Thanks. inactive
Wolf68k
Avira AntiVir Free for anti virus Spybot (old but still gets the job done and great for immunizing), SpywareBlaster (added immunizing), and MalwareBytes for spyware CCleaner for the registry and getting rid of the general system crap
TheGuyFromThere
Thanks Wolf, Also, forgot to add - I may look at overclocking this machine. Would that be sensible/even necessary, given the Rig's already performance? If so, what good overclocking tools would be best for doing this. Thanks. inactive
anus
Avira AntiVir Ad-Aware Spybot S&D (be sure to immunize system) UltimateDefrag CCleaner Opera (safer alternative to IE) ...and Windows Updates . Well whether it's sensible to overclock or not is up to you and how satisfied you are with the performance you're getting. If you aren't satisfied, overclocking is a good way to get free performance. For CPU overclocking, do it strictly through the BIOS. Programs are not reliable. For video card overclocking, use RivaTuner. Edited October 31, 2010 by Warlord. Der Computer sieht sehr gut aus, und zusätzlich bin ich sicher, dass es sehr gut sein wird. Excellent rig, mate, it should do Arma 2 justice, anyway . I'd recommend Auslogic's Disk Defrag tool as it's superior than the Windows Equivalent: http://www.auslogics.com/en/
TheGuyFromThere
Thanks all for the comments and links to tools. Vielen dank zum letztes Kommentar, elanman, fur den Deutsch, ganz nachdenklich von du. Will bookmark this topic for the PC's arrival in hopefully the next 2-3 weeks. Will make sure to rub it in when it does, with plenty of pics/vids Thanks inactive
yoječ
Well I'd build a different rig for that price, but anyway it's pretty good. What case did you choose? Good luck with your PC. Post some pics when it arrives Also it should be pointed out that this is no monster PC - it's just a ordinary high-end machine viometrix has a PC with two Xeons and three GTX480 - now that's a beast. GTA3Freak-2001
Well I am sure its a monster to Dom compared to some of his previous PC's I am assuming I mean the system in my signature to me was a monster PC simply because its the best specified system I've ever had built/bought! anus
Mate if you haven't finalised the order yet, I'd change the specs. You can get a much faster PC for a budget like that.
TheGuyFromThere
Freaky pretty much got the nail on the head there - as far as PCs go, this one is a NASA supercomputer compared to my former machines... Warlord, the order is finalised but not too late that I can't cancel. Baring in mind that number 1243 does incl. VAT - beforehand it was around 1000 or so.. what do you recommend changing for the better? inactive

Thanks for compiling that list - appreciate it. Comes to a total of 1158.43 incl VAT and EXCL postage, which for those products would probably total somewhere in the region of £100, so would still work out more expensive than having one built for me albeit slightly less in performance. Another thing - The PC I'm getting is i7 875K quad core - IE - 4x the normal processors, am I wrong? whereas, the one you link to is only a single core processor... so therefore less powerful, in total, than the one I've purchased Oh, and forgot to mention - the case is not important to me. As long as it provides good ventilation and holds my parts together, it could be made from old soggy cardboard for all I give a damn. Ryan
Here's a build I put together. CPU: Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz Quad Core - £244.99 Motherboard: Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 - £144.11 Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 480 1536MB GDDR5 - £340.74 Memory: Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz - £99.99 PSU: Corsair TX 750W Power Supply - £89.99 HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s - £72.99 ODD: LG GH22LS50 22x DVD±RW - £14.99 Case: Coolermaster CM-690 - £62.99 Now the CPU comes with a stock cooler and it's pretty sh*tty. It's alright if you're not going to be doing anything intensive with the PC. If you are, you should put an after market cooler on it. Here's a nice water cooling system that fits nicely in the CM-690. Will keep the CPU nice and cool. Cooler: CoolIt Eco A.L.C. 240mm Radiator CPU Watercooler - £119.98 Total: £1,190.78 (£1,013.43 ex VAT) Total (Without CPU Cooler): £1,070.80 (£911.32 ex VAT) Once hell of a machine there. Much better then the one you had picked out.
anus
This is what I recommend: Case: Coolermaster Elite 430 Case fans: 1x Sharkoon 140MM 4x 120MM PSU: FSP 700W 80 Plus Bronze Motherboard: Asus P6X58D Premium CPU: i7 930 CPU cooler: Noctua NH-U12P SE2 RAM: Kingston HyperX 6GB DDR3 1600 Video card: Sapphire HD5970 2GB HDD: WD Caviar Black 640GB SATAIII ODD: Samsung SH-S223 22x SATA Total including shipping and VAT: £1227.27 Extremely fast rig there. Much more value than the PC you were planning on getting.

Much better then the one you had picked out. Upgrading to this would add an extra £138 incl. VAT to my order - is the extra sum worth it? I can still upgrade my order without additional charges (probably why they make you wait so long in the initial period, so this would happen... cheeky sales technique that) @Warlord: Thanks also for the build proposition - but I'm looking to stick to Nvidia on the card for the Physx technology. edit hmmm, if I'm going to up the ante - may as well do it properly. What about ATI Radeon 5970 Direct X 11.. It appears to be £167 cheaper to take the 5970 with eyefinity... is that right?? according to pcspecialist.co.uk Would the 5970 be that much better than the GTX 480? Stupid question?? anus
Here is a review of a GTX480 which pits it against the 5970. Should give you a good idea about the performance of the 5970. If you can get a 5970 with Eyefinity for cheaper, go with it .

Actually looked up a few reviews last night and came to the conclusion to upgrade pretty much my whole system... Now, I have ordered; ATI 5970 i7 quad core 950 3.06ghz Asus P6X58D-E 6gb Kingston Hyper-X DDR3 2000mhz 150gb WD velociraptor SATA 3gb/s 16mb cache 10000rpm (I have another HD from an old machine I can utilise if needbe or I'll just buy another HD should/when that one becomes full Corsair 850W PSU CoolerMaster Elite 310 Blue Case Coolit Eco Advanced Liquid CPU Cooler All that for only £250 extra... TheGuyFromThere
Thereabouts, yea. But really, that's it maxed for now. For the next month, I'm going to be living off a princely diet of chickpeas and cous cous. inactive
anus
Haha, you know bro, you could spend less if it's taking that big a toll on your income . Seems like you're using PCSpecialist, so here's a build for £1,495 including VAT: Here is where I chose the parts from (any component I haven't mentioned, leave as is): Case: PCS Maelstrom T900 (I know you said that you're not worried about the case, but it's wise to go for a case with good ventilation) PSU: Corsair 650W PSU (TX650) (more than enough for the entire system) Motherboard: Asus P6X58D-E CPU: i7 950 RAM: 6GB Kingston Hyper-X T1 DDR3 2000 Video card: GTX480 (I know I recommended a 5970 before, but with the prices in that site, the 480 is a better option, can use the saved cash in a place where you'll get a bigger performance boost, like the below component) 1st HDD: OCZ Vertex II SATAII 120GB (much faster than the Velociraptor and has around the same amount of space) 2nd HDD: 1TB WD Caviar Black SATA 6Gbps (if you're not reusing your HDD from your current system) ODD: 24x Dual Layer DVD Writer
TheGuyFromThere
Thanks for the tip warlord, but truth be told, I'm pretty happy with the current setup... I'm sure I could tweak it here and there - but overall - I'm satisfied. What I'm going to do now, is just get the PC and then keep upgrading it month after month. I'll run a few hardcore games to see how the framerates are and depending on the games and their respective framerates will depend on what I upgrade. My ideal system is one that will run Flight Sim X on full spec at an acceptable 30fps. I think the current setup I have ordered, will do just that - or near max settings - just without the AA and AF. inactive
anus
With a rig like that I don't think even AA will be an issue . Yeah mate your system looks good, but I really recommend changing the Velociraptor to the Vertex II atleast. The speed difference is huge. Take a look at this review and see for yourself how much faster the Vertex is. The review doesn't even use the Vertex II drives (which are faster), and it still beats the Raptor. TheGuyFromThere
Hmmm.. I'm not going to change it now - but I'm going to look up a few reviews and should the system need updating, then I'll make that HD a priority. What sort of speed difference are we talking here, anyway? inactive
