Wolfenhoffen
With the Super Bowl just 3 months away, I was thinking it would be cool if GTA 5 was officially announced in a Super Bowl commercial. Granted it probably won't happen but I think it would be a pretty cool idea. Everyone would know about it instantly through just one commercial. Thoughts? Mokrie Dela
Dont the superbowl have a half time show? Imagine it being announced through that, loads of people march out and stage a mock gun fight/chase (that also will never happen haha) That would be cool though, word would leak around the world! The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing. Click here to view my Poetry

Millions of Americans willing to buy the game before it even comes out? Exactly, Americans. What about Australians, British ect. Even if it did happen, they wouldn't release the game at the super bowl. We are a years away from anything like that. Maybe a clue on the big screen, Like quick glimpse of the game and music? It will be a puzzle we'll have to solve together!

I'm quite sure even Europeans (including myself), Australians etc. would hear this later on. Not all people who bought IV watched E3 2006, I sure as hell didn't. I don't think this deserves its own topic though.
Tyler
It doesn't, but that's what happens when people get antsy and want their question to be in the spotlights. A supwerbowl announcement would work considering that GTA is an American Parody, so I see no reason why that shouldn't be announced at one of the most American get together meetings around. Seriously, that's doused in Irony and idiocy.

That would be truly epic, but I doubt the NFL would allow it because of its crime themed nature. The commercial thing would probably be a success though. I know R* has the money to buy a Super Bowl TV spot.
maxopower
Don't really like it. It would be kind of a sell out. Rockstar would lose alot of it's "sarcastic satire cred"....
Dnero
I'd rather have a global TV network shutdown then when it comes back up, the announcement.

nerner
Stupid idea Stupid idea? To reach an audience of 105 million people in just one commercial? Doesn't seem stupid to me. Super Bowl and gta have something in common? No. Why not World Cup then? Around 700 million watch it. A given television programme doesn't have to have anything whatsoever in common with objects which are advertised on it. Godaddy for example. I mean, what on Earth has web-hosting got to do with the Super Bowl? However they always pay ridiculous amounts for tiny adslots around the half-time show because they aren't stupid, they realise that many of the people who are watching the game won't care about budget web-hosting but with over 100million people watching they obviously bank on some people needing their service. Simple probability. So really your argument is terrible and doesn't really have a leg with which to stand on. And as for your point about the World Cup. That includes people from outside Rockstar Games' so called "Safe Zone" of countries to which it sells most games. 33million viewers in the UK and the USA makes the Super Bowl a much better ad prospect. Plus there is the fact that your figures are probably wrong. 715.1 million people - give or take, one in ten people alive at the time - watched the final. How accurate this figure is is open to debate when one considers the difficulties in gauging audiences in Africa and Asia, as well as those millions who watch the match in a communal setting such as a bar, or even at work or in a school. In all actuality that figure is probably an optimistic figure. And it is more likely to be at around 400million people. Also there were only 3 ad breaks shown in total by the two British broadcasters in the final itself. And only 3.3million people watched that channel (ITV) due to a cockup with advertising slots earlier in the tournament. So your impressionable audience is yet again sliced down by about 15million people, give or take. 35% of Americans watch the Super Bowl, 6% buy GTA. Even an overlap of 1% in those figures caused by advertising during the super bowl would represent 3million people buying GTA as a result of the advertising campaign. A great result if ever I have seen one. Edited November 6, 2010 by nerner
Kwandilibro
What's the Super Bowl? I'm guessing it's a ten-pin bowling event... how much coverage would that seriously have? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Bowl This means that on average, 80 to 90 million Americans are tuned into the Super Bowl at any given moment Don't tell me sh*t about it's Wikipedia. I don't think the World Cup would do too well, since, like it or not, R*'s primary audience is Americans. And a lot of Americans really just don't care about soccer. http://www.epltalk.com/2010-world-cup-fina...s-history-22078 The 2010 World Cup Final set a new record for the most watched soccer game in U.S. history Sunday when 24.3 million people watched the Spain versus Netherlands game on ABC and Univision, according to Nielsen. The Super Bowl, on the other hand, get's a good 100 million viewers in one night, with 106 million viewers. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/02/08/s...m_n_453503.html Anyway, the World Cup only comes every 4 years. 2014 my ass. As expected, it seems to me that a lot of non American members here are not in favor of the idea, which is exactly what I expected. Not saying that GTA being announced on Super Bowl Sunday is very likely, but from an advertising perspective (especially if the weather's bad in northeast and it's popular teams), it's a great idea. Super Bowl and gta have something in common? No. Why not World Cup then? Around 700 million watch it. 1. Most GTA fans are American, Americans are generally not that interested in football/soccer. 2. It's 3.5 years left till the next World Cup, so unless it's released fall 2014/2015, that's probably not a very good idea. I assume you mean the FIFA World Cup since it's the largest one in the world.
nerner
it's a great idea. Until you alienate all people who haven't watched the Super Bowl. So lets call that the entire rest of the world and save you the embarrassment.
Kwandilibro
it's a great idea. Until you alienate all people who haven't watched the Super Bowl. So lets call that the entire rest of the world and save you the embarrassment. Well if it was announced during the World Cup in 2014, not only would the wait ridiculous for those still interested, but it would alienate millions of Americans who really don't care much about soccer. AKA R*'s primary market. Either way, it's not like it would be the only showing of the commercial. You people act like the commercial will only ever be shown once. That's just not true. It's only the premier showing of the commercial. And to directly respond to what you said, from an advertising perspective, yes it is.
Bobby_Williams
dont be too sure that americans wont get the message, thousands of cameras will catch the gta v commercial and it will be posted on youtube and everywhere, and then some people will be excited and go spreading the word, plus the news might have high lights of the super bowl maybe. Also surely it would be even better to announce it during a television finale such as the M*A*S*H ending. Which is the most watched show of all time in the US. Surely that would also attract a more "suitable" audience for GTA as well?

Wenis IV
Don't really like it. It would be kind of a sell out. Rockstar would lose alot of it's "sarcastic satire cred".... That entirely depends on what the commercial would be like. Rockstar seems to love to make fun of America so what better way to do that then in front of the biggest television audience of the year. Also, Halo 3 had a commercial during the Super Bowl.
SilentSeas
Why announce it at the Superbowl? The whole event is so tacky and its not even real football Seriously though as maxopower said it would make R* look like sell outs and most of the world would miss out on gamings biggest announcement leaving people feeling alienated. A commercial on the other displaying some new footage would be fine providing the game has already been officially announced.

Magic_Al
A Super Bowl ad is insanely expensive. Any advertiser has to ask if this the best way to get bang for 2.6 million bucks. It's not just how many people are watching, but are the right people watching? GTA gets enough buzz and free media coverage without having to blow money on this. Morsaw
Maybe on the Rockstar Website or on Youtube or some big place, they should put superbowls date with a rockstar north underneath saying something about the date like: 2-6-11 be ready
