coin-god
Stereograms A stereogram is an optical illusion of depth created from flat, two-dimensional image or images. Originally, stereogram referred to a pair of stereo images which could be viewed using a stereoscope. Traditional stereoscopic photography consists of creating a 3-D illusion starting from a pair of 2-D images. The easiest way to enhance depth perception in the brain is to provide the eyes of the viewer with two different images, representing two perspectives of the same object, with a minor deviation exactly equal to the perspectives that both eyes naturally receive in binocular vision. The parallel view method uses two images not more than 65mm between corresponding image points; this is the average distance between the two eyes. The viewer looks through the image while keeping the vision parallel; this can be difficult with normal vision since eye focus and binocular convergence normally work together. The cross-eyed view method uses the right and left images exchanged and views the images cross-eyed with the right eye viewing the left image and vice-versa. Prismatic, self masking glasses are now being used by cross-view advocates. These reduce the degree of convergence and allow large images to be displayed. Enough ba bla bla, let's go straight to the action. How does this work? 1- Look at the middle of both pictures and blur your view (if thats the correct english term; cross-eye?) with streght until you see 3 pictures. 2- Once you see 3 pictures, focus on the one in the middle (The Mix of both images) until is completly focused and clean. 3- You are now viewing a realistic 3D Image with deep. Animated example of what you should do: Enjoy... -------------- ---------------------

GTA3Rockstar
I remember the books you would stare at and try to see what 3D image is there. Kind of old, ain't it?

coin-god
My first Stereogram ever: Yep. Its my house. Don't look at it too close, because its big. Otter, That means you can't "feel" deepness too? (Curious to know) Edited November 1, 2010 by goin-god
Otter
That's correct, I've always had pretty sh*tty depth perception. The newer 3D movies work for me, however - Avatar in particular. What happens with stereograms, for me, is that my good eye is super dominant, and my brain tends to ignore info from the other eye. So, in simple terms, it's hard to 'focus' in on that middle image. Otter
I can't feel the deepness. At least, not without paying for it. Listen here. Try this out for me - I thought I'd whip this up to see if maybe I'm not just doing it right. Cross your eyes, and tell me what happens when you try to put the dot in the center of the star. Here's the opposite direction: Edited November 1, 2010 by Otter

Otter
In both? For me, the dot disappears in the first one, and the star disappears in the second.

Harrisboy
The pictures which contain the chrome effect are most impressive - especially the aeroplane engine. @Otter: I could see both dot and star in both images..

Tyler
Hey Otter, for me the star disappears on both, but then again, since I got glasses I can't do the Stereograms either. Damn my sun staring habits as a child!!
Freakorama
One I just made JUST then. Looks like the 360 is getting 3D afterall.
Ari Gold
I don't think I actually have the ability to cross my eyes, so a lot of this is difficult to the point where I can't actually do it. A few of goin-god's one I could do, but the latest few from Futurama_Freak, well, I just couldn't do at all. I'm happy with my HD-TV and the occasional movie where you have to wear 3D glasses, doesn't bother me, at all.
Freakorama
Protip: Sit further back for larger images.
coin-god
You can also try to use your thumb infront of your eyes, focus on it and slowly remove it from your sight to focus on the pics. And Futu, that one is great too.
Shaunr
anyone have any 3d glasses? those didn't work when i crossed my eyes but when i overlapped them and changed the channels the heli one worked great with my 3d glasses. (i have the amber/blue glasses) and if anyone has the blue/red which is more common try this one out:
coin-god
Yeah, you can do that too with the images. But well, it wasn't the purpose of this topic.
Function-X-
I can't do it, dammnit ! Does it matter if you wear glasses ? The images go too far from each other when i try to do this crosseye thing, And i can't connect them in one image...
Tyler
Does it matter if you wear glasses ? Just take them off, whenever you wear glasses the image can't be portrayed right. I have the same problem.
