from the DLCs now, rather than when it's too late to have some sort of influence (if anything on here does at all)? yes it'd be too early to talk about characters and storylines in detail when we don't even know what the main game is going to be about.. but my aim of the post wasn't to get people to dream up different stories for the DLCs...(i'm the kind of person that will be happy with whatever i get from the next game(s))...i just want to see what people expect/want in terms of style and length for the next set of DLCs...do they want 3 different games that ALL pretty much offer the same amount of "grit" and "hollywood", or do they want one in the middle, and the other two at opposite extremes? that and just in case rockstar DO read this board, to make them aware i want LONGER GAMES!!! haha Edited November 8, 2010 by VincentPericant Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/462716-gta-v-dlc/#findComment-1060195644 Share on other sites

SirPsychoSexy
DLCs are just as important for this section as the main game. I'd say IV alone isn't really a complete game. I would like it if he DLCs for V are more well planned than they were for IV since there were some plotholes between IV and EfLC. Also Luises role in the Impossible Trinity seemed a bit awkward to me. I think that all R* had for the DLCs when IV came out was outlines, I think the scripts already should've been written. The effect of the Trinity was great, but it could have been even greater. As for milking LC, I'd say they did partially. Some areas were exploited extremely, Algonquin and Broker, Alderney came in the perfect amount I'd say while Bohan and Dukes were used very little. Next time I'd like to see better balance. I wouldn't like another DLC for IV since some parts of the city have been exploited enough and almost ruined other ones. As for longer storylines, I was really disappointed when I found out the DLCs were to be only a 3d of IV, but I'm not so sceptical towards it today, it was rather good, perhaps another ten missions wouldn't have hurt, some plotholes could've been fixed and the stories could've developed even more. @maxopower: I wouldn't be too sure about Agent coming out before V. Perhaps, perhaps not. Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/462716-gta-v-dlc/#findComment-1060195727 Share on other sites
