Bring Back The Magic!

How can R* bring something back which is extremely dependent on preference that not everyone shares?

I can understand where people are coming from. I still get goosebumps thinking about the first time I played VC, but seriously this is nothing more than a "bring back the old days" thread.

If you want that "magic" feeling why not play one of the old GTAs? That's what I do when I'm feeling nostalgic. I fire up my PS2, and play one of the GTA III GTAs that I kept since new.

One of the reasons I love GTA IV is it's its own game. It doesn't try to be anything it isn't. I think the fact it isn't heavily based on any TV show, or movie in particular should be given as much praise as possible, because it shows R* sat down, and put alot of thought into it without relying on Hollywood, and TV like with the old GTAs.

IMHO R* are going on the right path. The GTA series is one of the best video game franchises ever made, and I've witnessed it grow since day one, but I'm really not a fan of the "what worked in the past will work now" attitude that's been present on here for the last couple of years.

I really hope R* don't give in, and revert to their old ways. That would disappoint me majorly. Personally I don't want R* to go back to the way they made GTA games 5+ years ago. Let the past be the past please.

San Andreas was always fun but it didn't have the feel

of Vice City.

I think it was a one off thing. But if R* can do it again, id love it

If R* can include all the fun activities of SA, with the graphics and physics of GTA 4 (improved), combined with an awesome atmosphere like in Vice City, then it will be the greatest GTA ever, no doubt.

you got it.

Although, I thought SA was a big pile of mush of cheats and mods.

It ruined the game for me, but we wanted to see what R* was capable of doing.

Who remembers SA-MP (San Andreas-Multilplayer). I crashed my computer playing that game!

The Notorious MOB
I see where your coming from man. I enjoyed the homage to the respective decades that Vice and San Andreas delivered. The eighties couldn't possibly be done any better than Vice and Vice City Stories. Same goes for San Andreas. But that's where my hope sort of gets lost. The Cultural spark of the eighties was great because of things like Scarface and Miami Vice. But what about nowadays? What great gangster films does the current decade even offer us? The only possibly direction for Rockstar to go is forward, or Seventies prior.

I'm inclined to agree with this. GTA IV had the best story of any GTA I've ever played and one of the best video game stories period in my view. I found GTA IV enjoyable because it had a lot of things in it that I could relate to like a cell phone, watchable T.V. and a dynamic internet system.. in essence it captured the noughties perfectly the way Vice City and San Andreas did with the 80s and early 90s. And when I first played GTA IV (and its episodes) I got the same feeling as when I first played Vice City and to a lesser extent San Andreas. In fact the HD graphics made the feeling more intense and enjoyable. So to cut a long story short.. The Spark is Still There.

Exactly. We're at a focal point for the GTA series, where the story will slowly start to lean less on Parody and Influence, and more towards originality and cinematic execution. Every GTA I play, I feel the magical essence, same goes for Red Dead Redemption and Manhunt. Rockstar, if anything, is the best at making their games work. For some reason you could think that GTAIV is possible, just like in the past how you could think that Manhunt is possible. It makes their games all the more immersive, and if anything, amazing.

if GTA V is like gta IV im not buying it.

the graphics sucked but made my computer run them as although they were actually good, there was no f*cking anitaliasing, the camera of the game made it f*cked up, the sh*t reflection on cars. f*ck, ENB series on full settings for san andreas would run better than GTA IV even thought the grpahics of enb are heavenly

Then it's either:

a. the anti-piracy triggers built into the game by R*

or

b. your computer is sh*t.

the graphics sucked

I resent that statement kind sir! Noted the graphics would've been better in 1080p but who cares 720p is just as good for me at least.

I agree that Vice City for me is something magical when I played for 2 years continously when I was 11-13. It was just something so awesome. For me IV was not the same BUT it still was a awesome game. Vice City just has so much memories and nostalgia value for me. Im sure younger IV players will have the same.

The 80s atmosphere, music, story and the protagonist is what makes GTA Vice City IMHO the best GTA to date.

This is the type of GTAFan that i don't like. The PC Port of GTA4 was a joke. I remember the best part of Vice City was I got even more replay out of it through mods and such. Well, you can forget that for GTA4. Sure, there are some mods for it but the mod community never really hit its stride due to the PC version being a crappy port.

The fan response? LULZ JUST BUY IT FOR PS3 DUUR!! It's this type of sh*t-eating GTAFan im beginning to despise.

"Just be grateful R* even released a game. Just buy it and don't question!"

Well, games and game systems are getting too expensive for a "STFU and just BUY THE GAME." Mentality that some people have on here. GTA4 was a very solid game technically, but if you compare it to SA or even VC there is an obvious attention to very small details that you would never find in GTA4, such as the sacehouses being dynamic instead of static by adding things like the boomshine barrells etc. With GTA4 they focused so much on the pretty graphics and physics they forgot to actually code an interesting game.

A lot of people would agree with you and I'm proud to say I'm one of them. It just makes me sad that I was born in 1984 so by the time I was 6 years old the 80's were already over sad.gif

It doesn't mean that R* has to optimize IV for people with bad computers. The modding community keeps the games alive, but it doesn't sell them.

And perhaps you didn't notice all the detail that was put into creating the environment. They asked some guy to make a model of the mascot of a toy store that you've never seen in the game. Just because you don't see them doesn't mean there are no small details.

@ Niko Vercetti

Add me to that aswell.

I personally think Vice City is the best GTA game around right now, without question. I had so, so many memorabale moments and I had just endless amounts of fun and enjoyment from playing that game. The 1980's soundtrack was all made up of very good songs that were so brilliantly put together, and it just added to the legendary stuff that VC was made of. The storyline just totally had me gripped and immersed until the very end. Even after the main storyline missions were completed, I gained a great deal of fun and joy in just cruising in a nice car around the streets of Vice City and admiring the beautiful scenery and atmosphere, or simply supervising my criminal empire/business interests as I collected my profits, performing stunts, or just straight up causing trouble and getting into gunfights with gang members, or looking for hidden packages, secrets and other stuff.

@ Miamivicecity

Yeah, sure enough if we love Vice City so much and have so much nostalgia for it, why dont us VC fanatics just dust off our now-very old PS2s to play Vice City again ? Well, all I can say is while that would be a very nice thought and certainly the most logical thing to do in this case, it is still not exactly the answer we want. As much as we love VC on the PS2 to the death, lets face it - for many of us, playing VC now after playing GTA 4 and other games on much more technologically advanced consoles like the PS3 and with HD graphics, would make the experience feel very dated and ancient right now. We would still enjoy it, but it would not feel as overwhelming and looking as stunning as it did when everyone first played VC. I think what we want here is a newer and different Vice City game using current-gen console tech and HD graphics, but with a very similar set of excellent qualities, attributes and features seen in the first Vice City game.

I'm pretty sure thats what the VC crowd are asking for.

Maybe it's about the atmosphere being killed once you get past Los Santos.

I couldn't agree more.

IV had more of what I loved about GTA III and added new features.

For me GTA III was the best.

It was dark, dirty and gritty.

Vice City was cool too, but it didn't have that nasty edge that III did.

For me, IV was the closest to that dirty, nasty feel that any GTA since III has been able to achieve.

Having said that, if Rockstar were to do a new Vice City, or even take one single city from San Andreas, like Los Santos, I'm sure they'd come up with something fantastic.

As long as it didn't get too wild with overly exaggerated characters and story lines like San Andreas had.

The 80's were just such a fun time in recent history. The music was phenomenal, the outfits and clothing were so unique, and not to mention the TV shows and fast cars. Vice City was so great because it was set in the 80's, but that being said if VC were set in another time period it might have been just as popular.

Add me to that aswell.

I agree, just imagine VC in the current GTA era with HD graphics totally redesigned. In my opinion that'd just be fantastic!

Damn, you just make some great points cookie.gif Anyways your right, I recently tried to play VC and I just couldn't get past the graphics as the current gen games spoiled me.
