matthew1g
I just managed to revive my pc and save my motherboard by replacing the bios chips.. however turns out my graphic card died. I need a cheapish replacement that will be on par with the 4870x2 I'm currently looking at the ATI 6870 and NVidia GTX470. Both are the same price(£199), but the nvidia card has more VRAM and seems to produce better FPS than its ati counterpart. I used to play games at 1080p at everything set on its highest setting. same goes for AA and AF. As for specs that matter: Q66/4gb/coolermaster silent M Pro 700W/gigabyte X38-ds4 opinions? yoječ
6870 and GTX470 are basically on par when it comes to performance, but Radeon has much worse OC. Also extra VRAM is something that might come in handy. I'd say GTX is a better option.
Ryan
I've heard bad things about the GTX 470 considering it's basically a reference GTX 480 only clocked down and with a bunch of the cores and other sh*t disabled. I for one wouldn't buy one. Personally, I'd go with two GTX 460's (768mb version). About $170 each and your getting better performance then a GTX 480. If I had to chose though, I'd probably take the HD 6870. It's a new card and I've heard there are still a few driver issues but it looks like a pretty nice card. The mobo is an X38 chipset which means it'll only do crossfire. And as yojo said, I've heard a lot of praise for the cards. 768MB of VRAM is pushing it at 1080p res.
