stargoat
Ok after doing very in-depth looking around the internet, I have exahusted all solutions that I can find. Today I went out and bought Windows 7 to replace my Windows Vista 32-Bit. I replaced it with Win 7 64-Bit. After installed GTA 4 I made sure it worked ok before updating. Launched using Rock Star and it started up just fine. But after updating to patch 1.0.7.0 it stopped working. What happens is in my task manganer the LaunchGTAIV.exe program that runs after you click GTA 4 it crashes. I have tryed loging in and not logging in, but it always seems to crash. Moral of story is my LaunchGTAIV.exe launches but after I hit play or play offline, my pointer goes to the disc thing and disc drive spins up. Then to suddenly just disapear off the taskmanager. Here is the steps I have taken to try and resolve this but no luck. Update GTA 4 Tryed running GTA4.exe and Rockstar.exe in Win XP Service Pack 2 - no luck Did clean install of GTA 4. (when installed new one, I made sure to run both rockstar and gta 4 setups as XP SP 2) This time ran game before update it ran fine. Updated Game and crashes the LaunchGTAIV.exe Installed C++ - no luck Installed .NET Framework 4 - no luck Tryed edditing the Regional Time Setting (which was correct anyways) - no luck I have tryed pretty much everything that I could find. I really just want to play GTA 4 again. Below is a copy of my computer specs. If anyone can help, please do. I am already not liking Win 7. ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 11/1/2010, 01:41:56 Machine name: USERNAME NOT REVEELED Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.100618-1621) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: System manufacturer System Model: System Product Name BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: Intel® Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz Memory: 4096MB RAM Available OS Memory: 4094MB RAM Page File: 1996MB used, 6191MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 11 DX Setup Parameters: Not found User DPI Setting: Using System DPI System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent) DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled DxDiag Version: 6.01.7600.16385 64bit Unicode ------------ DxDiag Notes ------------ Display Tab 1: No problems found. stargoat
Try updating the game manually Patch 7 That's what I did. Manual patch from same site. It seems to have problems after I patch.
mkey82
Ah, I thought you used the auto update. I guess you want to use MP, if not, you can try installing some older patch version. Do you have some disk imaging software installed?

Do you have some disk imaging software installed? Nope didn't use the auto update. As for as using some imaging software. It's clean install of Win 7, so don't think so. I am going to try using the 1.0.6.0 patch and see if that works.
mkey82
You can install 1.0.6.0 over 1.07.0 but you can't do the same with older patches. That is, you can install them, but you'll have issues.
stargoat
Well just tryed updating to 1.0.6.0 and still not working.
mkey82
This is probably a Securom issue, you can try reactivating the game, but you'll probably have to use a third party loader.

stargoat
nope, orignal game Well I have tryed everything. Guess going to call it quits now. I am tired of trying to figure this out, anyone comes up with something let me know. Remember has something to with the 1.0.6.0 patch. Works fine up untill that one, need to be using 1.0.7.0 for certain reason so can't use another older patch. mkey82
Try using an older original launcher with the patch 7, maybe that can take you in the wanted direction.

mkey82
Well, stargoat probably had some Securom issue that was relating to Windows 7 and he got "around" it only after installing WinXP. Have you managed to get the game running with some other patch applied? Do you have any disk imaging software installed? Have you made sure you have the VC++ library found on the game disk installed?
jennings
Yes before i managed to run the game no idea what the patch was but now i get the error message posted on every patch except 1,0,7,0 and installing GFWL caused that i now dont crash the game on 1,0,7,0 but will get mentioned error frist (the one which asks you to update XP to SP3)
stargoat
Well not working again. Kind of tired of trouble shooting this. Tempted to go back to Vista, never had any problems with vista.
mkey82
Have you installed anything new in the meantime? How many separate vc++ packages do you have installed?
windrider42
I have the exact same problem. Actually installed the game three months ago on my daughters laptop, and I actually thought it was v1.0.7 So then I decided to update hers today, and I get the login, I just click play(offline) and then nothing happens at all. I thought the Social club thing was gone, I personally would rather click skip logon, then have to click play offline, then click ok again, lol Win 7 Ultimate x64 Dual ATI radeon 5870 1gb 4 gb ram I thought there was a problem, so uninstalled, and reinstalled, had to do my activation again and still same issue. I give up, and just reinstalled it back to original... At least it does work fine on her laptop. Edited November 20, 2010 by windrider42
mkey82
You can try using xliveless for playing in offline mode.
windrider42
I thought of that but I would like to be able to play either offline or online. I finally got it working today. For me the problem was with GFWL... not sure if it ever installed correctly So today when trying to download the update, I would keep getting an error 0x80070002 So I went to C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Local\Microsoft\GFWLive and checked the Downloads Folder, copied the .msi files to Desktop I then ran them in Administrative command prompt, with the /passive install That worked perfectly. I then installed the 1.0.7 update again and it all worked perfectly Now can play either with my live sign in or offline. The bad thing is my game saves didn't save, even though I backed them up and copied them back again.
valo666
I also had a problem getting the game to start after manually installing the 1.0.7 patch. I ended up uninstalling the game and GFWL, and then I saw something on the Rockstar website about an updated version of GFWL. So I downloaded that and installed it before even reinstalling the game. Since GFWL was already installed, it just skipped over it while installing the game. Once the game finished installing, I started it up and let GFWL update it. After everything was finished updating, everything worked just fine. So for anyone having problems getting the game to start up after installing the 1.0.7 patch, I would suggest you remove GFWL and install a newer version. mkey82
The bad thing is my game saves didn't save, even though I backed them up and copied them back again. Try looking here http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=386144 It probably has something to do with the account. And if you used xliveless, it's possible the savegames will not load anymore in GFWL.

It was the savegame from my offline profile.I just copied them to a different folder then copied them back into the new profile. I didn't use xliveless ever. I will look at the post and perhaps try changing the code and see if that works. If not its not so bad to start over anyway. Thanks for the reply.
