Guide to fix TEXP70 on intel + Tweaks.

Recommended Posts

Hello Fourmers

This is actually my first guide, so pardon me for any mistakes.

I got a couple of requests from Intel users for this..

This one is pretty simple, 'Installing the GTA IV Patch-7 on intel integrated cards'

I know that intel graphics suck, they are not capable of this that and on and on and on........

I know they suck, everybody does know that. But AAMOF i am an intel user and i am not alone here.

Therefore, DO NOT POST IRRITATING $h1T. This thread is solely dedicated to intel users.

+ I recommend to play this game on That fancy Ati thing. I personally prefer a Console.

We all know that patching the game on intel gives us the ultra famous 'TEXP70' error.

I am gonna explain here how to remove that error and run the game just fine on intel.

I had to install GTA IV on PC for some reasons but unfortunately i found that it didnt run as i thought it would.

So I came up with this........

We wont COMPLETELY install the patch, just the essential parts of it.

+ I am posting some tweaks for 'BEARABLE' Performance on Intel.

And trust me, you definitely will experience a smoother gameplay than before.

The process maybe lengthy but the effort is worth it.

So let it begin........ I'll try make it easy.

NoTE: Every following step is highly important, do NOT skip anything. I mean it

1. Installing a fresh copy + THE MOD ENABLER BY ARU

2. The Backup.

1. Installing a fresh copy + THE MOD ENABLER BY ARU.

Most of you intel guys might have installed the patch already and now you are getting TEXP70.

There is no fix to this. neither me nor rockstar can help you to fix it.

Therefore you need to install a FRESH COPY (reinstall WITHOUT patch).

IF you want to install the patch, then you'll have to install a fresh copy of the game first.

And yeah, for those who have modded the files alreardy, you too need to install a fresh copy.

Once done, install the mod enabler by aru. We need to edit some files in future so installing mod enabler is imoprtant.

.......................................................................

2. The Backup.

This is the most IMPORTANT step. This one's gotta be the most boooooring but as I already mentioned, it is very very important.

You'll have to create a seperate folder for this. +you'll have to make the EXACT tree structure of the game.

(i.e, if you are copying 'fonts.dat' file (which is in 'Grand Theft Auto IV\common\data') to backup folder, you'll have to exactly put it in

backup\common\data) this you are doing to avoid confusions in future.

lets begin, make a backup of the following files.

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\binkw32.dll

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\GameuxInstallHelper.dll

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\GTAIV.exe

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\GTAIV.exe.cat

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\GTAIV.exe.cdf

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\GTAIV.exe.cfg

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\GTAIVGDF.dll

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\lang.ini

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\LiveTokenHelper.dll

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\logo-paul.bmp

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\Paul.dll

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\common\data\fonts.dat

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\common\data\fonts_r.dat

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\common\data\frontend_menus.xml

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\common\data\frontend_pc.dat

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\common\data\WeaponInfo.xml

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\common\data\cdimages\script.img

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\common\data\cdimages\script_network.img

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\common\text\american.gxt

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\common\text\french.gxt

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\common\text\german.gxt

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\common\text\italian.gxt

x\Grand Theft Auto IV\common\text\spanish.gxt

Done, thats right. The backup is done. And remember, we did all this for a reason.

Every single file that you just copied is gonna be used later on.

Just keep those files in safe place.

.................................................................................

3. Downloading and Installing the 'Patch7'

The title explains everything. Simply download the 7th patch, nothing else but 7th patch.

And yeah, i forgot to say, any other patches are not supported (i.e 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc.....) only patch 7.

The size of patch is 104 mb. It wont take much time to download it.

Once done downloading, install the patch.

Now if you try to play the game, you'll get TEXP70. thats why we made a backup.

It dosent mean we'll uninstall the patch, we'll just remove the unnecssay files.

By installing the patch we get new SHADER files which are better than the previous ones.

And we'll aslo be able to disable shadows!! it is definitely a FPS boost.

We also get the latest TEXTURE files.

.................................................................................

4. Restoring.

Basically what we are doing now is a simple restoration of the files we just backed up.

Thats why i had asked to create a systematic backup.

Put the BACKUP files back in their exact location (replace the ones which patch installed). You know what to do.

And yeah, congratulations.. you can play the game now without TEXP70. But we are not done yet.

...................................................................................

If you want to go further, its your choice. The patching is technically done. But i suggest you to go for it.

5. Visual Settings

You already know about this. This one is for those who dont....

There is a file in game called 'visualsettings.dat' which controls the visual settings of the game, we just need

to tweak it a little for better FPS. lets go

First of, got to 'x\Grand Theft Auto IV\common\data' and open the visualsettings.dat file with a text editor (ex. notepad)

The first two line with values will be:

heightReflect.width 100.00 (change the value of 100 to 10)

heightReflect.height 220.00(change the value of 220 to 22)

now it should look something like this:

heightReflect.width 10.00

heightReflect.height 22.00

Now scroll down to: #Values for rain GPU particle effect

change the values of the following lines to '1'

rain.NumberParticles.ps3

rain.NumberParticles

Again scroll down to: # Lod distances for vehicles

change the values to '20' and '30', it should look like this:

car.lod.distance.high 20.00

car.lod.distance.low 30.00

Keep scrolling down untill you reach the following:

# Lod distances for peds

change the values to this:

ped.lod.distance.high 5.00

pedincar.lod.distance.high 3.00

And now the last and the most important, scroll down to this:

# Misc Values

Change the values of the following to '0'

misc.BloomIntensityClamp.HD

misc.BloomIntensityClamp.SD

misc.BloomIntensityClamp.SD.ps3

Now just save the file....

There you go, you successfully gained a lot of FPS.

basically you lowered the Bloom which really is a FPS killer.

Visualsettings is done!!

P.S: Dont edit the timecyc.dat file. The 'farclip' does nothing, it just creates a blanket over the textures.

actually, everything is present there, but you cant see it. Then why use it?????

......................................................................

6. Commandline

I've lately been messing with the commandline and i discovered a great thing about it.

You might already know this, the '-memrestrict' command works perfect with certain values, i'll explain.

Here is my commandline:

-width 512

-height 384

-frameLimit 1

-memrestrict 129402629

-minspecaudio

-noprecache

-noimposters

-availablevidmem 2.5

-renderquality 0

-shadowdensity 0

-texturequality 0

-viewdistance 0

-detailquality 0

Take a look at the screen resolution (-width 512 -height 384 ), i can barely read anything in game but it gives me good FPS though.

The main thing here is '-memrestrict 129402629' it tells the game to create a specific amount of textures. You can try your own values.

Just make sure that the value you aasigned is less than '300000000'(more textures) and more than '100000000'(less textures).

I actually found it in the readme file. The memrestric command basically tells the game to consume a certain amount of vram.

Now some of you might be using '-nomemrestrict' (it could be dangerous for even MONSTER Pc's). simply dont use, atlest not on intel.

+ dont use the '-safemode' switch, it keeps on resetting the game settings(brightness, saturation, controls, subtitles etc.)

With above commands, the shadows will be disabled (since we used '-shadowdensity 0')

The '-availablevidmem' determines the amount of vram. actually on intel, the ram and vram are the same thing.

Intel uses 1/4 of its RAM as the graphics memory. Therefore, on intel Graphics '-availablevidmem' really means a lot.

...............................................................

7. Intel Display Adapter Management Tool.

Google it and download it (1 mb approx), its free.

When downloading is done, run it as admin. What we doing now is changing the 'vertex processing mode' for gtaIV.exe

Run it, go to the 'vertex processing modes for specified executables' tab.

Click on 'Add all supported games' button.

Find 'gtaIV.exe, vertex processing Mode' in the list, then click on 'Change vertex processing mode'

It'll change it from 'Hardware' to 'software'

If the 'Dasplay Adapter Count' is '2', change the vertex processing of gtaIV.exe in both adapters.

When done, exit the program. It gives a serious FPS increase.

....................................................................

8. Xliveless

Download it, you can find the link for the latest version in Mkey82's signature.

Read the readme file and install it.

It has a build in ASI loader and it gives us the ability to download savegams for gta iv.

...................................................................

9. Play IT.!

Now we can finally play the game at good FPS.

Since we are playing the game at a very low res the ouline of the in-game objects appear broken.

pressing 'p' in game will fix it. + It gives a good look to the game.

And yeah, keep the camera on Niko's head, dont look forward.

After a massive fu%k*n headache... we finally did it.

You use the new launcher with the old game exe?

What FPS are you having normally as measured by fraps?

Are you sure availablevidmem changes anything when combined with memrestrict?

well, fraps shows an avg of 13 FPS, and yeah -memrestrict works perfect.. infact it gave me somethin like 5 extra FPS.

as far as i know, -availablevidmem literally works on INTEL.. thats cuz vram is actually RAM

I'm not questioning memrestrict, but availablevidmem as memrestrict logically supersedes it.

avialablevidmem actually allocates the amount of vram to the game, memrestrict on the other hand uses a certain amount

of vram.. the rest of vram is free and helps the game to spawn textures quickly..

Actually, it's quite strange the new commandlines and options they relate to would work. I mean, you have the old game exe, but maybe the commandlines were present from day one.

could be, but the removal of shadows and new features are certainly related to the 'SHADerS' folder.

  • 2 weeks later...
I did everything you asked and my game and did not open ... I think I spent money for nothing only to play online. But I know I'll have to play even offline.

Too bad.

I've never tried playing online LOL.. I'm wayyy tooo busy with offline stuff, i never ends...

Awesome game....

And BTW, i finally got a new PC, got rid of intel integrated graphis... BUT BELIEVE ME, i had more fun playing

it in slo-mo.. LOL

Why didnt your game open?? what does it say??

Do you use MagicIV?? you've patch the game files, then only you can edit'em..

Re-install the game and Patch the files, then follow the above instructions..

Also use xliveless..

Okay, First of all if you want to INSTALL any patches to GTAIV then you need the LATEST driver for your Intel GMA since the newest ones have fixed the error (TEX70). I tested it and it WORKS. If you want the best performance then install the latest driver and patch 1.0.4.0!
