Free Race and Cannonball Run

Recommended Posts

I have an okay knowledge of routes thru the city, but when I'm logging onto racing, and I get sent to someone's Free race or cannonball run, I just groan and log-down again. It's frustrating not knowing exactly when I'm supposed to be going, having to pause and set a waypoint, and then having the f*cking satnav take me on "the scenic route".

Does anyone have layouts of the checkpoints for these kind of races so I can scope em out in freemode?

Thanks

In addition to the Cannonball Runs, please see the link in my signature for the Free races.

I get a lot of people point out that these aren't the "best" routes to take apparently. Sometimes I agree, others not. Nevertheless, as the videos show, they are good enough to get you a win, which IMO is what matters.

Thanks Jimba, I'll have a look thru the vids.

GTAking, it's not so much that it's _hard_, it's just frustrating when you feel like you know the normal races well then get into a free race, or CBR and you're driving a freakin' Lokus and then end up going the wrong way because you still don't know where the f*cking check points are.

On non-map related comments - it also sucked the first time I was in a dead heat running to a car with another dude and I get in the driver's side and he got in the passenger side, and PUNCHED ME OUT and took the car! WTF.

There seems to be a lot of luck involved in who gets to the first car. And once someone's driving and you're not the chances of getting in the lead are zip.

If they were going to change the set up for GTA5 they should have all players start in cars.

Yeah, it's a good tip to always get in the passenger side of the car if there is anyone else near you - the passenger will always punch the driver out, never the other way around.

Some of the races have a possible fixed spawn point for a good car near the start - "Donut Dash" and "Take Off" are good examples.

Sometimes in some of the longer routes it is worth switching vehicles mid race if you see something faster. I remember in "Docking" some one rammed my car from behind into the the water at the first checkpoint. I had the last laugh though because as a result I found an NRG900 (that otherwise I would have probably missed), and overtook them all before the finish!

Actually it's possible to get the car even if the other guy gets in the passenger side. If you both get in at the same time, get right back out before he punches you out of the drivers seat. While he is shifting to the drivers seat, get back in. The result is that you will pull him out of the car and you can get in and drive away before he recovers. Works about 80% of the time.

Also it's too funny, lol.

Also if you happen to play on PC, and you do the Free Race, Saints and Sinners, you can drive to the dock near the spawn point and take the boat to Algonquin way faster than you can drive it. I have heard that the boat doesn't spawn when playing on console. I have never not seen it on PC though.

There are a lot of different ways to do those races, but usually the waypoints are not the fastest by far.
