[GTA4] False Starts after Social Club Login.

1. I put the DVD in the tray.

2. I launch LaunchGTAIV.exe in C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto IV.

3. Social Club login displays.

4. I login and hit "Play".

5. The DVD Spools up.

6. The DVD stops spooling up. The game does not launch. No errors are displayed.

 

System:

1. Fresh install of Windows 7 64bit.

--All Motherboard (Chipset, Ethernet), GFX, SFX, drives up-to-date and installed.

2. Nvidia GTX 470

3. 6GB Ram

4. Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Rev. 1.0

 

Other:

-GTA4 worked perfectly on previous Windows7 installation (same hardware and software installed).

-No mods or modified files in the GTA4 directory (or elsewhere).

-GTA4 Version 1.0.7. (Do not have DLCs)

 

Any tips appreciated thanks.

The game was activated? Try setting some compatibility mode on the launcher.

Yep make sure that you

 

1) activated the game

2) installed the C++ redistributable.

Ahh C++ did the trick. I didn't get any prompts or installation(s) of it when installing GTA4. But manually finding & downloading it seems to have done the trick. Thanks to both of you, Sjaak & mkey.

The launcher usually throws a 2000 error when VC++ is concerned. And it's strange you got it working with downloaded vc package, the only one that ever worked for me was the package included on the game disk. I guess this goes on the GTAIV quirks list.
