Slingaa
So I'm thinking of getting a Samsung Galaxy S, but I'm not too sure as I've seen mixed reviews. I'm thinking about getting this tarrif. I have two questions - how many apps are there on the Android Market and what kind of apps are there? Secondly, is the Galaxy S any good? I'd like to hear a first-hand and unbiased opinion. Thanks. Arvis
One of the best choices from Android I believe, I haven't tried myself, but things I know I don't like are: -design -camera As for apps there should be quite enough on store
Slingaa
Thanks mate, yeah it does look like a bit of an iPhone clone. The camera looks pretty decent, I'm not gonna use it much anyway.
lordjubblydave
I have had a Galaxy S for about 2 months. The good stuff first. The screen is the most Vivid, bright and beautiful display i have ever seen on a phone. The storage is good with either 8 or 16 gig plus up to 32 via micro sd card. Call quality is superb, i have had no probs with dropped calls either. Battery life is good with the phone lasting easily over a day under heavy use WiFi, games, GPS etc. WiFi locks on flawlessly. Apps wise, you will have no problems running anything you can find in the app store. The bad. Samsung have f*cked up Android creating a lag ridden buggy phone that suffers frequent lock ups and force closes. The GPS is also pretty useless, last time i used it, i got directed 5 miles the wrong way. There are fixes for these Software issues. It is a shame that Samsung f*cked up what could have been an amazing device. Basically if you want a perfect phone out of the box the SGS is not for you. I have rooted mine installed custom roms and applied the fixes for the lag and i still find it lacking. So i am in the process of selling mine to get a HTC Desire. This all sounds quite negative, i actually do really like the device. It is just a shame Samsung f*cked up the OS and i cant be bothered to wait any longer for a decent rom to come out for it. From what i hear the Galaxy Tab is pretty much plagued by the same problems. If you really want a big screen, grab the desire hd although the battery life sucks on it. If not i would go for the bog standard desire. I hope this helps. Edited October 30, 2010 by lordjubblydave
Pico
Use a different launcher such as Launcher Pro or ADW.Launcher and you'll probably notice a good difference in smoothness of the home screen, and that may carry through out the phone since the Home app won't be eating up as many resources. The Galaxy S is a solid phone, check out the Android topic. Plenty of info there and you can feel free to ask questions in there as well.

ADW and no it does not improve the lag. The reason why the SGS lags is down to samsung messing with the android file system. NOT Touchwhizz although that does not help much either. Yes on paper The galaxy s is a good solid phone. But like i said it is seriously flawed due to bad software. I am speaking from the perspective of someone who actually owns a Galaxy S, infact im posting from it now.
Slingaa
Thanks for the feedback mate, just wondering how frequent are the crashes/freezes? I'm not fussed about the GPS, just so long as it doesn't crash all the time.

I'm not fussed about the GPS, just so long as it doesn't crash all the time. They are not all the time. But they are definately frequent enough to be irritating. There are fixes for the lag, but you have your phone rooted (jailbroken) Also Samsung have not released 2.2 officially yet. So maybe they will sort out the bugs themselves
